SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY - APRIL 12, 2015
Acts 4:32-35; Ps 118; 1 Jn 5:1-6
Gospel: Jn 20:19-31
Painting above and on cover: “Christ and the
Doubting Thomas” by Luca Signorelli (1477)
Jesus is risen, he appears to his disciples and gives them
a new command, “As the Father has sent me, so I send
you.” When they received the Holy Spirit, their lives were
transformed and they went on to proclaim the gospel. We
have been baptized and sealed with the Holy Spirit and
we are the ones Jesus speaks of when he said, “Blessed are
those who have not seen and have believed.” Sometimes
we doubt our faith, life in this world makes that happen,
but Jesus is always with us and gives us his peace. We
need only accept it. Let’s show our faith to others by
living a Christian life and share the good news, for we too
are his disciples.

Announcements
Saint of the Week:
Saint Bernadette Soubirous
• Divine Mercy service this
Sunday, April 12, starting
at 2 p.m. at the church.
Born: January 7, 1844
Died: April 16, 1879
Memorial: April 16
Canonized: December 8, 1933
Bernadette was the oldest of six children
and grew up very poor. On 11 February 1858, around the time
of her first Communion, she received a vision of the Virgin.
She received seventeen more in the next five months, and
was led to a spring of healing waters. She moved into a house
with the Sisters of Nevers at Lourdes where she lived, worked,
and learned to read and write. At age 22 they admitted
Bernadette into their order. Always sick herself, she died with
a prayer for Mary‘s aid. Since the appearances of Mary to
young Bernadette in 1858, more than 200 million people have
visited the shrine of Lourdes.

Pennies for Heaven
April 18 & 19 after all Masses, the St. Joseph Knights of Columbus will
be collecting donations to support seminarians.
Pennies for Heaven is an international fundraiser that helps
seminarians around the world.
In our community, the Diocese of Columbus Vocations Office uses
the Pennies for Heaven donations to fund various vocation programs.
These programs encourage young men who are considering entering the priesthood.
Such programs include staging Vocation Days at seminaries and preparing high-quality
informational videos. Last year, Knights of Columbus Councils in the State of Ohio raised
$103,000 through the Pennies for Heaven program, nearly half of which came from Knights
of Columbus councils in the Diocese of Columbus.

Love is Our Mission:
The Family Fully Alive
Called together from all over the world in faithful
celebration of the family—the sanctuary of love and life.
World Meeting of Families Congress: September 22-25, 2015
Papal Visit September: 26 & 27, 2015
All Love Bears Fruit ~ Not everyone is called to marriage. But every life is meant to be fertile.
Every life has the power and the need to nurture new life — if not through bearing and raising
children, then through other vital forms of self-giving, building and service. The Church is an
extended family of different vocations, each distinct but each needing and supporting the
others. Priesthood, religious life and the celibate lay vocation to enrich, and are enriched by,
the witness of the married state. The different ways of being chaste and celibate outside of
marriage are ways of donating one’s life to God’s service and the human community.
Did you know? Early registration pricing for the World Meeting of Families ends April 30! The
Basic Registration Package is the most affordable and is particularly suited to our local families
($125/adult; $95/child for a 4-day ticket until April 30) Register today at WorldMeeting2015.org.
Home Enthronement
For many of us it will be impossible to attend the World Meeting of
Families. Something we can do to support the movement and celebrate
the family is enthroning our homes to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. If you are
interested in learning more about this, please contact Sue or Mike Gill at
614-529-4108 or visit sacredheartcolumbus.org.

Weekly Scripture Challenge~ by Tim Rimmer
When Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you …
Receive the Holy Spirit.” What will happen to Peter? Until now in scripture,
Peter always seemed to stick his foot in his mouth; he’s like a bull in a china
shop. But now he truly understands Jesus is the Son of God. Peter will
become the “rock” of the Church. Challenge – how does Peter change? Start with Jn 22:1519, then note the Peter in Acts 1-11 and finally in his wisdom, 1, 2 Pt letters.
Feeding Hungry Kids in Plain City Do you shop at Kroger?
It is hard to believe, but we have children
in Plain City that go underfed or hungry
over the weekends. During the school week
their main meal is the lunch they receive
at school. We need your help in providing
them extra food for the weekend. Through
a program called Sufficient Grace,
parishioners are joining with others within
the community to collect non perishable
lunch foods and pack lunches for these
kids. Look for the drop boxes at the PAC
and church. They need these lunch box
items: Dole Fruit cups, Chef Boyardee
single meal microwaveable cups, Barilla
single meal Italian entrées, Campbell’s
Soup on the Go, single serving pretzel
packs, pudding cups, Jiff On the Go packs,
granola and protein bars such as Cliff bars.
Monetary donations are also accepted,
please contact the parish office for more
information.

April 18 from 9 a.m. - noon at Sts Simon
