Loud Shirt Day
A reminder all Sunshine Avenue
campus students are invited to
wear their loudest, brightest,
zaniest shirt with their sport uniform
on Friday 17 October. Loud Shirt
Day supports the Hear and Say
Centre, a terrific foundation that has directly benefited
one of our Kindergarten students, Emily Daniel. We will
be collecting voluntary donations both on the day and via
our online fundraising page:

The Healthy Food Expo
By Year 4
This year’s Healthy Food Expo went off with a blast.
The Healthy Food Expo is an annual celebration
organised by Year 4 students to encourage healthy
eating within the school community. The message
that we want to share is that healthy eating should be
enjoyable and fun.
The Expo was held in the undercover area of the
Sunshine Avenue Campus. Each Year 4 student set
up a stall and brought in a healthy home made food
item to sell for Expo dollars.
A great feature of the Expo was the area in the
centre of the stalls. We set up chairs and tables with
tablecloths for people to sit at and relax while they
enjoyed their food. We put beautiful flowers on each
table for decoration.
Some of the healthy food items that students prepared
included delicious smoothies, fruit kebabs, sugar free
lemonade, whole wheat pancakes, sushi and lots
more…
The Healthy Food Expo was a busy day of fabulous,
fresh, fantastic, yummy delicious healthy food. We
were glad so many people attended and grateful
for the support that we got from the teachers and
parents. The smiles on people’s faces made us feel
so happy inside.

Year 5 Camp
Lake Ainsworth
Year 5 Camp was held 8 - 10 September. Miss Hassell, Mrs
Powell and Rev Chad joined us. For camp we went to Lake
Ainsworth in Lennox Head and to get there we had to go on
the Lindisfarne bus for an hour and twenty minutes. We went
to Lake Ainsworth Camp to experience outdoor education
with our peers and also to have some fun.
We arrived at school with all our luggage ready to get on the
bus. We put all our luggage under the bus and made our
way to Lennox Head. When we arrived at Lake Ainsworth we
unloaded our luggage and met at Spot X and talked about
cabins, activities and camp rules. After lunch we went back
to our cabins and got ready for our first activity, which was
rock climbing. For rock climbing we needed to wear a harness
and helmet - it was a lots of fun. We went back to our cabins
and had a shower before dinner. After dinner, it was time for
night games which were really fun, followed by supper and
bedtime.
After a good night’s sleep we were woken up by the speaker
in our rooms at 7:30am. We got up, got dressed, brushed our
teeth and made our beds. We went to the dinner hall and had
breakfast which was toast and cereal. After breakfast we went
back to get ready for our first activity for the day. We met at
Spot X and went off to the lake to build some rafts. All of us
had a chat with Chris about safety and cooperation and then
we did the activity. We got split into teams of boys and girls
and then has a big talk about equipment. Each team received
3 pipes, 2 canoes, 1 box of ropes and paddles. For the girls
it was very hard because we couldn’t decide on what idea we
should use. Eventually, we decided to put two canoes close
together and put the three pipes at the front, middle and back.
We tied them to the canoes and hey presto we were finished.
After building, we started the race which involved paddling
out and around the buoy, landing at the boys base, running
around the shed and headed back the way we came. It turned
out that the boys won the race but the girls won the pack
up. We went back to change into dry clothes and had lunch.
Our second activity for the day was
cookout. We collected wood to make
the fire and toast our damper on. We put
the damper around a stick and slowly cooked
it on the fire. Once we’d had a piece of damper
we toasted marshmallows on the left over coals and
got sprayed by the garden hose. Then we went back
for a nice warm shower, got dressed and had dinner. We
played lots of night games, had supper and went to bed.
On our final morning, we got dressed and took our bags up to
Spot X. We then had breakfast and went BMX bike riding up
to Lennox headland. When we got back from the bike riding
we went to the souvenir shop and bought some souvenirs.
Then we had lunch and waited for the Lindisfarne bus to
arrive. After loading up the bags we were on our way home.
Overall, we had a great camp. Next year it will be in Melbourne
and we can’t wait. We would like to say thank you to Miss
Affleck for organising our camp.

Lake Ainsworth Camp
8/9/14 Monday
Cruising along the highway, for an hour and 20 minute trip to
our fantastic camp Lake Ainsworth. We were all buzzing with
excitement and we couldn’t wait to get there. “Yay we’re here!”
yelled one of the kids down the front of the bus. Suddenly
everyone jumped up out of their seats and began to chit chat
about what their first activity will be.
After sorting out our cabins, we went to have our very first
lunch at camp. For lunch, we had a delicious chicken nugget
and salad wrap. I thought it was really nice. My job was to
wash up all the dirty dishes. It was actually quite enjoyable
because of the tools we used. We used a metal hose to spray
off all left overs and Jessica and I ended up soaking wet due
to the big SPLASH when I dropped the plate in the sink. We
looked like drowned rats.
Our first activity was bike riding and we discussed the road
rules and the importance of being safe while riding. When the
Dolphin’s group (5p) started to ride their bikes, it began to rain
but I still enjoyed it. The track was long and tiring.

9/9/14 Tuesday
Straight after breakfast we went to the
cook out activity. We first had to make
the damper with: self raising, flour, oil,
water, sugar and we had to squeeze it
well. When we got to the place where we
making the fire, we gathered sticks and
finally got a flame to burst into life. We
had to cook our damper it was very nice
because it had maple syrup on it.
When lunch was over we got into our
swimmers and set off to raft building.
We split into groups so we could work
together in teams to build a raft out of 2
canoes, 9 poles, ropes and 8 paddles.
Once we made the raft we got to try it
out. We were really slow. But next came
the serious part. We had to race each
other around the buoy in the water then
back to the shore.
Waiting for our dinner was difficult
because our table got chosen last. The
smell of the delicious dinner was making
our stomachs grumble. After 20 minutes
of endless waiting, table 12 finally got
to get a wonderful crumbed Dory with a
refreshing salad on the side. For dessert
we had a piece of banana cake with a
big dollop of sweet custard. Everything
was truly scrumptious so I went up for
seconds. Finally, we went to bed. This
time because we were so tired, as soon
as our heads it the pillow we were sound
asleep.
10/9/14 Wednesday
“Wake up kids, time to get up!” yelled
the teachers together down the hall. So
we did and we also were all ready for
our fantastic new day. Our last activity
was great because it was our turn to do
rock climbing! First we had to put our
harnesses on so we could get buckled
up to the rope so we could rock climb.
Next we discussed the belay team. The
belay team connects their harnesses to
the rope and every time the rock climber
took a step up they would take a step
back. In basic words the belay
Team’s job was to keep the rock climber
safe. When we finished we were
exhausted. After packing, it was time to
go back to the boring part, the bus ride,
so we cruised back along the highway all
the way to school.
