We, the Church of Our Lady of the Lake, are a Roman Catholic Community, called as disciples and companions of the Risen Jesus Christ, made present through our celebration of the sacraments, our proclamation of the Gospel, our ministries of service and leadership. We are a community who depend completely on God’s grace. We are made equal through Baptism in Christ, and so we commit ourselves to the spirit of collaboration and inclusion. We, as a community of believers, seek to respond to God’s call. Our community is a place, where those who are searching are welcomed, where injustice, in all its expressions, is challenged, where the alienated find a home, and where people are refreshed, reconciled, and transformed as they journey in faith to God! Through the intercession of Mary, the Virgin Mother of Guadalupe, the Patroness of our parish, it is God’s reign that joins us as one in our mission. Weekend of Oct. 4/5 Gift cards $ 11,866 $ 100 #609 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Friends, Peace, blessings and all good to you and your families. God was so good to us this past weekend. We had an awesome Kinder/Oktoberfest events. The weather, attendees, committee people, numerous vendors, etc...all contributed to a wonderful weekend. We are still waiting for all the numbers to come in but preliminary figures tell us that about 1,800 people attended the Oktoberfest. And although it’s a little premature for an accurate report it seems that the numbers look very positive and slightly higher than last year. Thank you so much!!! Since this is a fund/fun raiser and an accurate report of the “fund” element will be forthcoming, there is no doubt the “fun” factor of the Kinder/Oktoberfest was off the charts. Thank you God for the opportunity to provide a forum of good food, fellowship, and parish camaraderie. Wasn’t it great to be together? While we wait for a fuller acknowledgement of all the stewardship that went into this great event, I want to thank and acknowledge some parish stewardship that has come our way. Transitioning into a new parish office and home is no easy task. I already acknowledged and thanked our parish staff for being so kind and helpful in getting me set up and Fr. Mike comfortable in his new home. But I would like to thank some other parishioners who provided tremendous stewardship in regard to my ‘nesting” and setting up my office, personal rooms, etc...One gentleman and a dear old friend from the parish was able to donate to me a television through his business contacts. This enabled to keep my other TV in my other rectory as my donation and one of my parting gifts. Another parishioner set me up with wi-fi, both in my personal rooms and office while trouble shooting any problems and conflicts along this way. This great parish steward maintains the IT needs for the whole parish and school plant and allows us to communicate and handle the business of the parish as effectively as possible. Finally, a second grader in our school proudly presented me with a few dollars she found on the auditorium floor of the school. The found money was the lunch money of one of her classmates allowing him to have a good lunch. “Ask and you shall receive.” Very true words here at OLL. A few weeks ago I asked parishioners to consider assisting our brother, Deacon Andrew, with his homily delivery. To date four individuals surfaced representing a background in speech pathology and accent reduction offering their expertise at no charge to the parish. Andrew now has a tutor assisting him on Saturday afternoons with his proclamation of the gospel and homily delivery. And many of you commented last Sunday that you can hear the improvement already. Join me in thanking God for these parish stewards who give of their time, talent and treasure for the continued upkeep and growth of our parish family. Do you have a gift to share to provide the upkeep and betterment of our parish community? Finally as we journey through October, the months of the holy rosary, I urge you to please take some time at the Page 3 many shrines we have dedicated to the mother of God in our parish plant with your family. The fall weather is so beautiful and our church building dedicated to the mother of God and parish plant is so nicely adorned with images of our Blessed Mother Mary. Our church is open for a good part of the day at the ramp entrance. Stop by, light a candle dedicated to the mother of God, say a prayer. Children love to pray and you’ll be teaching them a spiritual lesson that will last a lifetime. We also have beautiful outdoor shrines dedicated to Mary; Our Lady of Fatima in front of the convent soon to be our parish center and Our Lady of Sorrows as you enter the parish grounds on Sr. Mary Agnes Way. Maybe you can donate some time with your family to plant some flowers there or weed or just stop by and pray together as a family. Better yet, how about doing a whole rosary or just a decade at one of our many Mary shrines as a family? Fraternal regards, Rev. Joseph A. D’Amico No Confessions on Saturday, October 18th at 12:00pm. Monday October 13 Monday October 13 we celebrate Columbus Day. There will be only one Mass at 9:00am. Church office will be closed. Faith Formation and Youth Ministry will meet as scheduled. Special Collection for the Middle East A request has been received from the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops concerning the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity. The Church mourns the terrible suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Iraq, Syria and Gaza who are struggling to survive, protect their children and live with dignity in dire conditions. This weekend baskets will be at the doors of the church for this special collection. These funds will be used by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and other Catholic agencies working in partnership with the local Church to meet the most urgent humanitarian needs facing the people in Iraq, Gaza and Syria and surrounding countries where refugees have fled. These organizations have well-established partnerships with the Catholic Church in the region which allows them to respond quickly and efficiently to victims in some of the hardest to reach areas. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Stewardship Reflections “And my God will supply every need of yours…” Philippians 4:19 God really does provide for those tat are grateful and generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month– be generous with our gifts of time, talent and treasure and see how God provides for your needs. #609 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time OKTOBERFEST! What a great time and a witness to community working together. From the pre-schooler to the grandparents all joining in the fun to make the weekend a real success. Thanks to all who worked over the past months and to all who worked throughout the weekend. Our gratitude to all who attended and to all who supported the tricky tray and raffle. What a witness to our youngsters—living out the message of Jesus! Spiritual Adoption This weekend we begin our Spiritual Adoption. We ask that you make a personal commitment to pray for one pre-born child who is in danger of being aborted. Enrollment cards are in the pews so you may commit to praying that your baby will be carried to term and experience the fullness of life---a life given by our God. Please take a prayer card as you place your signed slip in the basket near the altar. Blessings! Mass with Anointing of the Sick Saturday October 18, 2014 11:00am Time and time again, the Gospels tell us of Christ’s healing power. Jesus’ ability to heal people in mind, body, and spirit was one of the dramatic ways that he manifested his divinity to others. The need for healing comes in many forms. It may be due to a physical ailment or emotional strain. Caregivers themselves, whether physicians, nurses, healthcare providers, or family members, may be in need of the healing presence of Christ, sacramentally administered in the Mass with Anointing. During this celebration of Christ’s healing power, anyone who is weakened by age, illness, or who has a condition that diminishes quality of life, is invited to receive this sacrament of healing through the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oils. Caregivers are also invited to participate. May the power of the Holy Spirit in this sacrament provide comfort, courage, patience, and hope to all those who suffer.
