The above locations are our primary places for worship. Occasionally
Bishop O’Connell is not available, and at those times we use Falls
Church High School as our alternate site. Normally when there is a
change of venue, we will notify the congregation via e-mail along with
an announcement on the website and here, on the back of the Weekly. If you are attending TFCA and do not receive mailings or e-mails from
us, you may not be in the database. You can fill out a Parishioner

Young people in some schools are now being told that they are to
select their preferred sexual identity based on their feelings, regardless of anatomy. You can choose your sexual identity and change it
as often as you want. You can choose your “preferred gender
pronoun”—do you want to be referred to as he, she, his, him, “ze,”
“hir,” or any number of possibilities. Facebook, a large social media
platform, typifies this societal trend by providing a blank box where
users can prescribe the gender pronoun that they would like to
show up on their public profile.

The week before, another major Post article described a young
college freshman who does not want to be described as a girl but
not as a boy either. She doesn’t feel comfortable as a “he” or a
“she” but perhaps as “they.”
Transgender books for children are beginning now to be published.
Whereas we saw the publication of Heather Has Two Mommies a
couple of decades back, now Heather has two genders. Gracefully
Greyson, about a 12 year old boy undergoing sexual transition
comes out next month. Alex As Well, coming out in January, is
about a conflicted male transitioning to female. More is on the
way. These are intended to gain the sympathies of young readers
on behalf of people who believe they are “trapped in alien bodies.”
Every effort will be made to mainstream such publications.

Oct 12:
Do You Want to Get
Well?
The Washington Post last week had a front page article about the
challenges facing transgendered students—they want to be treated
according to the sexual feelings they have, though their bodies
represent an opposite reality. A major advertising campaign with
the headline, “A male wants to shower beside your 14 year old
daughter—are you alright with that?” has garnered much attention.
High school athletics are highly gender specific but boys who
identify with the opposite sex now want to compete on girls’ teams
and vice versa. The huge issue at stake is “Is gender a biological fact
or a social choice.”
I am not making this up—we are facing challenges that no other
cultures, no other century has ever faced, as we encounter the
gender confusion wrought by those who believe “we are what we
feel.”
We should have great sympathy and concern for a young person
who feels uncomfortable with their sexuality. It isn’t unusual for
young teens to experience confusion in this area, and it is a fact that
some babies on rare occasion are born whose sexuality is hard to
discern. However, from the very beginning scripture teaches us that
God created human beings as male or female, and gender is essential to God’s creation order. People have differing degrees of feelings about their own sexuality and about their attraction to the
opposite sex.

RECTOR’S MESSAGE (continued from cover)
However, we are embodied creatures and our bodies tell us who we are, even when
we may be confused. To deny the importance of gender or to embrace a sort of gender
fluidity goes against God’s order. We have the challenge and opportunity, in a world
increasingly confused about these things, to speak a clear word and proclaim a clear
gospel that offers not jut salvation but moral guidance, moral sense as well.

who will pray for you.
Intercessory Prayer: Call our Confidential Prayer line, (571) 282-0220, and
leave your prayer request in the confidential message box or send an e-mail to:
TFCA.intercessors@gmail.com. A team of intercessors will pray daily for 2 weeks
for individual requests and 4 weeks for marriages. For continued prayer, you may
resubmit your request. We welcome updates and praise reports! Be assured all
requests are kept strictly confidential, and no one will contact you concerning
your request. For requests for those in the military and their families, call the
Confidential Prayer line at (571) 282-0221.
Have you received healing through prayer? Whether it was physical, mental,
emotional, spiritual, or relational, others need to hear your testimony! Don't be
like the nine lepers who failed to thank Jesus. The more people who hear of Jesus'
healing power, the more will ask and receive. Send a brief testimony to
lnelson@TFCAnglican.org for posting on Ministry’s web page. (Anonymity will be
preserved, if desired.)
MOMS IN PRAYER: Groups specifically pray for the children and staff of your
child's school. With the school year now started, it’s the perfect time to begin to
purposely pray for our children and their teachers as they go through the year.
To locate a group, contact Cindy Bledsoe, (703) 734-0936 or
cindy.bledsoe@verizon.net.
Will you pray for our worship Services? A major way to spiritually support our
clergy, worship teams, and congregation is by interceding in prayer on-site during
our Sunday Services. Please contact Lesley Hackman at hackmant@starpower.net if
you are willing to be on a prayer team during one of our worship Services on a
rotating basis, starting in Jan 2015. Each Service time will need at least 12 people
who will be assigned in teams of two to pray during one Service, once every 6
weeks, so we’re looking for 36 people total. Prayer guides will be provided. Thank
you for considering this essential ministry upholding our church.

Sermon Notes
PRAYER PAGE
Week of October 12, 2014
Sunday, October 12, 2014
The Rev. Dan Marotta 8 am, Columbia Baptist Chapel
The Rev. Dr. John W. Yates II, 9 and 11 am, Falls Church High School Auditorium
Sermon Series: Questions Jesus Asked
“Do You Want to Get Well?”
Scripture Readings: John 5:1-9; 1 John 3:4-10
A story about weakness and wellness
Observe: a multitude of weak people (vv. 1-4)
“Asthenes” – weak, without strength, helpless, disabled, feeble
The common characteristic is each is powerless to overcome his own
disability
We ourselves might be similarly described, for weakness appears among
us in many forms:
- physically weak
- morally weak
- emotionally weak
- relationally weak
- spiritually weak, etc.
Consider: Jesus’s question, “Do you want to be healthy?” (vv. 5-6)
a.
“Hugiano” – healthy, sound, whole, pure, wholesome, hale, uncorrupted
b. Implies three questions:
- Do you know you are weak?
- Do you want to be healthy?
- Are you willing to ask for help?
Ask: who will help? (vv 7-9)
(Please place this in your Bible for easy reference.)

Dinner Table Discussion
What does it mean to be a healthy person?
Which do you find harder to deal with: physical, moral, emotional, relational, or spiritual weakness? Do you find it easier to trust God for his help
and healing in some of these categories but not others?
