salazarawards.ca GDC/BC and MET Fine Printers present THE GDC/BC SALAZAR STUDENT AWARDS 2015 Recognizing the work of up-and-coming design students in British Columbia HISTORY The GDC/BC Salazar Student Awards, established in 1985 by the British Columbia Mainland Chapter of The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, were created in honour of Enrique Salazar. Mr. Salazar was one of the founding members of the society and the national representative for the BC chapter for two years. He was a partner in Salazar Graphics, and taught graphic design at Capilano College until his death in June of 1985. MET Fine Printers is the founding sponsor of this event. AWARDS A cash prize of $500 along with a GDC/ BC Salazar Certificate will be awarded to one student from each category. Winners and Honourable Mentions will be recognized at the Salazar Awards Evening on May 13, 2015. They will also be featured in the Salazar Awards Show and will appear in GDC publications and the GDC newsletter which is distributed to design firms and advertising agencies nationally. CATEGORIES 1] Print Design 2] Interactive 3] Brand Identity 4] Video & Motion JUDGING A judging committee comprised of top professionals of GDC/BC will be reviewing and selecting the winners and honourable mentions. Judging will be based on the strategy and rationales of the pieces as well as the level of visual execution. ELIGIBILITY The competition is open to students who are enrolled in an academically recognized certificate, diploma or degree graphic design or advertising program in BC. Students can be at any stage of their program and must have a signed entry form from an instructor or program director stating that the applicant is enrolled in the named program. SUBMISSION Applicants may submit work in one or more categories, to a maximum of 4 entries in total. Each piece of work must be accompanied by a concise description of the problem solved and a rationale of the designer’s approach. Use one entry form for each piece – entry forms may be downloaded at salazarawards.ca. FORMATS FOR SUBMISSION Submissions must be cleanly mounted on matte black card stock either 12˝x 18˝ or 18˝x 24˝. Up to two boards may be submitted per entry (number them 1/2 and 2/2). Any web design components of Brand Identity submissions, and all Interactive and Video & Motion submissions must be printed screen captures. If a website URL is available, it should be provided and/or a CD or DVD of the video/ interactive piece.
