A campaign kickoff event has been scheduled for Thursday. “We’re encouraging all commercial agricultural producers in Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy Counties to take part in this free soil testing campaign to help the environment and their bottom lines,” said Ashley Gregory, AgriLife Extension assistant in Weslaco. “This will be the 14th year in a row we’re offering this service and it’s been hugely successful.” The campaign began Oct. 1 and runs through Feb. 28, she said. “The soil testing campaign first began here in 2001 and has Award Winning Builder Let’s Build Your (956) 992-9501 www.caminorealbuilders.com applause-worthy business notes TOUR OF GIVING Dream Home ceballosfuneralhome.com Kudos administered through the Texas Water Resource Institute.” The annual soil testing campaign has been instrumental in reducing excess nutrients from entering the Arroyo Colorado, and “it’s a service we hope to continue providing,” she said. A Fortune 500, multi-state healthcare organization will be offering free health services at Los Fresnos Elementary School on Oct. 18, according to a news release. Molina Healthcare of Texas is teaming up with local partners to hosting a “Tour of Giving” in an effort to give back to those in need. The event is free and open to the public, officials said. The event, to be held from 7 to 11 a.m., will include a 5-kilometer run and Zumba for participants, as well as giveaways, health information and Medicaid application assistance, the release said. Molina will distribute free tote bags and first aid kits to the first 100 attendees. Additionally, several community partners will be in attendance to provide free immunizations, visions screenings, diabetes/high blood pressure checks, school supplies and shoes, and even haircuts, among other services, the release said.
