ADVANCES IN ARRHYTHMIA MANAGEMENT
Conference Overview
This educational activity is designed to present state-of-the-art knowledge in
electrophysiology and arrhythmia management. The program will feature the current and
novel modalities of treatment of atrial fibrillation ablation, novel anticoagulants, ventricular
arrhythmias and device management, and left atrial appendage occlusion as an alternative
to anticoagulation for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.
Designed For
This program is designed for electrophysiologists, cardiologists, primary care physicians and
allied health professionals.
Credit Designation
The Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian designates this live educational activity for
a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit can
apply to the CMA Certification of Continuing Medical Education.
Accreditation
The Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is accredited by the Institute for the Medical Quality/
California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Course Objectives
•
Describe the choices in management for atrial fibrillation
•
Describe the foundations and the essential principles of atrial fibrillation ablation
•
Realize the concept of resolution during atrial mapping of atrial tachycardia occurring after atrial
fibrillation ablation, explain why gaps in ablation lines create macroreentrant atrial tachycardia following
atrial fibrillation ablation, and demonstrate how atrial mapping during atrial tachycardia can identify the
optimal ablation site for atrial tachycardia following atrial fibrillation ablation
•
Describe the surgical approach to atrial fibrillation
•
Identify the mechanisms of human atrial fibrillation – are they localized or diffused? Describe how to
map rotors and focal sources in patients, and how to eliminate them. Compare the results of Focal
Impulse and Rotor Modulation (FIRM) compared to alternative approaches to atrial fibrillation ablation
•
Assess the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation
•
Review the Rationale for Anticoagulation in Atrial Fibrillation and list the advantages and limitations of
currently used oral anticoagulants
•
Identify when to use ablation and when to use a device for the treatment VT
•
Describe the current and upcoming SubQ Device clinical trials and identify optimal candidates for CRT
