MONDAY, MONDAY,
OCTOBER 21
We have begun the holiest season of the year. Holy Week is a very special
experience. I invite each of you to fully participate in the Sacred Three
Days. These three days form a triptych beginning with Holy Thursday, the
Celebration of the Lord's Supper at 7:00 p.m. This Mass is a celebration of
the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the command that we are to serve
one another. There is time to spend with Jesus during the Exposition of the
Eucharist from after the 7:00 p.m. Mass until midnight.
The second part or day is Good Friday, the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord.
On Good Friday, we have two services beginning at noon with the Outdoor Stations of the
Cross and then the Celebration of the Passion at 7:00 p.m. with the veneration of the cross
and communion.

I came across this little story that I think fits into the Holy Week theme. It comes from the
website Simple Truths. The story is titled "The Power of Positive Doing." I hope you enjoy it.
Someone Who Cares
It was a busy morning when an elderly gentleman arrived to have stitches removed from his
thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment in thirty minutes. I took
his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone
would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy
with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. It was healed, so I talked to one of the
doctors and gathered the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

Barbara Brodeur, Nancy West, Phillip Lee, Lola Light
and Betty Dewan.
Note
This is our new, updated prayer request corner. If
you wish to add someone to the list, please contact Renate at the parish office. When that person recovers, please call again to remove their
name so that others can be put on the list.
While taking care of his thumb, I asked him why he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told
me that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I then inquired
as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim
of Alzheimer's disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be worried if he was a bit late. He
replied that she no longer knew who he was and had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't
know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I
still know who she is." I had to hold back tears as he left, and I thought, "That's the kind of
love I want in my life." True love is neither physical nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
The Power of Positive Doing: Action alleviates anxiety, and little steps can bring about big
changes. Time is your most precious asset, but you have to get started.
Just remember that Jesus is the one who knows us, loves us and takes care of us. Jesus
remembers us, no matter if we have forgotten who He is.
May your Holy Week be a powerful experience and a grace-filled time.
Thank you, Fr. Joe

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD • MARCH 29, 2015
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a change in the weekly parish bulletin beginning on April 11 and 12. J.S. Paluch Co., Inc. has
dropped us. They have been printing our bulletin each week for many years. The way they make their money is to sell ads that
appear on the back page of the bulletin. The monies for the ads go directly to J.S. Paluch. Apparently, they are not making
enough money, so they will stop printing our bulletin after Easter Sunday. If you are a current advertiser, please consider canceling your contract. We would be happy to accommodate you with an ad on our website. Just call the parish office and we will
work with you.
As of April 11 and 12, we will have a shorter, simpler form of the bulletin each weekend, and there will be a full version like the
one we have now on our website.
I’m sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but it’s out of my control.
Always in the Savior, Fr. Joe

ELECTRONIC GIVING AT ST. JOSEPH
AN UPDATE
As part of our new website that was deployed last year, an electronic giving portal is
located on the home page that allows parishioners to pay electronically by account debits or credit card. The link is:
http://saintjosephcc.com/portals/stjoseph-al/CMAdmin/Images/e-offertory.png
Some questions that have been asked are:
What are the advantages of Online Giving?
It makes it easy to fulfill stewardship commitments, even when you are unable to attend Church. You never have to bring cash or checks to Church. Giving electronically
also helps the Church save money and plan its budget!
How are my contributions automatically deducted from my account?
Once you complete the online registration form, the contribution amount you specify
will automatically be transferred from your bank account or credit card to the Church's
bank account.
When will my contribution be deducted from my account?
Your electronic contribution will be debited on the date you specify on the "My Gifts"
page of the Online Giving system.
How much does Online Giving cost?
It costs you absolutely nothing!
Questions?
Call the parish office and we will get answers for you.
