Rationale:ThepurposeofHeritageClassic(HC)istoenableenthusiastsofsportscarsandsedans
fromtheearlyyearsoftheSCCAtoparticipateatSCCASoloeventswithcarsofsimilartechnol‐
ogy.Thisparticipationcanrangefromthosewantingtoseethesecarsinacompetitionsetting,
tothosejustwantingtodrivetheirclassiccaraggressively,tothoseseekingseriouscompeti‐
tion.ThecoreobjectiveistoprovideafunexperienceforHeritageClassiccarenthusiasts.
Background:Thesecarsfromthe1940’sthroughthe1970’sareanimportantpartofthehistoryof
notonlytheSCCA,butoftheAmericanautomotivesceneandareworthyofbeingapartofthe
SCCAtodaysothishistoryisnotforgotten.TheHeritageClassicclassisintendedtoencourage
theuseandenjoymentofthesecarsbytheirownersandothereventattendees. Assuch,the
rulesrepresentalevelofcarpreparationthatreflectsthehalcyoncompetitivedaysofthese
cars‐themid‐1970s. ThisrulesettimeframehasbeenpurposelyselectedtoattractProduc‐
tioncarsandSedansofthisera,ascurrentlynoothernationalorganizationoffersanoppor‐
tunityforthesecarstocompeteinthisconfigurationastypicallytherulesareeitherlimitedto
1972andearlierversionsORtheseheritagevehiclesmustcompeteagainstmoremoderntech‐
nologyvehicles.

HC.0.A.Intent
It isthe intent ofthese rules to allow modifications useful and necessary inthepreparation of a high
performance, production based non‐street‐driven vehicle. SCCA® will use the following guidelines in
thedeterminationofsuitabilityforclassificationintheHeritageClassicPreparedClass:
1.Carsclassifiedshallretaintheiroriginaldesign,structure,anddrivelayoutunlessotherwisespecified
intheserules.Ifindoubtaboutamodification,competitorsshouldask.Iftherulesdonotspecifically
authorizeamodification,itisnotpermitted.
2. Cars running in Heritage Classic (HC) Prepared Class musthavebeen series produced withnormal
roadtouringequipment,capableofbeinglicensedfornormalroaduseintheUnitedStates,andnor‐
mallysoldanddeliveredthroughthemanufacturer’sretailsalesoutletsintheUS.Carsnotspecifi‐
callylistedinHCPreparedClassclassintheHCAppendixmusthavebeenproducedinquantitiesof
atleast1000ina12‐monthperiodtobeeligible.
3. SCCA®mayalsoclasssuitablenon‐production,full‐bodied,full‐fendered,strictly‐specifiedcarsinto
this class. Production quantities, EPA approval, and DOT approval are not required. SCCA® may
choosenottoclassifyanysuchvehicleitdeemsunsuitablefortheHCPreparedClass.
4.Withinthescopeoftheserules,theterms“chassis”referstotheminimalconfigurationofacarnec‐
essarytocontainalloftherunninggear(drivetrain,suspension,&steering)andtoprovidesupport
forthebody.Forcarsof“frameless”construction,thechassisisthecentralcontiguousassemblyof
stressedpanelsandsubframeswhichformthebasicstructurenecessarytocontainalltherunning
gearofacar.
5. Specific allowances in the HC Appendix for a listed model supersede the limitations of these rules.
Minimumweightsshallbeestablishedmakingitpossibleforallcarstoreachminimumweightwith
reasonable modifications. These rules shall discourage the use of high technology/high cost equip‐
ment.Insomecases,thisisaccomplishedbyanoutrightbanontheequipment.Inothercases,thisis
accomplishedthroughtheadjustmentstominimumweight.SeeHC.17.11forweightadjustments.
HC.0.B.Specifications
TheSCCA®shallpublishspecificationsforeachcarspecificallyclassedintheAppendixoftheHeritage
Classic Prepared. These specifications will at a minimum specify each vehicle’s allowed minimum
weightandmaximumwheelsizes.
1.Equipmentand/orspecificationsmaybeexchangedbetweendifferentyearsandmodelsofavehicle
if:
a.theitemisstandard ontheyear/modelfromwhichitwastaken,and b.theyears/modelsarelistedonthesamelineoftheHCAppendix.Theupdated/backdatedpartor
the part to which it is to be attached may not be altered, modified, machined, or otherwise
changedtofacilitatetheupdating/backdatingallowanceunlessthemodificationisspecificallyal‐
lowedbytheserules.CarsnotlistedintheHCAppendixmaynotbeupdated/backdateduntilpub‐
lishedintheofficialSCCA®publicationand/oronwww.scca.com.
2. The SCCA® may recognize certain optional components. Some non‐original components may be
made mandatory to obtain an adjustment of competition potential. In all cases, these components
shallbelistedintheHCAppendix.Nopermittedoralternatecomponentormodificationshalladdi‐
tionallyperformaprohibitedfunction.
3.Requestsforalteration,modification,and/orsubstitutionofanyspecificationorcomponentshallbe
submittedforapproval.Theapprovalprocesswillinclude,butnotbelimitedto,ananalysisofcost,
availability,performanceimpact,ruleenforceability,andcompetitorinput.

ThemodificationsdefinedhereintheHCPreparedClassaretheonlyallowedmodifications.Theserules
standontheirown;theydonotbuilduponothercategoryrules.Modificationsshallnotbemadeunless
specificallyauthorizedherein.Nopermittedcomponent/modificationshalladditionallyperformaprohib‐
itedfunction.Iftherulesdonotspecificallyauthorizeamodification,itisnotpermitted.
A.Itisnotpermittedtomakeanychanges,alterations,ormodificationstoanycomponentproducedbythe
manufacturerunlessspecificallyauthorizedbytheserules.
B.Anyminormodification,intendedtoalloworfacilitateanyallowedmodification,ispermittedaslongas
it does not provide any intrinsic performance benefit in and of itself, and is not explicitly prohibited
elsewherewithintheserules.Thisruleisintendedtoallowminornotching,bending,clearancing,and
grinding;thedrillingofholes;affixing,relocating,orstrengtheningofbrackets;removalofsmallparts
andsimilaroperationsperformedinordertofacilitatetheinstallationofallowedpartsormodifications.
Competitors are strongly cautioned to make the minimum amount of modification required to affix a
given part and to not make tortured interpretationsofthis rule. (e.g., movingframe rails inboard, re‐
gardlessofthereason,isconsideredtobeatorturedinterpretation.)
HC.2BODYWORKANDSTRUCTURE
The purpose of the following rules is to maintain recognizable external features of the manufacturer’s
make and model, while providing the necessary safety and performance modifications. Restrictions re‐
gardingexternalbodyshapeandbellypansareaimedatpreventingattemptstoobtaingroundeffectsor
streamlining.
A.Theexternalshapeofthebodymayonlybechangedwherespecificallyauthorized.Standardwindow
openings,raingutters,orapprovedfacsimilesshallberetained.Allexternaltrimandmodelidentifica‐
tionmayberemoved.Grillesmayberemoved,modified,orsubstituted.
B.Chassis,frame,orsubframemaybereinforcedprovidedcomponentsandattachmentsarenotrelocated
exceptwherespecificallypermitted.Reinforcingdoesnotauthorizetheuseofunderbodyorbellypans
forward ofthe firewall oraftof thefront edge oftherear wheel opening. It is permittedto have jack
pointsrecessedintotherockerpanelsortohaveonetubepersideextendingdownwardthroughthe
bottomofthedoorprovidedtheydonotextendbeyondtheoverallwidthofthecarorinanunsafeor
dangerous manner. No part of the bodywork or chassis, to the rear of the front wheel opening, shall
touchthegroundwhenbothtiresonthesamesideofthecararedeflated.
C.Thechassis,frame,orsubframemaybenotchedorcutandbracketsmaybeaddedforthepurposeof
attachingalternatesuspensionordrivetraincomponentsexceptthatthefirewallmaynotbemodified
forengineblockorcylinderheadclearance.Holesmaybecuttoprovideclearanceforauthorizedsus‐
pension and drivetrain components through their entire range of travel. Additional structure may be
addedinordertoattachallowedcomponentstothechassis.
D.Replacementofanychassiscomponent(e.g.,subframe)initsentiretybyoneofalternateconstruction,
unlessspecificallypermitted,shallresultinthevehiclebeing“inexcess”oftheserulesandweightpen‐
altiesand/orcompetitiveadjustmentsmayapply.
E.Thefloorinthedriver/passengercompartmentmaybemodifiedforinstallationofsubframeconnect‐
ors,exhaustcomponents,andfordriveshaftclearance.Whenmodified,thedriver/passengercompart‐
mentmustremainseparatefromanyexhaustanddriveshaftcomponents.Themodifiedareamustbe
steeloraluminumandnomorethana4.0”(101.6mm)clearanceisallowedbetweenmodifiedfloorar‐
eaandexhaustormodifiedfloorareaanddriveshaftcomponents.
Trunkfloorsmaybemodified,removed,orreplaced.Ifreplaced,thetrunkfloormustbereplacedwith
metalpanelsofsimilarshapetotheoriginal.Removalofthetrunkfloorisallowableonlywhenametal
bulkheadseparatesthetrunkareafromthepassengercompartment.
F.Thefirewallmaybenotchedorrecessedforclearanceofexhaustheaders,electriclines,coolantlines,

fuel‐carryinglines,fuelpumps,intercoolingpiping,carburetors,airhorns,aircleaners,anddistributor.
Any material added to the firewall must be either steel or aluminum. This requires a sealed firewall
between engine and passenger compartment. This rule is for driver’s safety. Completely sealing all
firewallopeningsisstronglyencouraged,butnogapmaybelargerthan⅛inch(0.125”,3.2mm),except
arounddynamicdevicesextendingthroughthefirewall(e.g.,throttlelinkage,transmissionlinkage,or
othermechanicaldevices)andshouldbesealedtotheextentthatfunctioningofthedeviceisnotim‐
paired.Nomorethan8.0”(203.2mm)clearanceisallowedbetweenmodifiedfirewallareasandabove
listedcomponents. The engine block,cylinder head,turbochargers,and/or superchargers may not in‐
trudeintotheclearanceareasauthorizedherein.
G.Bumpercomponentsnotintegraltothebodyworkmaybemodified,substitutedwithareplicaofalter‐
natematerial,orremovedprovidedallprojectinghardwareisalsoremoved.Bumperbracketholesin
thebodyworkmaybecoveredprovidedsuchcoveringservesnootherpurpose.Bumperfasciasintegral
withthebodyworkmaybemodifiedorsubstitutedwithareplicaofalternatematerial.Internalbumper
components may be removed, replaced, or modified. Modified or replica bumpers/fascias must be of
similar shape as standard components, completely cover the area of the OE bumper/fascia, and not
confusetheidentityofthevehicle.
H. All interior trim, dash boards, gauges, floor covering, carpet, upholstery panels, and similar
non‐performancecomfortorconvenienceitemsmayberemovedorreplaced.
I.Thedriver’sseatmaybereplacedwithaseatofanyorigin.Allpassengerseatsmayberemovedorre‐
placedwithseatsofanyorigin.Thedriver’sseatmustremainonthestandardsideofthecarandmay
notcrossthecenterlineofthecar.Theseatmayberelocatedfore/aftbyupto12.0”(30.5cm)basedon
the centerline of the original front and rear mounting points. Rear bulkhead of the driver/passenger
compartmentmaynotberemovedtorelocatetheseatandthedriver’sseatmaynotextendrearward
pastthebulkhead.
J.Doorsmaybelightenedandmaybereplacedbyonesofalternatematerials.Doorsmaybepinned,but
notbolted,topreventtheiropeningincaseofanaccident.Quickreleasefasteners(e.g.,Dzusfasteners)
areallowed.Standarddoorhingesandlatchmechanismsmayberemoved,butthedoorsshallbecapa‐
bleofbeingopenedorremoved.Interiordoorpanelsmayberemovedorreplacedandthedoorwindow
slotsmaybecovered.Alternateattachmentdevicesmaybeaddedtohoodanddecklidtosupplement
orreplacethelatches.Hoodanddecklidhingesmayberemoved.
K.Windows
1. All windowsmay be replaced withpolycarbonatematerial. Thefront windshieldshall have a mini‐
mumthicknessof⅛inch(0.125”,3.16mm).Tintingoftheupperportionofthefrontwindshieldand
theentireportionofallotherwindowsisallowed.Allwindowreplacementsshallremaininthesame
positionintheframeoropeningastheoriginalglassitreplaces;rubbermoldingisoptional.
2.Allwindowchannelsandwindowwindingmechanismsmayberemoved.
3.Closedcars:Allsidewindowglassmayberemoved.Allrearhatchbacksanddecklidsshallbecom‐
pletelyclosed;pooralignmentofbodyworkoranyothermeanstopreventcompleteclosureisnot
permitted.
4.Opencars:Allwindowsandwindshields(includingwindshieldframes)mayberemoved.Theresult‐
ingwindowslotsmaybecovered.
5.Theinstallationofwindshieldsafetyclips,rearwindowsafetystraps,andwindshieldsafetystrapsis
permitted.
L.Thecontourofthefendermaybealtered(flared)fortireclearanceprovidedthemodificationsdonot
confusetheidentityofthecar.Onlystandardproductionventilationopeningsonthespecificrecognized
modelarepermitted.Tiresmayextendbeyondthebodywork.Fenderwheelopeningsmaybetrimmed
toprovidetireclearancethroughoutthefullrangeofsuspensiontravel,butnomorethanisnecessary
forthispurpose.

M.Innerfenderpanelsseparatingthewheelwellsfromtheenginecompartmentmaybealtered,replaced,
orremoved.Rearinnerfenderpanelsmaybealtered,replaced,orremovedprovidedtherearepanels
providing total separation between driver/passenger compartment and wheels. A shock/strut tower
integraltotheinnerfenderpanelisconsideredpartoftheinnerfenderpanelandisincludedinthisal‐
lowance.Thisdoesnotallowmodificationofframe/framestubsbeyondSectionHC.2.C.
N. Replacement, addition, or removal of accessories (gauges, switches, indicators, etc.), or other interior
modificationsfordriverconvenience,ortopermitinstallationofrequiredsafetyequipment,isauthor‐
izedprovidedsuchmodificationshavenoinfluencewhateveronthemechanicalperformanceofthecar.
Suchmodificationsdonotincludethesubstitutionorreplacementofanybodyworkorchassiscompo‐
nentexceptthosespecificallyauthorizedbytheserules.
O. The standard OE front spoiler or a non‐standard front spoiler may be used. If a non‐standard front
spoilerisuseditmustcomplywiththefollowingrequirements:Itshallnotprotrudebeyondtheoverall
outline of the car as viewed from above or aft of the forward‐most part of the front fender opening
(cutout) and shall not be mounted more than 4.0” (101.6 mm) above the horizontal centerline of the
frontwheelhubs.Thespoilershallnotcoverthenormalgrilleopeningatthefrontofthecar.Aninter‐
mediate mounting device may be used on cars whose front bodywork is above the 4.0” (101.6 mm)
minimum. Openings are permitted for the purpose of ducting air to the brakes, radiator, and/ or oil
cooler(s); equal openings may be placed in the standard lower front panel directly behind openings
placedinthespoiler.
P.Aspoilermaybeaddedtotherearofthecarprovideditcomplieswitheitherofthefollowing:
1.ItisaproductionrearspoilerwhichisstandardoroptionalequipmentofaUSmodelofthevehicleor
anexactreplicainanalternatematerial.
2. It isa non‐production rear spoiler which ismounted tothe rearportionof the rear hatch,deck,or
trunklid.Thespoilermayextendnomorethan10.0”(254.0mm)fromtheoriginalbodyworkinany
direction.Alternativelyinahatchback,thespoilermaybemountedtotherearhatchlidatornearthe
top of the hatch in such a configuration the spoiler may extend not more than 7½ inches (7.50”,
190.5mm)fromtheoriginalbodyworkinanydirection.Thespoilermaybenowiderthatthebody‐
work. The use of endplates is prohibited. Spoiler endplates are defined as any vertical (or
semi‐vertical)surfacesattachedinfrontofthespoilerwhichhavetheresultofcapturingandredis‐
tributingair(downforce)alongalloranyportionofthespoiler.Theangleofattackisfree.Thespoil‐
ermaynotfunctionasawing.
3.AllOErearwingsandrearspoilersmayberemoved.
4.VehiclesequippedwithanOErearwingmayaddarearspoileronlyiftheOEwingandwingattach‐
mentsarefirstremoved.
Q.Thefueltankmaybemodified,replaced,orrelocated.Ifthefueltankismodifiedorreplaced,thefol‐
lowingrestrictionsapply:
1.Nopartofthefueltankorfuelcellshallbecloserthan6.0”(152.4mm)tothegroundunlessenclosed
withinthebodyworkandmountedabovethefloorpan.Ametalbulkheadisrequiredthatprovides
total separation between the driver compartment and the compartment containing the fuel tank
and/orfiller/neck.Thisincludesfueltanksthatareflushmountedwithdrivercompartmentpanels
orotherwiseexposedtothedrivercompartment.Fuelfillerdoorsinthedrivercompartmentmustbe
positively fastened (non‐metallic fastenersare notallowed).For the purposesof these rules, afuel
tankconsistingofastructurecontainingafuelbladderisconsideredtobetheentirefuelcellinclud‐
ingthecontainingstructure.Thecontainingstructureofafuelcelldoesnotqualifyasabulkhead.A
separatemetalbulkheadmustisolatethefuelcellfromthepassengercompartment.
2.Internalbodypanelsmaybemodifiedtoaccommodatetheinstallationofthefueltankaslongassuch
modificationsservenootherpurpose.Intheeventinstallationincludesencroachmentintothedriv‐
er’scompartment,ametalbulkheadshallpreventexposureofthedrivertothefueltank.

3.Fueltankbreathersshallnotventintothedriver/passengercompartment.
R.Allmirrorsandtheirassociatedmountinghardwaremayberemovedorreplaced.
S.Thehood,hatchback,decklid,andfendersmaybelightenedorreplacedbyonesofalternatematerial
provided the shape is similar to the original and does not confuse the identity of the vehicle. Factory
bolt‐on fenders may be replaced in their entirety. Cars with non‐removable fenders may replace the
front fender panels going forward from the foremost door opening and the rear fender panels going
rearwardfromthe rearmost dooropening. Closedcars must not removestandardmaterialabovethe
horizontallineplacedatthelowestpointofthedriver’sdoorwindowopening,withtheexceptionthat
OEremovablepanels(e.g.,T‐tops,targatops,sunroofs)mayberemovedorreplacedwithpanelsofal‐
ternatematerialprovidedthatthedimensionsofanyreplacementpaneldonotvaryfromthoseofthe
originalbymorethan1.0”(25.4mm)inanydirection.Theapprovalofalternatebodypanelsdoesnot
authorizetheuseofunderbodyorbellypansforwardofthefirewalloraftofthefrontedgeoftherear
wheel opening. Ground effect tunnels and/or attempts to gain ground effects are also not authorized.
Anysuchelementsincorporatedintheotherwiseapprovedcomponentsmustberemovedordisabled.
Fronthoodsandenginecoversmaybeventedand/orlouvered.Thetotalareaforallvents/louversona
vehiclemaynotexceed500sq.in.(3225.8cm²),unlessprovidedasstandardequipment.Thetotalarea
ismeasuredasthetotalopenareaortheperimeterofthelouverswhenviewedfromabove. Thelocation,number,andshapeofvents/louversisunrestrictedprovidedtheyarefullycontainedon
allowed panels. For vehicles having original vents/louvers exceeding these dimensions, no further
openingsarepermitted.Louveropeningsmustfacerearwardandmaystandnohigherthan1.0”(25.4
mm)abovetheoriginalsurface.Noadditionalscoops,cowls,bulges,orductsarepermittedunlessspec‐
ifiedinHCAppendix.
T.Allheadlights,frontparkinglights,andfrontsignallightsmayberemoved.Headlightdoorsmaybere‐
moved, replaced, or modified. Any remaining openings shall be covered with a wire mesh screen or
paneloffiberglass,Plexiglas®,metal,orothernonflammablematerial.Ductsfromheadlights,headlight
doors,frontparkinglights,andfrontsignallightsmaybeusedforductingairtotheengine,frontbrakes,
and/oroilcooler(s).Anyopeningusedforductingmaynotberelocated.Theseductsmaypassthrough
interiorpanelsforthispurpose.Thecrosssectionareaofasingleductshallnotexceedthecrosssec‐
tionalareaoftheoriginal(single)headlight.
U. All side marker lights and tail/stop lights may be removed. If such an item is removed, the resultant
openingmustbecovered.
V.Sparewheelandtiremayberemoved.

springsmayberemoved.
3.Anyshockabsorbersmaybeused.Thetotalnumberofshockabsorbersinstalledshallnotexceedthe
numberoriginallyinstalledbythemanufacturer.
4.Attachmentpointsfortheshockabsorbersmaybechanged.Thereshallbeametalpanel,covering,or
bulkheadseparatingnon‐standardrearattachmentpointsfromthedriver.
5.Levershockabsorbersmaybemodifiedorentirelyeliminated.Whenlevershocksarereplacedwith
tubular shocks, the entire shock assembly may be removed and replaced with a control link and
bracketthatapproximatesthecontrolfunctionoftheoriginallevershock.
6. Rockerarmsandpush‐pullrodsmaybeused.Thereshallbeametalpanelorbulkheadseparating
non‐standardcomponentsfromthedriver.

1. Any springs or torsion bars can be used provided the quantity and type of these items remains as
standard.Springsandtorsionbarsmustbeinstalledinthestandardlocationusingthestandardsys‐
temofattachment.Theuseoftenderspringsispermittedprovidedthetenderspringsarecompletely
compressedwhenthecarisatstaticrideheight.Staticrideheightwillbedeterminedwiththedriver
seatedinthenormaldrivingposition.
2.Shockabsorbersareunrestrictedprovidedthequantityandtype(i.e.,tube,lever)oftheseitemsre‐
mainsasfittedstandard.Shockabsorbersmustbeinstalledinthestandardlocationusingthestand‐
ardsystemofattachment.Themountingoftheremotereservoirofaremotereservoirshockabsorb‐
erisunrestricted.Noshockabsorbercanbecapableofadjustmentbythedriverwhilethecarisin
motion,unlessfittedasstandard.
HC.6BRAKES

(SIRs)arenotrequired.DuetotheextentofmodificationspermittedonGT‐derivedcarsclassedwithin
the HC Prepared class, it is possible for a replica car to meet the legality requirements for the corre‐
sponding original model provided that the engine, track, and wheelbase remain within the allowed
specifications.InsuchacasethereplicaisconsideredlegalforPrepared,provideditcorrectlymeetsall
