This modern and practical course has been designed to give you the best possible preparation for a
career in marketing. You will develop the practical and theoretical skills and understanding you need
to improve your employability, make you attract to some of the globe’s most sought after employers
and make an immediate impact in any organisation. Developed by professional marketers,

sectors, ensuring your skills are right up to date when you enter the jobs market. The flexible options
in the second and final years mean you will be able to tailor your learning to focus on areas in which
you would like to pursue a career. You will have the opportunity to study the most up-to-date
developments in marketing and will benefit from the option to engage in hands-on work experience.
Building on a firm grounding in marketing theory and practice, you will explore the subject from a
variety of perspectives, including digital as well as traditional forms of marketing and
communications to ensure you stand out in the jobs market. The course has also been designed to
support the entry requirements of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and to make it as easy as
possible to further your professional qualifications post-University.

Second half of year
During the second half of the year students not on the sandwich course will be able to choose from
the following opportunities: overseas study, internship, enterprise project or community project.
Alternatively students can carry on with the following taught modules:

Delivering Customer Value
Digital Entrepreneurship OR Exploring Strategy and Innovation
Students on the sandwich course will also complete these modules during the second half of the
year.

How will I learn?
The course incorporates a wide range of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops,
group projects, presentations, student-lead meetings, tutorials, one-to-one tutor support and
independent study. Project based learning forms an important element of your learning on this
course and the group activities will develop your ability to work in a team and enhance your
employability.
As well as an individual Business Research Project and the Leadership and Employability module in
the final year, this course allows you to study over four years to include a one year industry
placement. You will benefit from the latest industry tools and technologies, and will have access to
the wide array of resources available at Nottingham Business School.
How is my work assessed?
As well as attending lectures, seminars and workshops, you will also carry out:








hands-on computing
personal research and essay / report writing
case studies
group work
individual projects
role play
case studies
presentations.
You will typically be assessed through a combination of coursework, projects and examinations. The
course has been designed to help you develop a range of practical skills. You can find further details
about these skills in the 'how will I learn?' section above. Formative assessment will be provided by
your tutors for many practical elements of the course.
How do I find a placement?
If you are taking the four-year option, you will spend a year on a placement. This will enhance your
commercial awareness and your ability to link theory and practice in the final year of your studies.
Our marketing students have enjoyed work experience with such organisations as BMW, Disney,
Estee Lauder, Microsoft UK and Boots.
You will be encouraged to secure a placement as early as possible in your second year. Our
Placements and Employment Service are able to help. The course also includes a two-week industry
insight placement at the end of Year One.
What are my employability prospects?
Marketing graduates from Nottingham Business School have moved on to successful careers with
well-known organisations, including Avon, Big Communications, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, Puma
and the Stroke Association. Starting salaries for our marketing graduates range between £17,000 £22,000, covering a wide range of positions such as brand co-ordinator, market researcher, account
executive, web assistant, communications co-ordinator and global marketing assistant.
Entry requirements


280 UCAS Tariff points minimum achieved from three A-levels or from two A-levels and two ASlevels (excluding A-level General Studies)
GCSE Maths and English Language at minimum grade C.
You will also need to meet the English language requirements if you are an international and EU
student.
