SELLING POPCORN ONLINE
Sell popcorn to friends and family on-line.

To sell online or view online sales, each Scout will need to log in or create their own online account. It is
important that the Scout selects “Northern Lights Council” and then the correct District & Unit for his online
account, so the Scout along with your unit receives the credit. When creating your leader account, you will
need to enter the validation code of “popcorn”. Sales generated on-line qualify toward Scout rewards and
Scholarship credit. Your Unit receives 27% commission on these sales, which will be credited to your unit
account by March, 2015.
If your Scout(s) participated in online sales in 2013
SIGN IN WITH THE SAME LOG IN INFORMATION.
ALL SCOUTS who sold online in 2013 should verify that their account is linked to the
correct Council, District and Unit.
Information will be mailed to each “registered” Scout
regarding selling popcorn online.

2014 POPCORN SALE
CHECKLIST FOR UNIT’S POPCORN KERNEL / TEAM LEADER:
PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SALE:
1. Register your unit to sell popcorn for the 2014 Popcorn Sale at www.nlcbsa.org.
(You will need to know your district name, unit’s four digit number, what session(s) unit is selling,
and Unit Leader (Cubmaster/Scoutmaster) contact information to complete the registration.)
2. Attend Popcorn Training – Kickoff. Bring at least one other unit leader with you to the training.
a. Review Popcorn Paperwork so that you are familiar with the necessary forms that are
needed by the Council and when they are needed. (refer to pages 9-11 of this guide)
All forms are located on the website (www.nlcbsa.org). All forms are fill-able with
the Unit Master Record & Unit Order Settlement forms being in a calculating format.
b. Review the websites you will be accessing for the sale.
Northern Lights Council - www.nlcbsa.org
Trails End Popcorn System - www.sell.trails-end.com - Select the “Popcorn System”
button, you should have received email from Trails End with your user name and
password. If not, contact Gwen Allred at the Center for Scouting at (701) 499-0648..
Trails End Online Selling - www.sell.trails-end.com – Select “Sign In or Register”
button: Scouts sign in or create their online selling account as well as leaders create
their account to track unit’s online sales. (refer to page 2 of this guide)
3. Identify Unit’s “Goal” for the Popcorn Sale, based on the Program Planning.
4. Set Unit’s Popcorn Kickoff Date.
5. Obtain a list of registered Scouts from unit leader so you know the Scouts that will be selling along
with their contact information. Note: A Popcorn Order form and online selling instructions will be
mailed to all registered scouts.
6. Identify your Popcorn Team to assist you with the sale: to help unit achieve “Goal”, these individuals
will help keep the boy’s excited and on track with their individual goals, help collect and verify forms
and money, oversee Blitz Days, etc.
7. Determine “Turn in Date” for order forms & money based on when orders need to be submitted to
the Council and when sale ends. (Arrange to have popcorn team available to help at turn in date to
verify forms, money and prize selection.)
8. Contact District Popcorn Kernel to verify unit’s date, time & location for popcorn pick-up. (refer to
page 8 of this guide)

The 2014 Popcorn Patch is not included in your Unit’s Popcorn packet.
If you, as the Popcorn Kernel, would like a patch
please order one when you complete your Scout Rewards Order Form.

1. Hold Unit’s Popcorn Kickoff: Make it FUN & EXCITING!
a. Educate Scouts and parents on the Popcorn Sale:
How the sale benefits the Scout and the Unit.
Product line available, including military donations. Additional varieties available online,
pricing online is nationwide, that is why the difference in price.
Go over selling tips from the Popcorn Newsletter, encourage payment upfront.
Ways to Sell: Face to Face, Online selling, how they register for online selling, etc.
Prize Sheet: Explain the different reward levels and clarify that levels are not cumulative.
Bonus Section of Prize Sheet (Give examples of what the Scout will get if reaches different
levels. Ex. if Scout sells $1,800 total sales (online & take order), he would be eligible for the
$110 Gift Card as well as the $50 Bonus Gift Card.)
Fill it Up Forms - Trails End scholarship - Top Seller in District
Any Unit level prizes – ex. prize for top seller each week
b. Have Scouts sample the popcorn.
c. Hand out materials – Popcorn Order Forms & Money Envelopes. (Checks payable to the unit.)
2. Assist the Unit with their Popcorn Plan throughout the sale with Blitz Days, contests, etc.
3. Remind Scouts of Turn in Date at least one week prior to date & to print off their online sales report.
4. Hold Turn In Date – have team available to help verify.
5. Complete paperwork needed for the Council: (see list in box below)
Double check that you have all scouts’ orders, including online sales.
6. Confirm Order with Council – Complete online or call in (refer to page 6 of Guide)
7. Submit paperwork to Council – Email or mail (see list in box below)
8. Contact District Popcorn Kernel to schedule appointment for popcorn pick up. (refer to page 8 of Guide)
9. Pick up popcorn order and verify order prior to filling any scout orders.
10. Confirm popcorn payment for “Total Due to Council” has been submitted by treasurer.
11. Once you have been notified, arrange for pick up and distribution of Popcorn Prizes.

All Paperwork must be EMAILED OR MAILED to the Fargo Scout Office IMMEDIATELY after YOU
HAVE CONFIRMED YOUR ORDER with the Fargo office. You can confirm your order either by
SUBMITTING IT ONLINE via the POPCORN “ORDER CONFIRMATION FORM” located on our website,
www.nlcbsa.org OR CALLING the Fargo Center for Scouting Office at (701) 293-5011.
THE FOLLOWING PAPERWORK NEEDS to be emailed or mailed no matter what option you choose to
submit your order: Please print clearly on all information submitted, so that there is no question in regards to
unit, name, quantity, etc. MAKE SURE YOUR UNIT INFO IS ON ALL FORMS.

2014 SALE ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS
OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO TOTAL YOUR POPCORN ORDERS:
1. Use the Fill-able Forms available on our website, www.nlcbsa.org, and then CONFIRM YOUR ORDER
using option 1 or 2 below by deadline (October 23 - Session 1 & November 13 - Session 2) and email all
paperwork with district & unit # noted in subject line to gallred@nlcbsa.org or mail to Fargo Center For
Scouting Office, 4200 19 Ave. S, Fargo, ND 58103.
2. Use Trail’s End Online Popcorn System at http://scouting.trails-end.com/TESales/ to place popcorn order
from paper order form sales and then CONFIRM YOUR ORDER using option 1 or 2 below by deadline
and mail paperwork to Fargo Center For Scouting Office. Orders must be CONFIRMED so that we can
verify them against the online system, so you still need to print off the paperwork and submit to the Fargo
Center for Scouting office .
3. Fill out all forms by hand and then CONFIRM YOUR ORDER using option 1 or 2 below by deadline,
mail all paperwork to Fargo Center for Scouting Office. Please print all information clearly, especially
numbers, so there is no question on submitted information. MAKE SURE UNIT INFORMATION IS ON
ALL FORMS.
TWO OPTIONS TO CONFIRM YOUR ORDER:
1. Go to our website, www.nlcbsa.org & select the
“Popcorn Order Confirmation Form”.
(Available 24/7 from Oct. 21 to Oct. 23 - Session 1 & Nov. 11 to Nov. 13 - Session 2)
Enter your unit information followed by popcorn container quantities from your Unit
Order & Settlement Form, then save to shopping cart and complete the checkout
process once you have verified your quantities, you will receive an email confirming that
we received your order.
2. Call in your order to the Fargo office

“UNIT MASTER RECORD” FORM
Complete this form once you have collected
all Scout forms and verified totals for each
scout. (If selling both sessions, you will
complete this form for each session)
Note: please make sure your unit
information is on each page as well as
providing the Scout's first and last name.
(We need this to verify they are registered.)
Transfer "Grand Totals " of Unit Master forms
to the "Unit Order & Settlement" Form.
These forms are available in a fill-able calculating
format to help you track your scouts as well as
calculate your popcorn totals, so you don’t have to
manually calculate or create your own forms.
Located under “Popcorn Forms” on our website.
“UNIT ORDER & SETTLEMENT” FORM
Complete this form using the “Grand Totals” from
your “Unit Master Records” form. (If selling both
sessions, you will complete this form for each
session.) Make sure your district & unit # are
noted on the form.
Then confirm your order by EITHER submitting
online or calling your order into the Fargo Office,
no later than 1:00 PM on October 23 for session
1 & November 13 for session 2. This must be
done to confirm your order.

Then email or mail this form along with your Unit
Master Records. If you email, please save your
form with your district and unit # in the title as well

When submitting payment, submit for the “Total
Due Council”, payable to “Northern Lights Council”. Payment is due to Fargo office no later than
November 25th for session 1 & December 16th
for session 2. (Total due is total payment less unit
commission, a statement will be mailed to the popcorn kernel to give to treasurer to submit payment.)
Refer to Unit Master Record to determine
prize levels for each scout. (This would be
done after session 2 if selling both sessions
or if selling online.) Transfer prize info to
“Scout Rewards Order Form.”
Then email or mail, all completed pages of
Unit Master Record form, along with your
Unit Order & Settlement Form. If you email,
please save form with your district & unit # in
title as well as including it in the subject line
of your email.
“SCOUT REWARDS ORDER” FORM

Complete this form at the end of the sale; after
you have collected all Scout forms, verified totals
for each Scout (including online sales) and determined prize selection for each Scout. (If selling
both sessions or selling online, complete this
form after done with both sessions.)
Make sure to include the top salesman
information for your unit including total sold,
this includes any online sales. This is needed to
determine top seller for the district and the council.
Indicate total number of each reward needed and
leave blank if “zero”. Do not use tally marks.
NOTE: Rewards are not cumulative. Bonus
awards are in addition to the popcorn reward levels.
Ex. If Scout sells $1,800 in total sales (online &
take order), he would be eligible for the $110 Gift
Card as well as the $50 Bonus Gift Card.
Then either email or mail completed form. If you
email, please save form with your District # and
Unit # in the title as well as including it in the
subject line of your email.

FILL IT UP PROGRAM
$10.00 NLC SUMMER CAMP CERTIFICATES
Complete this form at the end of the sale.
(If selling both sessions or selling online,
complete this form after done with both
sessions.)
Collect all Scout forms, verify # of Fill It Up order
forms for each Scout and the name of the Scout
along with unit # are noted on each form.
Note: Scouts can earn a $10.00 Camp Certificate
for each Filled Up popcorn order form, (every 30
customers they sell to, this includes online sales,
qualifies them for 1 camp certificate.)
Then either email or mail this completed form along
with copies of the order forms (DO NOT SEND
ORIGINALS.)
Certificates will be mailed to the Unit Leader the first
part of 2015. The certificates can be used when
registering and paying for 2015 Summer Camps.

Trails End College Scholarship Form
Must submit to Northern Lights Council.
MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE COPIES OF TAKE
ORDER FORMS AND ONLINE SALES REPORTS
with SCOUT’S NAME ON EACH FORM.
Once the sale is completed, if the Scout qualifies for
the Trails End College Scholarship have the Scout
submit paperwork to the Fargo Center for Scouting.
If this is the first year that the Scout has sold over
$2500 in sales between online sales and face to
face sales. Submit the scholarship application.
If the Scout has qualified previously, submit sales
for current year. (This can be for any $ amount
sold, since they already qualified.)
NOTE: Participating Scouts, who have qualified previously,
are able to login to https://scholarship.trails-end.com to view
their current statement. Scouts have been notified separately
of their username and password by Trails End.
