About OCTEC
OCTEC is a successful community business providing employment, education, training and
advocacy services across regional NSW and in western and south west Sydney.
OCTEC has 37 years’ experience and 28 delivery sites across regional NSW and in western and
south west Sydney. We employ more than 100 staff to deliver our range of services. These include
Employment Services (Disability Employment Services and Q.temp labour hire services), Nationally
Accredited Industry Training, Traineeship Services, Special Industry Services (Aged Care and Acute
Care Training), Occupational Health and Safety Services, Information Technology Services and
Youth Services.

About Huntley Berry Farm
Huntley Berry Farm near Orange is an OCTEC-owned and operated community business and
important tourist destination in Central West NSW. It is also an Australian Disability Enterprise that
provides supported employment for people with disability. The farm offers visitors the
opportunity to ‘pick your own’ berries from a wide range, including strawberries, raspberries,
youngberries and brambleberries. The berries are also used to make gourmet jams, fruit syrups,
vinegars and chutneys that sell through our online shop – www.huntleyberryfarm.com.au – or
direct from the gift shop at the farm, from reception at Old Town Hall and at Orange’s monthly
Farmers Markets.
Huntley Berry Farm can be found on Huntley Road, Huntley, 10 minutes south-east of Orange. Its
close proximity to Orange and the attractive surrounds make the farm a great place to work.
Employees receive nationally-recognised training and perform a diversity of duties, all of which
contribute to high levels of job satisfaction and the development of a range of transferrable skills.
About the Position
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong marketing and people management skills
to support the HBF Manager and build the business activities of the farm. This is a unique
opportunity to combine a business development role with a career in community services working
at an Australian Disability Enterprise. Priority responsibilities include implementing projects and
marketing strategies to ensure the farm’s economic viability and overseeing the workers at the
farm.

Probity Checks
Should you be successful in obtaining employment with OCTEC, you may be required to undertake
a probity check – a Working With Children Check, an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Criminal
Record Check, or both.
The following employment will generally require both checks:
 if your employment is involved in delivering client services under a program funded by the
Commonwealth Department of Social Services, and it is considered to child-related
employment as defined by NSW Government legislation, e.g. positions in Youth Connections
and Disability Employment Services.
The following employment will generally require a Working With Children Check:
 if your employment involves client service delivery in another OCTEC youth services program;
 If your employment is in another OCTEC program and it is considered to child-related
employment as defined by NSW Government legislation.
The following employment will generally require an AFP Criminal Record Check:
 if your employment is involved in delivering services in aged care facilities or under a program
funded by the Commonwealth Departments of Social Services or Health.
If you are employed in Corporate Services, you will generally not be required to undertake a
probity check.
Decisions about whether a position at OCTEC requires a probity check are based on these broad
guidelines. However, decisions are also made on a case by case basis by senior management with
the aim of ensuring compliance with a range of contractual and legislative requirements including
those specified in the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012. Where there is a
discrepancy between OCTEC’s guidelines and the contractual or legislative requirements, the latter
will prevail.

Overview of Responsibilities
The Marketing and Operations Officer Huntley Berry Farm (HBF) supports the Manager HBF with
the management, promotion and development of the farm as a successful community business
and Australian Disability Enterprise. This includes developing and implementing projects and
marketing strategies to ensure the farm’s economic viability, helping identify new directions for
growth of the enterprise, and supervising the day to day activities of Supported Employees.
Statement of Key Duties
Business Development




Developing and implementing of business development projects, e.g. identification of new
product lines or services, and marketing strategies aimed at ensuring the farm’s economic
viability.
Liaising as required with the business community to promote HBF and its produce/activities.
Participating in the preparation and research for funding proposals for new HBF ventures.
Supporting the regular review and ongoing development of the HBF Business Plan.
Work Task Supervision




Participating in the identification of task/jobs to be completed on the HBF.
Supervising Supported Employees whilst completing these tasks/jobs.
Organising employee breaks to ensure timetables are adhered to.
Remaining familiar with and ensuring the observance of worksite requirements, i.e. work
processes, staff skills, WHS procedures, machinery operation.
Quality Assurance and Compliance





Supporting the operation of the farm in accordance with the HBF Operations Manual.
Helping ensure adherence to the National Standards for Disability Services.
Completing tasks/job sheets, progress reports and weekly work reports (FE92) for individual
Supported Employees in a timely fashion.
Helping maintain client files, both electronic and hard files, in a confidential and efficient
manner and in accordance with OCTEC Policies and Procedures.
Completing Incident Reports as required using the appropriate OCTEC form.
Other Activities

Contributing knowledge of and ongoing links to local resources and services.

Displaying a motivated and enthusiastic attitude to working as part of the HBF team.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability in marketing and business development activities for small or medium-sized
enterprises.
2. Understanding of the day to day operational requirements of a horticultural and retail
business.
3. Ability to provide adequate on-site training, supervision, support and guidance to Supported
Employees.
4. Ability to work in a service or small business effectively and to participate in all reporting
requirements determined by the funding body.
5. Proven ability to maintain a safe workplace through the implementation of WHS Policies and
Procedures.
6. Ability to support the development of funding submissions, reports on the farm for the OCTEC
Board, and the maintenance of financial and administrative records.
7. Current Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
8. Knowledge of the Disability Services Act as it relates to the National Standards for Disability
Services.
9. An understanding of QA systems and how they involve audit and certification procedures.
10. Ability to promote awareness in the community of the contribution made by people with
disabilities.
