Why choose a credit union over a bank?
How VSECU is redefining banking.
What is a Credit Union?
A credit union is a financial cooperative that is owned by its members – the people that
do their banking at the credit union. Unlike a bank, where outside stockholders reap the
profits, a credit union does not have outside stockholders to pay. Profits from a credit
union go back to the member owners in the form of higher saving rates, lower loan rates,
and more affordable services.
Look inside to see if joining our credit union is right for you.
How are Credit Unions
Different From Banks?
Why bank when
you can VSECU?
Credit unions are an alternative to traditional for profit banking institutions.
The main difference between a credit union and a bank is “form versus
function.” Both may function in the same way by providing deposit and loan
services but they are formed differently in many aspects.
VSECU has been a Vermont member owned
credit union since 1947. Over the years laws have
changed so that credit unions can serve a greater
number of people. This gives Vermonters more
options when choosing their financial institution.

Investment, Insurance &
Retirement Services
Since 2008, after the Great Recession, we’ve seen Vermonters pay down debt
and save more to protect their financial future. Today, our economy has
improved and consumer sentiment is more positive. We are finding that more
of our members are interested in learning how to help their money grow,
preserve their savings and provide protection for the future of their families.
If you want to explore working with a registered financial representative
who works for our credit union members, we’ll have an office in our new
St. Johnsbury branch to serve you. This service is perfect for people who are
interested in the following:
•Rolling over existing 401K’s
•Developing a retirement income plan
•Opening IRA accounts
•Funding for college education
•Investing in mutual funds & equities
•Protecting the value of your estate
•Purchasing life insurance & annuities
•Managing your investment portfolio
Securities sold, advisory services offered through CUNA Brokerage Services, Inc. (CBSI), member

institution. CBSI is a registered broker/dealer in all fifty states of the United States of America.

We’re Redefining Banking
The One Savings Account Every
Vermonter Should Have
We believe that every hard earned dollar
should be treated the same regardless of
who you are or how much money you have
in your savings account. We pay a premium
rate on the first $1,000 in your share
savings account to jumpstart your savings.
According to Bankrate¹ the national
average savings or passbook account
interest rate is 0.08% APY. Compare that
to earning 3.00% APY on your first $1,000
saved at VSECU! It makes sense for every
Vermonter to have a savings account
at VSECU. Even if you already have an
account elsewhere there’s no reason not
to open a savings account with us and let
your money earn more.
3.00% APY
on your savings
up to $1,000
The Best Credit Card for Vermont
The VERMONT Platinum Visa® credit card
is truly unique. It’s the only credit card
that offers a lower rate on Vermont based
purchases and a great standard rate when
you use it outside of Vermont.
•No Annual Fee.
