FATHER MARTY’S CORNER
As you can see, the work on our
driveway is well underway. I had
hoped the first section of concrete
would be poured by now, but we
discovered some sewer work that
needed to be done. I hope that the
first section of concrete will be
poured in the next couple of days.
Next weekend is Harvest Day. We will welcome the
children’s choir from Children of Peace School at
our 10:30 am Mass. If you did not receive a letter
concerning Harvest Day and explaining ways to
support Children of Peace, there will be tables in
the back of church next weekend.
-Fr. O’Donovan

Taking our Catholic Faith to heart
Remembering is an important aspect of the Christian life. One of the methods for ensuring that the memory of all that God has accomplished for us is the use
of memorization.
The Challenges (4 per grade level each year) are intended to help students memorize
key concepts and prayers appropriate for their grade level.
KUDOS to the students from grades 1 & 2 who mastered their first CHALLENGE of this program year.
Þ FIRST-GRADERS: Say the words & make the gestures for the Sign of the Cross
Þ SECOND-GRADERS: Name the three Persons of the Holy Trinity and make the Sign of the Cross.

Remembering Loved Ones
A Candle Remembrance Service
Sunday, November 2
Fr. Flaherty’s Movie Night
Monday Nights starting September 15.
Guild Room in Rectory basement
6:45 pm
***LIMITED SEATING***
(call Rectory and register to assure you have a seat!)
Our parish has a lovely tradition of honoring our recently
deceased loved ones at a special Mass on All Souls Day,
November 2. This year the liturgy of Remembrance will be
celebrated after the 5 pm Mass on Sunday, November 2. The
names of parishioners who have died in the last 12 months
will be read and for each name a family member is invited to
come forward and place a lighted candle at the altar. If you
have a loved one, not a FHC parishioner, who died in the last
year and you would like to have the name read and you will
be present to bring up a candle in remembrance, please call
the Rectory and request the inclusion of the name.
In this Remembrance Service, our parish comes together to
honor and pray for those who have passed away. It is also a
way to show those who are grieving that our parish community
shares in their loss. We welcome all parishioners to join with
us.
Throughout the month of November we pray for all our
deceased loved ones. There will be Books of Remembrance
on display in Church listing deceased parishioners as well as
relatives and friends that the parish has been asked to pray
for during this past year. Additionally, we offer our families
the opportunity to bring a framed photo of a loved one who
died this year to the Rectory before November 1st. These
photos will be grouped near the altar during the month of
November. Remember to put your name and phone number
on the back of the photo along with the name of your loved
one. The pictures may be picked up from the table before
Thanksgiving or in the Rectory after Thanksgiving.

Our theme for discussion will be CHARACTER. How do
movies portray character in movies? Some aspects: their
physical appearance, how they move and talk, their likes
and dislikes, important decisions and how they make them,
their relationships to other characters. The impact of
events in the movie on them.
MOVIE SCHEDULE
1). TOP HAT – (Requested musical) Fred Astaire and Ginger
Rogers. Not a classic like “Singing in the Rain”, but a pioneer in
Movie musicals. Two great dancers and Irving Berlin score.
2) WAKING DAN DIVINE (requested comedy) Even if seen long
ago, still usually funny and enjoyable.
3) RAILWAY MAN (Suggested by group members) English movie
based on a true World War II experience of suffering, torture and
reconciliation.
4) IDA (suggested by group members) Polish movie of a young
novice nun about to take vows, but is sent by her religious
superior to meet with an aunt who plunges her into the tragic
story of her Jewish identity and her sad family history. She has a
brief sexual affair with a handsome young man and is
confronted with a radical life decision. The critics liked it.
5) CALVARY (suggested by group members) Story of a priest
today in the Ireland where the shock of child abuse by clergy has
had a severe and tragic affect on attitudes of many Irish towards
priests. Another critic favorite.
6) HEAT OF THE NIGHT (suggested by group members) A classic
movie about race. You may have seen it, but it is worth seeing
again today with the Missouri conflict.
7) CASABLANCA (a movie classic worth
seeing again) Why so much admired?
8) THE BOOK THIEF Takes us through
memories of the hard times of World War II
and how they shaped our world, our lives
and values.
9) POSSIBILITY OF A NINTH MOVIE
WRITEN BY A PARISHIONER.
