Danos tu gracia. Que seamos humildes y agradecidos. Sunday, Oct. 12th Eng. PREP 9:15-10:30am (LS) VN. Lang. 10:30-12pm (LS) VN. St. Joseph the Worker Group needs your help. On the 1 st Saturday of each month, we gather on the back porch of the rectory around 9:00am. We then disburse around the parish grounds doing work that needs to be done to make St. Helena’s the best place it can be. You don’t need to be a professional in anything…you just need to be able to pitch in and help do the things that need to be done. Sometimes we are painting, sometimes we are cleaning, sometimes we are doing floors. As you can see there is always something that has to be done and we need volunteers to help us get these projects done. Please mark your calendars for the 1st Saturday of every month to come to your home away from home and help us to continue to be a place where people will want to come. We usually work from 9:00am till 3:00pm. You don’t have to stay the whole time. If you can give an hour or two that would be great! But I will tell you this…there will be coffee in the AM and for the people who stay all day, we will feed you lunch. If you have any questions, call the rectory and leave a message for Dave Nguyen. He will get back to you within 24 hours. Throughout human history, God has promised that we would find happiness in the Messiah. The prophets spoke eloquently about this. “God will rejoice over you with gladness,” Zephaniah wrote. “He will renew you in his love” (3:17). What a fantastic promise! What tender, parental love this is! Likewise, in the Gospels we read time and again that knowing Christ leads to happiness, Jesus himself promised it. I am teaching you about self-giving love, he said, so that your own happiness may be complete and full. “I have said these things to you,” he said in John 15: 11, “so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” Where do you find your happiness? Who brings joy to you? Who do you bring joy to? Page 3 048 St. Helena – Rt. P St. Helena Parish is a Tithing Parish since Jan. 19, 2003. God has provided for us in wonderful ways and we are committed to "making a return to the Lord for all His goodness to us." All we are and have is due to God’s goodness. Jesus tells the story of a King who has prepared a wedding banquet for his son, but many of his invited subjects have refused the invitation. So when the invited guests refuse to attend, he has extends the invitation to every person in his Kingdom. But one person comes dressed improperly and is cast out into the darkness where he would wail and grind his teeth. A banquet has been prepared for us. It is the Eucharist. Christ has spread before us His Body and Blood. It is a banquet of Love, Joy, Forgiveness, Mercy and Eternal Life. But few accept the invitation. One is working. Another has a sporting event to attend. Another is too tired. And another is just too busy. So The Lord extends the invitation even further. Everyone is invited. The good and the bad. Saints and sinners. But we must come dressed properly. Not dressed in fine clothes and jewelry. But dressed in thankfulness. That is what the word "Eucharist" means, "to give thanks." The Banquet of the Lord's Body and Blood has been prepared for us. With gifts of Forgiveness, Mercy and Eternal Life offered for every guest. Is it too much to say "Thank You?" How many people come to Church bored, uninterested and ungrateful for the feast they are about to receive in the Eucharist? If you put on a feast that you sweated blood and tears over and people came who appeared bored, uninterested, and ungrateful and did not even say "thank you" would you invite them back? Would you not feel like throwing them out on their ear? Christ did sweat His Blood and Tears over the Banquet He has prepared for us! A banquet of Eternal Life! How foolish we would be to refuse the invitation. And the least we can say is "thank you." And if we refuse the invitation and do not say thank you, we may not get invited back! And then we too will wail and grind our teeth out of sorrow for what we passed up. On Sunday, October 26th, our Alumni Committee will hold their Annual Communion Breakfast. We will begin with Mass in the Lower Church at 9:30 am, followed by the breakfast in the school hall. Tickets to the breakfast are $25.00 per person and all proceeds benefit St. Helena Alumni. If you are interested in attending, contact Sr. Marie Albert at the school. Come out, have a nice breakfast and catch up on things with your fellow alumni and parishioners. I know you will have an enjoyable time. We are in the process of planning for a Health Fair and Flu shots for November 9 th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Flu shots will be given on a first come, first serve basis. We will also have flu shots available for those who have insurance. Please bring insurance card and photo ID. Remember to pray for our parish staff as we pray for you. Thanks for reading…have a great week! Your Brother and Shepherd, Rev. Msgr. Joseph Trinh Page 4 048 St. Helena – Rt. P Pregnant? Need Help?
