A Note to
Parents for
10/12—
Since the topics the Missionaries want to discuss
are TOP-SECRET, we can only share what happened last Sunday. The Missionaries talked about
Superheroes—specifically, the qualities the superheroes possess. When the qualities and characteristics were all discussed, we realized that these
qualities were nothing but the qualities of Jesus, the
ultimate Superhero! The Missionaries taught a
great lesson filled with music, games, and SUPERHERO cupcakes (thanks, Michelle Schachle).
This week, we are asking the parish to be prayerful as Theresa Sander makes her way home from
the LifeTeen Training Conference in St. Louis.
Come join us!

News Feeds about the Synod on the Family in Rome, which began Oct. 5
(taken from our website—go there yourself, hit “News,” and read the very latest news feeds about our Catholic Church)
Cardinal Donald Wuerl,
Archbishop of Washington, D.C.
“Pastoral solutions to intractable
problems are not going to come instantly,” … “The secular world, the
secular vision doesn’t have a lot of
space for a relationship with God, or
a transcendent reality beyond us …
that world has created an individualism and a self-referential world that
doesn’t leave a lot of space for a
healthy marriage and a family life
that is going to follow on from that.
Cardinal Wuerl also points to the
fact that there are few “supports” in
today’s world for marriage and the
family, for objective right and
wrong. He said the Church needs to
realize that this is the reality that
many Catholics are living in and
have been wounded by: “They have
experienced the failure that the
PARISH
secular vision brings. So we have to
be constantly aware that God’s
mercy is a big part of the revelation
in Jesus Christ...We have to be able
to pastorally say to people that we
know their suffering, the broken condition of a dysfunctional marriage
and family, and we have to be able to
be there, that’s going to be the second challenge.
The evening falls on our assembly. It is the hour in which
one willingly returns home to the
same meal, in the thick of affections, the good that has been done
and received, the encounters
which warm the heart and make it
grow, the good wine which anticipates in the days of man the feast
without end.
The synod, he concludes “is a
process, we are going to try to do
what the Holy Father has asked us to
do, we bring to the Synod our reflections from our own local people. We
will be in the Synod listening to one
another, talking to one another but
also open to the Holy Spirit.”
It is also the most weighty
hour for him who finds himself
face to face with his own loneliness, in the bitter twilight of broken dreams and plans: how many
people trudge through the day in
the blind alley of resignation,
abandonment, even resentment; in
how many homes was the wine of
joyless plenty, therefore, less the
zest—and the wisdom—of life.
For one another we make our
prayer heard. [continued]
Pope Francis’ homily at the prayer
vigil, the night before the Synod
opened
Dear families, good evening!
 We are in need of additional Commentators, Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion at the 8:30 Sunday Mass. See Fr.
Mathew if you are interested in doing any of these things.

Pope Francis’ homily, continued
It is significant how — even in the individualistic culture
which distorts and renders connections fleeting — in each person born of a woman, there remains alive an essential need of
stability, of an open door, of someone with whom to weave and
to share the story of life, a history to which to belong.
The communion of life assumed by spouses, their openness
to the gift of life, the mutual protection, the encounter and the
memory of generations, educational support, the transmission
of the Christian faith to their children . . . With all this, the family continues to be a school without parallel of humanity, an
indispensable contribution to a just and united society.
And the deeper its roots, the more it is possible in life to
leave and to go far, without getting lost or feeling out of place
in foreign lands.
This horizon helps us to grasp the importance of the Synodal assembly, which opens tomorrow.

Your birthday verse, Psalm 139:13-16
“You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my
mother’s womb. I praise you, so wonderfully you made
me; wonderful are your works! My very self you knew;
my bones were not hidden from you, fashioned as in the
depths of the earth. Your eyes foresaw my actions; in
your book all are written down; my days were shaped,
before one came to be.”
