We are very blessed at Trinity, to have had a very strong music program in the past and now to continue in this wonderful ministry of music for the future. Senior Choir meets on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 from September through May. They sing once or twice a month and join in with special music for the holidays. Maybe this year, YOU would like to be a part of this group. The choir is directed by Jo Rodenburg. She welcomes any and all enthusiastic singers! It is never too late to join. Senior Handbell Choir meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00- 8:30. They also ring about once a month and enjoy performing music throughout the year with some emphasis on the Christmas Holiday. We are thankful for the over 50 adults and teens that are dedicating their time and talents to teach the Gospel to the children of Trinity. Children ages 3 to Grade 6 can enroll at anytime. Registration is available online at tlcs.org (click on the Sunday School slide) as well as paper forms available outside the Children’s Ministries office. Visiting children are always welcome! Sunday School classes are from 9:30–10:30 each Sunday. Children in preschool and kindergarten meet in the Gym, while children in Grades 1–6 meet in the Music Room. We Need YOU! We are looking for a few more adult volunteers to dedicate their time and talents as workshop leaders. Our workshop leaders prepare only one lesson for the month and then teach it each week to a different group of children. Leaders can choose to teach for one month, two months, or every month. They can choose an area that reflects their talents, whether that’s crafts, storytelling, acting, cooking, music, computers, etc. This is a great chance for partners, groups, and individuals to dedicate four Sundays (or more) out of the year to sharing their time and talents with the children of Trinity! Depending on the number of men signed up for the league will determine the number of games we are expected to play. It is open to all members, their friends and guests who are 16 years of age or older. Teachers at a conference: On Friday October 10, the teaching ministers of Trinity will be participants at the Northern Illinois District Conference on the Northern Illinois University Campus in DeKalb, IL. On Saturday, October 11, Trinity Lutheran will compete with 15 area middle schools, public and parochial, in an academic bowl at Providence High School in New Lenox, Trinity will be sending a seventh (7 th) and an eighth (8th) grade team. This will be Trinity’s fifth (5th) year competing at Providence. Construction Building Update: The construction workers are continuing to make progress on the new addition. At the time of this being written the foundation is has been poured and the frame should be going up shortly. Market Day Pick Up: Saturday, October 25th. Pick up time 10-10:45 a.m. Coffee and… Our first coffee of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, at 1:30 in the afternoon in the School Library. Questions for the Christian Day School Board members or the principal are encouraged during this time. This activity allows parents the opportunity to learn about different facets of the school program through question and discussion – along with some munchies and a drink. Hot Lunch Position Available: Trinity is looking to hire an individual to work part time with our hot lunch coordinator to help prepare and serve lunches to our day school students. Trinity Celebrates Drug Free Week… October 27–31 is Red Ribbon Week for Trinity and many other schools in the nation. During this week, all students will be reminded of the danger drugs can do to God’s temple of the body. 5th and 6th graders will go to “FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN” On Friday, October 17th the students will travel to “Feed My Starving Children” in Aurora, IL to help pack meals that will be used to feed God’s Children in need all around the world. We pray that God blesses this wonderful service opportunity for our students. Quarter Ends… The first quarter of the 2014 – 2015 school comes to an end on Tuesday, October 28, for Trinity’s students. The goal of this activity is to demonstrate Christian friendship to a family struggling with medical and financial needs by offering them gifts of love through contributions and donations. Time to sign up for a table at the Sixth Annual Trinity Christmas Expo. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, November 29th from 10am until 3pm. There will also be a vendor raffle and a 50/50 raffle, with the proceeds from these going to a designated ministry of Trinity as yet to be determined. As usual, the tables are open to Trinity members first who have home-based businesses (no store front), or specific crafts. Coin and Collectible Show Bill Birk, President and Judy Green, Secretary of the Oak Forest Numismatic Society invite the members and friends of Trinity to attend the OFNS Coin and Collectible Show on Saturday, October 11, from 10am until 3pm in the gymnasium. This is a great way to meet people and be a friendly smile to all that enter to hear God’s word. It is very simple to get started. Ushers Ushering is another great way to serve God’s Kingdom and meet other members and visitors to Trinity. It is very simple to usher. Ushers help hand out bulletins before the service, they assist with the collection and assist with communion. If you are interested in learning more or would like to volunteer please call the church office with the service you are interested in and we will get you set up with some brief training and you will be all set to go. Screen Operators Did you ever wonder how the screens come alive filled with music, words and pictures?? Would you like to learn how to run the screens?? We would love to have you on board to help out. We are looking for several people at all the services to operate the screens during the services. It is not hard, the training is simple and does not take much time. The more people we have the less work it is on any one person. If this is somewhere that you would like to volunteer or have more questions about before making up your mind please contact Pastor Schauer in the church office. Praise Band Do you love to sing, play an instrument and worship our God? Our first couple of meetings have focused on getting to know each other, identifying our primary objectives, defining the scope of work that needs to be completed, and beginning to set some structure for how our group will work together. There is a lot of work to be completed by next spring, so we have established a biweekly meeting schedule.
