Dear Pastor, Family, Friends, and Supporters:
I am a candidate for the 2015 Mother of the Year for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP. Each
year the North Carolina State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NC NAACP) crowns the NC NAACP Mother of the Year and honor women
from across the state for their service to the Association.
The North Carolina State NAACP Mother of the Year Contest is an important activity of the NC
NAACP. It is a fund-raising project initiated by the late Mrs. Benjamin Hooks in 1975. Its
purpose is to support the NC NAACP’s work for racial justice, equal opportunity, and social
change.
All funds raised through the Mother of the Year Contest supports the NC NAACP’s ongoing
work for equality. This past year, the work of the NC NAACP has had an impact on the state and
the nation. We led a diverse coalition in efforts to stand up against the extremist immoral and
unconstitutional laws and policies, including the attack on voting rights. Our mobilizing and
organizing efforts engaged tens of thousands of people in our struggle for justice and fairness at
Moral Monday events in Raleigh and across the state. Fundraising through the Mother of the
Year Contest helped to make this work possible.
We look forward to proceeds from this year’s Mother of the Year Contest to continue to support
our efforts to wage battles in the courts for voting rights and our state conference. The Mother
of the Year Contest makes a difference!
Please support my candidacy for our NAACP Mother of the Year. Please make your generous

2015 N. C. NAACP Mother of the Year. It will also be a contribution to the important
