Principal's Message
We have had a very productive and busy few weeks at Beachmere State School. A true sense
of community is building and we want you to be part of everything we do at our school.
We hope all of our Beachmere mums, grandmothers and carers had a very Happy Mother’s
Day on Sunday and enjoyed their presents from our school P&C Mother’s Day stall. Thank
you to all the helpers that organised the stall. Thank you also to the Year 1 team for the
amazing Mother’s Day pampering last Friday.
Last week our whole school Cross Country event was a huge success with some
magic moments! It was amazing to see students of all ages ‘Soaring with Persistence’ as
they completed the course. Many parents, Teachers and Teacher Aides also joined in the
races to support students complete the course. There were some amazing performances.
Thank you for the huge parent support.
The Beachmere Community Garden project is taking shape thanks to a dedicated
army of local volunteers, Ms Mumford and our students. The sunflowers that students grew
from seed at the beginning of the year are in full bloom. They are a symbol of the great
teamwork between community and school in building the project. If you have any spare time
and are interested in gardening, come along to volunteer. Our first crop of greens in almost
ready for harvesting. There are many community groups interested in using Beachmere
produce to serve the local community. Watch this space. The excitement is building.
Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution will be held on Friday (15th May). It is an international
project to raise awareness of healthy eating habits for students in schools. Our Year 3
students have decided to take on the challenge of cooking a ‘Squash it Sandwich’. We have
many parent volunteers lending a hand, including some chefs in our community. The local
Beachmere IGA is sponsoring the event by providing all the ingredients for our students. The
local media will again be present at the school, so keep your eye on the local newspaper.
The latest news is that there is a Beachmere SS Breakfast Club revival. The Breakfast Club
will be trialled for five weeks this term on Wednesday mornings. The first Breakfast Club
will be on 27th May 2015. Our program is still in the planning stages. We are dependent on
local business sponsorship and volunteers to provide quality nutrition to our students before
school. This will help support student learning and wellbeing. If you have time available on
Wednesday mornings to support or breakfast donations, please contact the office. All help
will be gratefully received.
Our next Volunteer Induction session is on Thursday 18th June between 1.30-2.30pm in the
Library. We encourage you to come along to be part of our amazing volunteer team and give
something to our students and school. We need you!
For those of you who are not members of our Facebook site, please pop into the office to pick
up an application form. The Facebook community is a wealth of updated information about
the school. The feedback from members has all been positive. This is just another way which
we encourage positive communication with our school community. Our Twitter social media
account has also re-opened for brief updates. You can find us at: Beachmeress

Our very own Beachmere Playgroup will soon become a reality. We are currently in
the planning stages of creating this exciting programme for our community. Thank you to
Mrs Bailas and Mrs Gemmell for their research and effort in developing the playgroup. If you
are interested in helping or participating, please see Mrs Bailas. Stay tuned for more info.
Our hall is now being used on Tuesday evenings for Yoga. This means that our school hall is
serving the local community from Monday to Thursday every week. Please see the office for
more info.
Please remind your children of the importance of road safety to and from school. Please also
ensure that your child is safe when traveling to and from school on their bikes. Our school
adopt-a-cop Mr Ashley Freyling will be out to our school shortly to support students
in making safe choices when travelling to and from school. Children are to always use the
crossing, to cross James St and to be wearing helmets when riding bikes to ensure they are
safe.
This week NAPLAN has started. The importance of a good breakfast and a great night’s
sleep to ensure sustained concentration levels is vital. We want all our students to make the
best of their everyday learning. NAPLAN is one indicator from a range of assessments used
to capture each student’s learning attainment. Teachers are busily completing student Reports

The importance of reading with your child every day cannot be underestimated. At
Beachmere State School, we are committed to improving your child’s learning and research
has proven that children reading every day dramatically improves their learning outcomes
across all curriculum areas and improves individual learning confidence. Students take
readers home each day to read at home. So I encourage you to take some time out of your
busy family schedules to read with your child each and every day as part of the normal daily
routine.
We continue to focus on improving student attendance. Every Day counts and Every Day is a
Learning Day. Our whole school attendance for Term 2 is below 90%, which requires
improving. Students learn best when they attend school. Please support your child and our
school, by making every effort to get your child/ren to school ready for learning.
Kind regards,
Dan Ball.
Deputy Principal's Message
I hope all our mothers, grandmothers and aunties had a lovely Mother’s Day. Last week I
was invited, by Year 1 students, to attend a Mother’s Day Pampering afternoon. It was such a
nice way to finish off the week. I loved watching all the Year 1 students fussing other their
mums and grandmothers and letting them know how much they appreciate them. I especially
loved hearing stories of students going up to their friends and saying to them, “Your mum’s
not here so you can come and join me and we can both pamper my mum.” What amazing
mature little people we have at our school. The Cross Country was another fantastic event
which highlighted the amazing students that we have at Beachmere State School. Our
Peer Mediators were exceptional with how they encouraged the preps, Year 1 students and
Year 2 students around the course. It was fantastic to see our lower school involved in the
cross country for the very first time. I was so proud watching every preppie, Year 1 and Year
2 student run the entire course. Those parents who got involved in running with their child
made it even more memorable. It was an enjoyable way for our school to come together and
have a fun day, out of the classroom.
This term we received funding to run a sporting schools program during lunch breaks.
Students will be able to participate in a 45 minute session with specialist coaches to teach
students fundamental skills needed to play softball Oz Tag, Soccer and/or NRL. During Term
2, the program will run for 5 weeks, all of the sessions are FREE. If lots of people are
interested we will look at continuing the sporting schools program in Term 3.
This week’s focus Care for Learning: Every day is a learning day. come to school each day to
learn Care for Learning: I am organised and ready for learning.
Kind Regards
Anna Bailas

Thank you to everyone for your support of last weeks Mothers Day stall. We hope all the
lucky recipients loved the gifts they received! The students were wonderful and enjoyed
shopping for a special person in their life. Big thanks to the volunteers who manned the stall
and made it possible. Your support assists us to raise funds to undertake new projects and
improve our school.
We are still seeking recipes for input into our school’s recipe book. These can be family
favourites, kids recipes, grandmas specialty, etc. Maybe there is a story or photo that
accompanies your recipe? We would love to hear from you! Please send to
beachmeresspandc@outlook.com or hand into the school office.
Our next major upcoming fundraising event is the school disco. Keep the 25th June from 57pm free as this is one event you do not want to miss! More information will be available
soon. Check the notice board for updates. We are in need of volunteers for the night to help
this events success. If you can spare some time we also need assistance with setting up the
hall and other preparations. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Life Education Van is coming to Beachmere State School! Their moto is “Empowering
our children and young people to make safer and healthier choices through education”. This
is an amazing opportunity for your child to discuss health and safety that is relevant to their
lives.
Some information from Life Education The mobile classroom allows children to explore
creative and collaborative learning in a space that is entirely different from a traditional
classroom. There are no desks, pens or paper. Children are encouraged to participate and
learn through engaging education experiences, which we believe brings out the best in all
children. Specially trained educators present vital health and safety messaging through tactile
and multisensory activities. Each session is designed to intrigue and excite children of all
ages, which captures their imagination and has a lasting impact! Joined by Life Education’s
loveable mascot Healthy Harold our educators bring to life lessons that empower children to
make safer and healthier choices, now and in the future. In all our session we utilise video,
songs, characters and role play.
The Life Education Van has been offered to students at Beachmere State School at special
price of $7 per student, please pay this amount as soon as possible so that your child has the
opportunity to participate in this exciting educational experience. Look out for information on
the parent information session that will be available when the van comes.

Prep
We are very busy in Prep at the moment. We are practicing our sight words, identifying
sounds, shapes and parts of numbers. We ask that you please continue to work with your
children and their sight words and reading. We are becoming more and more confident in
identifying words and reading and are so eager to learn. We are also starting to make our
wind ornaments this week and so we ask you again to bring in many different types of
materials for us to use to make them. We look forward to sharing this creation with you!
Thank you for your continuing support and encouragement!
The Prep Team
Year 1
Thank you to all of those family members and friends that came to the Year 1’s Mother’s
Day pampering session on Friday afternoon. It was excellent to have so much support from
student parents to create such an enjoyable afternoon. Also, just a reminder to those students
who have not yet brought in an item of memorabilia that it is due this week. The item should
remind them of a significant event that has happened to them, thank you.
Year 2
This term for Science the students will make a toy that is used by a push or a pull motion.
Could you please collect any of the following materials that they could use for construction:
drinking straws, bamboo skewers, pop sticks, milk bottle tops with a hole in the centre,
ping-pong balls, and bubble-type wrapping, aluminium foil, paper plates, corks, beads, small
rectangular cardboard boxes, cardboard tubes, plastic containers, plastic or paper cups. We
will need the materials in two weeks (or before). Attendance is a priority as we lead up to
report time so please make sure your child comes to school to learn every day.
Year 3
This is a very exciting week for us in Year 3. First, we would have had our NAPLAN tests
on Tuesday and Wednesday and completing them on Thursday. We have done a lot of
preparation with the students and feel confident that all will go smoothly. Please make sure
that your child has had an adequate breakfast and is on time to school. Our tests have a very
strict time frame. Thanks in advance for your support.
Secondly, Friday is our 'squash it sandwich' day inspired by Jamie Oliver. This will be first
thing in the morning so that students can eat their
sandwich at first break. If your child's
permission form is not in, they may not participate, so please make sure this is completed and
handed in. We are looking forward to a lot of fun filled learning.
Year 4
This week the Year 3 students will sit NAPLAN testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday. Please ensure your child has had a healthy breakfast and is well rested for the day.
On Friday students will participate in the Jaimie Oliver sandwich making. We are sure
students will enjoy this experience.
Students are busying making their bags in Technology. Can you please discuss with your
child what materials they need and how they will be making their bags. These will be
completed in time for our parade performance.
In Geography, students are learning about Africa and South America. Student will be
completing their assessment in the next couple of weeks.
Year 5/6 & 6
The year 5/6 class have started working on Fibonacci numbers - these are proving interesting
while also being a challenge. The students are enjoying this. We are also starting to write our
multimodal text for English
Year 5 have NAPLAN this week - Good luck to all our Year 5s (and of course 3s).
Sport News
This year, Prep to Year 6 had the opportunity to run the cross country course. Due to the
weather event from last week we were required to change the course and distance at the last
minute. Thank you to all the staff for the hard work put in to have this event run smoothly,
making an enjoyable experience for all students. Student’s performances certainly
demonstrated the school’s moto To soar with persistence. Some students lost shoes but
continued on with determination, others assisted their peers in completing the event. On the
day you were all winners and should feel very proud of your achievements. Thank you to all
the parents that attended to support the runners, students leaders who assisted with stations
and support around the course, and marshalling by Liam and TJ, boys you did a fantastic
job! The following students received trophies, medals and certificates on parade today for
their achievements

District Rugby League – Redcliffe
Last term two students Cayse Munro and Max Tornai attended trials for the Caboolture
District Rugby League U11 Football Team. Both boys were chosen to play on the
Caboolture District Team where they attended extra training twice a week. Last week the
team played three games over two days at Redcliffe Rugby League Grounds. The team won
each game and both boys gained un-measureable experience by being a part of the District
Team. A huge congratulations must go out to both the boys for representing their school in
their sporting field and a huge thank you to parents for transporting the boys to training and
games. We hope that this inspires many more children in attending trials for their respective
sports.
Yours in sport – Emma Salter PE Teacher

Calling for Donations
We are desperate for NEWSPAPERS! This will help us to keep our passionfruit well
watered and to minimise weeds in our tunnel. We also need herbs and soil to create our
vertical herb garden. We would love it if you could please donate herb seedlings and soil or
alternatively to grow herb seedlings for us. Please see Mrs Mumford in the games room to
deliver donations and to talk to her if you are interested in volunteering in the garden.
We have started to see produce in our garden and the students have already devoured all the
beans (yum, yum!) We are excited to see what is ready next.
