Bricklayer Apprenticeships
Becoming a Bricklayer makes you a part of the oldest and most
highly respected of the skilled construction trades. Bricklayers
work with a variety of materials - brick, block, stone, pre-cast
masonry panels and marble- using mortar and trowels.
Other tools of the trade are chisels, jointers, mason hammers,
levels and power saws. Welding is also taught to the bricklayer
to expand their construction skills.
Bricklayers work in all types of weather and at various buildings, churches, commercial and industrial buildings, homes and
schools. Several different styles of bricklaying will also be
taught to diversify and beautify your work.
To join our team to "Build the Future!" You must:
Be at least 17 years of age
Have a high school diploma or GED Certificate
Have a valid driver's license
Be physically able to handle the demands of the trade
How do I prepare for the trade? The following will be helpful:
General math courses
Blueprint reading courses
Develop responsible work ethics
What are the program specifics?
Length of program is 4 years
No upper age limit (can be 17 when you start program, with
parent signature)
On the job training and 144 hours apprentice school each year

Carpenter Apprenticeships
Carpenters make up the single largest group of skilled
workers in the county. Everything around you has been
constructed by a skilled Carpenter; from your home, to
your schools, to the fast food restaurant down the street.
Their skill and talent levels as a craftsman are as varied as
the conditions in which they work.
Carpenters use a variety of hand and power tools, such as
hammers, levels, drills, wrenches, digital equipment, lasers
and saws. If you have an interest in building residential,
commercial and public structures "Frame your Future" as a
carpenter.
You must:
Be at least 17 years of age
Possess a high school diploma or GED Certificate
Be physically able to handle the demands of the trade
How do I prepare for the trade?
The following will be helpful:
Acquiring related work experience
General math courses
Problem solving skills
Develop good personal work ethics
Develop communication skills
What are the program specifics?
Length of program is 4 years
Four weeks of related classroom instruction each year
(160 hours)
Starting pay under general contract is 60% of scale
Annual "OJT" requirement is 1200 hours

Workforce Investment Act Information Session:
1st Wednesday of each month. This workshop is held
from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It provides information
regarding WIA services and educational assistance.
Job Readiness Workshop & Creating a Portfolio:
1st Monday of each month. This class is held from 8:00
a.m. to 12:00 noon. It covers Internet job searching,
What employers expect from employees, Making your
resume’ a marketing tool, Successful job interview tips
and information, Creating a portfolio about your work
history, training and achievements. Attendees should
bring a copy of their resume’ or job history information
as a portion of this workshop will be hands-on for the
Creating a Portfolio portion.
Basic Computer Literacy classes:
This class runs 8 weeks and is held on Thursday
mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
HB2 & Ohio Means Jobs Workshop:
This workshop reviews the new Ohio Means Jobs website and covers the new unemployment requirements
from the passing of House Bill 2. Individual assistance
with completing steps on-line on the computer will be
available during this session.
OLE—Ohio Earn to Learn: *NEW*
This workshop reviews the OLE-Ohio Learn to Earn program. It is designed for Employers and Employees.
Please note that all these workshops are held at the Job
Center and are no cost services. Pre-registration is required. This can be done by either calling at 937-4403465 or by stopping by the Job Center at 2040 N. County
