PARADE MANUAL
University of the Pacific Homecoming Parade
Saturday, October 19th 2013 1:00 PM University Miracle Mile
This manual is published by the Associated Students of the University of the
Pacific (ASuop) to assist all parade participants, sponsors, workers, and
attendees in the understanding of the rules and regulations relating to
Homecoming.
The information listed below is subject to change. ASuop will continue to revise
this information as necessary in a timely manner to keep you informed.

HOMECOMING 2013 PARADE RULEBOOK
The following information is provided to assist you in participating in a safe and problem-free
parade. Your cooperation in following these guidelines is essential to the success of this year’s
Homecoming Parade. Any questions should be directed to Homecoming@pacific.edu
1. The parade begins at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
2. The parade route begins at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Harding Way and
ends at Pacific Ave and N. Central Ave. (see map)
3. Groups are expected to have floats, costumes, and materials ready by their designated
check-in time. Entrance into the check-in area is on the corner of Harding & Lincoln St
(see map). Only one person from your entry needs to check in your group at the
registration table. You will be directed where to go after you report to the registration
table.
4. You will be notified of your placement and registration time for the parade via email from
the Parade Committee by Friday, October 11, 2013.
5. Groups are encouraged to participate in the parade in floats, walking entries, or in cars.
6. Active registered student organizations, in good standing, are eligible for a $500 cash
prize for “Best Float”. University departments and non-University affiliated organizations
are not eligible for the cash prize.
7. ASuop will provide 10 trailers and $250 worth of supplies, free of charge, for registered
student organizations. Eligible purchases can be made through ASuop or via
reimbursement. Trailers will be available on a first come first serve basis.
8. Student groups will have access to ASuop-provided floats starting at 8am PST on
Monday, October 14, 2013 in the Athletics Parking Lot (Lot 3) near the Jeannette Powell
Art Center.
9. At the conclusion of the parade, floats that are eligible for the “Best Float” award will be
asked to return to Parking Lot 3, near Klein Family Field (see map), for judging.
Participants will be asked to exit their floats on N. Central Ave. and drivers are to return
the float to Parking Lot 3. A shuttle will be available to pick up participants at N. Central
Ave and return them to campus or the check-in area. Floats that are not participating in
the “Best Float” competition may return to the check-in area for tear down or be
excused.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL ENTRIES
1. Entries will be accepted in the order they are received. There will be a cap on the total
number of entries. Parade registration will open online on Wednesday, August 28th at
12am PST.
2. All entries must be identifiable (carry a banner, name visible on float or vehicle, etc.)
3. Absolutely nothing may be thrown or handed out by parade entries during the parade.
Participants are discouraged from using effects, materials, and giveaways that might
attract children to run towards your parade entry (i.e. bubbles, confetti, candy etc).
Units caught throwing anything from their entry will be removed and disqualified
from the parade and not permitted to enter 2014 Homecoming Activities.
4. Each entry will be checked for alcohol. There will be Stockton Police on hand to
check all entries. If groups are found with alcohol, they may face consequences from
the University and local law enforcement agencies. All entries found with alcohol will be
disqualified from the parade. University student organizations found with alcohol will be
disqualified from all other Homecoming competitions. Additional university sanctions
may apply based on severity of the incident.
5. Smoking is prohibited on the parade route and in the check-in area, before and during
the parade. Entries with participants smoking on the floats or in the check-in area may
be disqualified from the parade and/or future Homecoming activities.
6. Failure to report to the registration table at the specified time for check-in may result in
disqualification from the parade.
7. Any float, walking, or performance entry that fails to complete the parade route may be
disqualified from future Homecoming activities.
8. Drivers must have a clear view through the windows and clear access to the door.
9. Float dimension must NOT exceed 12’ wide x 45’ long x 15’ high. You must adhere to
the float and entry size requirements or you will not be allowed to participate in the
parade.
10. Any float or entry that does not meet safety requirements or is found unsafe by the
Parade Coordinator, Stockton Police, or Fire Department will not be permitted to
participate in the parade.
11. Floats must tie into the Homecoming 2013 Theme: “Lights, Camera, Action!” where
Pacific pride and spirit will be a part of movies and Hollywood spectacle.

12. Student organizations who wish to use the parade as a means of job recruitment,
political campaigning, or other 3rd party activities must register to participate in the
parade as a non-University entry and will not be eligible for the parade competition.
13. Any organization(s) caught vandalizing WILL BE DISQUALIFIED and WILL NOT
PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE OR OTHER HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES.
14. All drivers must submit a driver waiver to participate in the parade.
15. All riders (on floats or in cars) must submit a signed rider waiver.
If your entry does not meet the above requirements you will not be allowed to
participate in the Homecoming Parade. All entries are subject to approval by the
Director of Student Activities.

POLICE REGULATIONS FOR ALL FLOATS
1. Generators shall not be placed in enclosed spaces/vehicles. (Example: A hatchback vehicle with
the hatch open is not an approved location for a gas-powered generator). Generators must be
placed on the tow vehicle and must be capable of providing the needed electrical service. Each
generator must contain a minimum of two electrical outlets.
2. Generators must be uncovered and not placed within 3’ of combustible materials.
3. Wiring connections must be secure and safe. No open splices or frayed wiring.
4. All heat sources (lights, etc.) must be located away from combustible materials.
5. Safety chains must be affixed to the float.
6. Individuals riding on the float must be situated in a secure location.
7. No open flames are permitted on floats or towing vehicles.
