THE POSITION
Riverside County's Children's Social Services Workers make a world of difference!
The DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SOCIAL SERVICES, is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of
CHILDREN'S SOCIAL SERVICES WORKER III / IV / V throughout Riverside County.
Children's Social Services Worker III
$43,471.79 - $68,466.74 Annually
Children's Social Services Worker IV
$44,845.42 - $70,690.88 Annually
Children's Social Services Worker V
$47,297.74 - $74,532.02 Annually

Children's Social Services Workers perform challenging assignments involving individual treatment and specialized
application of casework methods and skills. We are seeking professional, highly motivated and skilled social workers. We

difficult cases, and when needed, are given supervisory consultation on treatment plans. You may be expected to use a
high degree of perception and creativity, such as with a special problem case load. You may also be expected to work
independently.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Children's Social Services Worker III
• Carries a case load of the more difficult types of social service cases requiring a high degree of technical competence
where social or family problems, or environmental forces adversely affect family life; assesses client's problems and
develops treatment plans.
• Performs treatment plan casework with a high degree of independence.
• May act in a lead capacity for a small group of Social Service Workers or services employees, such as aides and
volunteers.
• Prepares and maintains case records; writes court and other types of reports and answers correspondence.
• Takes part in staff development programs to increase knowledge of the social work processes and augment personal
technical competence.
• Frequently conducts field visits, away from the home office, in order to carry out service plans, observe and assess
client needs, and provide information and social work services.
• Assesses client family environment in order to determine potential or imminent risk to the safety of children residing
in the household; when safety needs dictate, removes child from home and transports them, complying with all safety
regulations, including the use of age appropriate California safety mandated equipment, when assisting with initial
removal or facilitating a placement change.
• Maintains up-to-date electronic records of all aspects of client case management in a centralized database.
Children's Social Services Worker IV and V
• Makes case studies for the purpose of assessing problems and determining appropriate types and methods of
treatment; develops intensive long or short-term treatment plans to improve or restore individual or family functioning.
• Acts as a casework consultant to staff members without professional training.
• Functions at a highly skilled level in such areas as counseling, protective services, medical social work, family services,
community organization, and adoptive services.
• May provide therapeutic marital, family interrelationship, and adoptive parent counseling.
• Investigates and provides services to clients where their physical or emotional welfare is involved; works with cases
involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions
affecting a client's personality, family relationships, child or in-home care arrangements.
• Provides services and counseling in cases of desertion or impending loss of a spouse or caretaker.
• Interprets public social service rules, regulations, and policies to clients and the public.
• Maintains casework records, and prepares reports and correspondence.

client needs, and provide information and social work services.

RECRUITING GUIDELINES
Children's Social Services Worker III
OPTION I
Education: Possession of a Bachelor in Social Work degree from a recognized college.
OPTION II
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences,
social/human services, counseling or a closely related field, AND;
Experience: Two years of case planning/case management experience in a social services agency performing duties
equivalent to Riverside County's Social Services Worker I/II classifications.
OPTION III
Education: Possession of a Master's degree from a recognized college in social or behavioral sciences, social welfare,
social/human services, or a closely related field.
Children's Social Services Worker IV
OPTION I
Education: Possession of a Master of Social Work or Master of Social Welfare degree from a recognized school of social
work.
OPTION II
Education: Possession of a Master's degree in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or Counseling from a recognized
college which included 300 hours of field placement experience.
OPTION III
Education: Possession of Master's degree from a recognized college in social or behavioral sciences, social welfare,
social/human services, or a closely related field, AND;
Experience: One year of post Master's degree social case planning/case management experience (assessments and case
plans for abuse and neglect cases) in a public or private agency in a class equivalent to Riverside County's Children's
Social Services Worker III/IV or Social Services Worker III/IV.
OPTION IV
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences,
social/human services, counseling or a closely related field, AND;
Experience: Three years of experience equivalent to Riverside County's Children's Social Services Worker III or Social
Services Worker III classification in a Department of Public Social Services. The experience should include the following
duties as a primary portion of the assignment: assessments, case planning/case management, and court reports.
Children's Social Services Worker V
OPTION I
Education: Possession of a Master of Social Work or Master of Social Welfare degree from a recognized school of social
work, AND;
Experience: One year of post master's degree social case planning/case management experience (assessments and
case plans for abuse and neglect cases) in a public or private agency equivalent to Riverside Children's Social Service
Worker IV or Social Services Worker IV; or two years of experience in a Department of Public Social Services equivalent
to Riverside County's Children's Social Services Worker III or Social Services Worker III.
OPTION II
Education: Possession of a Master's degree from a recognized college in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or
Counseling from a recognized college which included 300 hours of field placement experience, AND;
Experience: One year of post master's degree social case planning/case management experience (assessments and
case plans for abuse and neglect cases) in a public or private agency equivalent to Children's Social Services Worker IV
or Social Services Worker IV; or two years of experience in a Department of Public Social Services equivalent to
Riverside County's Children's Social Services Worker III or Social Services Worker III.
OPTION III
Education: Possession of Master's degree from a recognized college in social or behavioral sciences, social welfare,
social/human services, or a closely related field, AND;
Experience: Two years of post-master’s degree in social case planning/case management experience (assessments and
case plans for abuse and neglect cases) in a public or private agency in a class equivalent to Riverside County's
Children's Social Services Worker IV or Social Services Worker IV; or three years of experience equivalent to a Riverside
County's Children's Social Services Worker III or Social Services Worker III in a Department of Public Social Service.
OPTION IV
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized college in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences,
social/human services, counseling or a closely related field, AND;
Experience: One year of experience equivalent to Riverside County's Children's Social Services Worker IV or Social
Services Worker IV classification in a Department of Public Social Services.
