Requirements
Read this chapter very carefully to confirm yourself of having
all required tools, equipment and the right Melbus set and car
and radio configuration.
Your Volvo;

connection. If your radio (HU) is of the type HU-601, 603, 801,803, 450,
650, 850 and you have DVD-RTI (Volvo’s navigation unit) you can be sure,
your car and Radio match the requirement and your Volvo is ready for our
Melbus device!
Volvo Radio (HU) and navigation;
One of the above mentioned radios is required for installation. If you do have
a HU, and it’s not listed above, please contact us to get confirmation!
For the installation described in this manual, it is required that you
have DVD-RTI (Volvo’s navigation system based on DVD’s) in your car! In
general it can be stated that if you have a widescreen display on your
dashboard, you have the right version of the navigation system!
The set;
The set we delivered to you should contain the following articles;
-
Melbus device (iMIV or MII)
-
iPod cable (not for MII !)
-
Melbus cable

Needed tools and materials;
For installation, the following tools are needed;
- Torx bit
- Fishbone (or any tool which allows you to twist panels without damage,
even a plastic children’s spoon will do!)
- Power drill, with drill (preferably battery-based, if not, you might need a
power-cord!)*
* You will only need a power-drill in case you decide to put the iPod in the
mid-arm-wrest. If you want to control video sources, you need the iPod in
hand-reach! For audio-playback only, this is not needed.
Installation
This chapter describes the un-mounting and fitting of several
parts, the installation of the equipment and the mounting
back of all un-mounted parts.
Preparations;
Please use a dry and light work-environment. Preferably a garage.
Any removed parts should be cleanly stored, do not put items on the floor,
but preferably on a blanket or so.
Remove all contents from your trunk, back-seat and from the mid-armrest.
Test the car and HU (radio) on normal functionality before going further!
Put your lights in selection 0 preferably. (lights should be “off”)
Put the ignition in selection 0 and remove the key from the car.
Open the trunk and the rear-left door.

IF you want to put the iMIV on top of the RTI computer, put the double sided
tape or lock strip on top of the DVD Unit as displayed. Please note that the
iMIV should be placed between the 2 and 3 cm’s from the black plastic frontcover of the unit. Not further, not closer!
Otherwise you can put the iMIV in the open place where you removed the
cover at step 1.
IF YOU HAVE AN IMIV V1 or V2 (Black unit):
Step 10;
Connect the power-video cable to the green connection of the DVD-Unit (only
fit’s on one port) and connect the green RCA end of the cable to the iMIV.
Step 11;
Connect the iPod cable to the iPod port of the iMIV and the blue power
connection to the blue power connection on the iMIV.

Step 12;
Now you can connect the delivered Melbus cable to the port “Melbus” on the
iMIV and connect the other end to the DVD Unit, at the place where you
removed the original Melbus cable before.
Then connect the Melbus cable (the one you removed from the DVD unit
before), to the HU port on the iMIV.
IF YOU HAVE AN IMIV LE, LE+, and MII OR CLASSIC (Grey or silver
unit):
Step 10;
Connect the Power-video cable to the green connector at the DVD-UNIT.
(Will only fit into one port!) and connect the blue connector to the iMIV/MII.
Step 11;
Connect the supplied Melbus cable (8pin/13pin) to the DVD-Unit (13pin) and
to the iMIV/MII (8Pin).
In case the 13pin port is “taken” on the DVD-RTI unit, you need to remove
it. (it might stop the original Volvo TV tuner or CD-Changer from working).

And/or connect the Aux cabling as required.
CONTINUE HERE FOR ALL iMIV/MII MODELS!
Step 13;
Now you can place the DVD unit back in its old position, with the iMIV/MII
mounted on top of it OR with the cables behind the unit leading down to the
position where you put the iMIV/MII.
You can leave all wires in, but if you find it handy to remove them
temporarily for any reason, you are ok to do so, but place them back before
you continue to the next step.
Then connect all plugs back into the RTI Unit, preferably the little green
connector last!

MANUAL
You now go to the “TESTING” part of this manual, before
proceeding.
Your technical installation is “done” now, so first we test before
putting the iPod cable to the front of the car! If testing succeeded,
go to step 14.
Step 14;
Remove with a nice but tough pull the cover as shown here. You need to pull
it towards the drivers-seat, and when it’s “free”, you can pull it a bit up and
out..
FOR V70/XC70:
Step 15;
Pull the both rear-seats “up” by pulling the leaver for available for that. Then
remove the red locks by pushing them down a bit and then away from the
point they are locked in to. You might need a screwdriver to help yourself
here, costs “hands” here. After the red locks are free, you can remove the
seats.

Step 19;
Remove both grey mat-locks from floor-mat. You need to pull firmly by
putting your fingers under the rounded part of the lock. (do not pull on the
straight part, you might break things off then!).
FOR S60/S80:
Step 18:
Remove the rear seat by pulling it up slightly on both back-ends (left and
right) and then firmly pulling it up on the front.
Step 19:
Remove the carpet around the holders, or if you can, remove the seat
holders. (Generally one can’t remove them without breaking them, but you
can try!)

CONTINUE HERE FOR ALL CAR MODELS AGAIN:
Step 20;
Remove the door-trim/covers, pull it up gently at the arrows.
(this makes moving up the carpet 10x easier later!!)
Step 21:
Remove the Rubber mat(s) from the bottom of your mid-armrest. And
remove the covers (2 behind each other) of the rear-back of the midarmrest. (Might need to give it a little “whip” with a screwdriver to open it.
Careful!) If that is needed, put a little tape around your screwdriver or other
tool to prevent the cover from damaging!

Step 22;
Remove both Torx bolts from the bottom of the mid-armrest.
Now remove again the iPod or Aux cable from the iMIV and take it to
the front of the car. INSTALLATION OF THOSE CABLES goes from
front (armrest to back!)
Now you can drill a hole in the bottom of the mid-armrest. Please note that
later on the rubber mats should fit back into the wrest! .
Step 23;
If the whole is drilled in, and the round connector fits trough, you can lower
that part of the cable into the whole and try to pick it up with your hand, by
putting your hand into the previous removed back-covers from the mid-armwrest a step-20.
If you have the cable in your hand, slightly push it under the floor-mat
towards the back of the car.
You can help the cable with your hand a bit, and need to pick it up in the
back by putting your hand under the mat towards the mid-arm rest. This
might feel “heavy” since there’s tension on the mat. Take your time here,
rather push the cable back and forth a few times until you can crab
it, then cutting your hands here!!
Now you pull the cable out and lead it under the matt of the rear-passenger
seats to the left of the rear car (follow other cables !) to the iMIV and

Testing and finalizing
This chapter describes the only right way to test and finalize
the installation of the Melbus device. Please follow this test
carefully before finalizing your installation.
Step 1;
Please confirm yourselves once more of the correct installation of the cables.
Put your headlight-switch to 0 (if your lights are “off” then), otherwise put
them to 1 so you are not draining the battery.
Step 2;
Connect your iPod or other audio device to the iMIV. (either by using the iPod
cable, or connect RCA cable to the RCA ports on the iMIV or MII).
Step 3;
Switch ignition key to II and turn on the HU. Volume down please.
Step 4;
In case you connected an iPod:
Select with the source know, the source “SAT-1” or “MD-C” source.
(You did not have these sources before, the iMIV has activated them on your
HU.). The sticker on the iMIV will tell you which sources are activated by us!
Press play on your iPod. Now audio should be played through your speakers.
Did you connect another device trough the RCA connectors?
Select with the source knob the source “TV” or “CD-C”
Press the >>| button on the HU as often until you see TV 2 in the screen of
your HU.
Press play on the device you connected and you should hear audio trough
the HU.
Did you also connect the video-in? Then you will see the Video on your RTI
screen now as well.
