Piper, Al Sihah Shrine Potentate 2014 pjjpiper1947@gmail.com Hello Nobles and Ladies, It sure has been a hot summer but fall is right around the corner! I love this time of the year. The falling of the leaves, the cool breezes and football season! Professional football can be traced back to the year 1892 when a fella by the name of William “Pudge” Heffelfinger signed a $500 contract to play in a game for the Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. By 1920, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later, the league changed its name to the National Football Association known as the NFL as it is today. What goes great with football? Boiled peanuts! Grab you some on your way to attend one of these great events for October: 1st – Temple dinner and meeting. Dinner 6:00 Meeting 7:00. Ladies welcome. 11th – Annual Masters & Officers Appreciation 6:30 Activity Building 13th – Columbus Day – Temple is closed 15th – Temple Dinner and Stated Meeting with Gun Raffle Kickoff. Dinner 6:00 & Meeting 7:30 18th – Fall Giveaway 11:30 AM at the Activity Building 24th-25th - Al Sihah Shrine Center, Macon Scottish Rite Joint Ceremonial at Scottish Rite 28th-29th - Grand Lodge 28th - Farmers Market Cookout The Las Vegas trip was GREAT! Thanks to all of you that went with us. Not sure about the rest but Lady Pam and I are still on Vegas time. That jet lag sure is rough. Be sure to ask Lady Pam and Lady Sharon about the Zooooomline! Fall Giveaway is right around the corner. Let’s all sell, sell, sell and then come join the fun on the 18th. Lots of good prizes. Our #1 Goal this year is membership. Be sure to bring in a new member on the 24th and 25th at the Ill. Bro. Reuben W. Hattaway Memorial Reunion/Ceremonial. Hope to see you there. Luke 4:8 Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve Nobles, Lady Pam has a game for all to play. It’s “Find the Potentate’s Upside-Down Fez”. Potentate James has lost his Fez. It is hiding somewhere in this issue of the Mystic Messenger. Be the first person to email (first choice) or call (second choice) the Temple Office with the correct location and to claim your prize! LET’S TALK MEMBERSHIP ~ Ill Sir. Harley Phillips, PP At present (8 Sept) there are only 24 members who have not paid their 2014 dues. This is the lowest number in many years that still owe current years dues. Nobles this did not just happen. The Potentate, Recorder, Treasurer, Divan members, Past Potentate George Thompson and others have worked hard making phone calls, writing letters and communicating with Nobles helping and encouraging them to pay their dues. If you are one of the 24 why not help make this a historical year by paying your 2014 dues now and bring the number down to ZERO. Please consider doing so. The Recorder can and will help you establish a payment plan to fit your budget for dues payment. Call him at the Temple office, Please. If you have not previously done so, why not give serious thought about becoming a perpetual shrine member? It will save you time and money in the future, benefit the Temple for the remainder of your life and beyond. By becoming a permanent contributing member ( PCM ) for a onetime payment of $150.00 your annual dues will be reduced by $5.00 per year and the $150.00 will be placed in an endowment fund and the interest will be used to support the SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN for as long as they exist. I enjoy being a Mason, BLUE LODGE, SCOTTISH RITE, YORK RITE AND SHRINE. Through these organizations we have an opportunity to be of service to our fellow man, a service that is only exceeded by service to God. Inform your blue lodge friends of the many benefits of membership in all of the Masonic bodies, encourage them to join. OCTOBER 2014 Al Sihah Shrine Mystic Messenger Chief Rabban John H. Ambrose, Sr. jhambrose@bellsouth.net Well, here we are, October is on us and we wondered what happened to this year as it passes by so quickly! Hoping that when you read this, that our Fall-Give-Away is gaining momentum as our big Fundraiser and that you all have a chance to win, but to get that chance you must buy a ticket! Fall is on us now and that means FOOTBALL! Being a Dog fan, I was upset with their loss to South Carolina, so much for a shot at the National Title. Maybe our Atlanta Falcons can do something this year so we will have a team to cheer to the finish. Also with the onset of fall, it becomes hunting season and great fishing weather also. If you have the opportunity, try and take a youngster and teach them the basics of safe hunting and fishing, getting them involved at an early age will keep them busy and hopefully something they will look forward to every year. Too many of the youngsters I see at the stores or around town, don’t have much to look forward to, because they get messed up with the wrong type of people and end up quitting school, wouldn’t it be nice if they had someone to look up to and be able to learn what it takes to succeed in life, well we can all do our best to be that person. I think of all the great men in the Blue Lodges and have a sense of pride that being a member of them, makes a good man even better! I look at all our Organizations and see the great work we all do to help children in many ways and the lives that we have all touched as they tell you their story while you are out on a Paper Sale! Congratulations to all of us for making these stories happen! I am appealing to all the Nobility and their better halves, if you would like to be part of my team in 2015, (if I am elected!) please call me or Rueshelle or email us at jhambrose@bellsouth.net . We are in the process of getting things going and would love to have anyone interested, to be part of the team! Already one of my team has announced that he will be moving out of state, Proud for you Mitchell Bennett, but will miss you at the ceremonials! I will close with this, please visit a different Blue Lodge one month and see if you can help any of them become a Shriner, there is still time to get them signed up for the Scottish Rite & Shrine ceremonial. This is a great event that gives them the chance to become a member of both or either of the two! Also, still time to buy and sell some more F-G-away tickets, help make someone a winner. Yours in the Faith John H. Ambrose Sr. - Chief Rabban and my sweet wife Rue Rue- THE BOSS Page 4 Assistant Rabban James Roberson jamesc14@windstream.net Well here we are at property tax time; get your crying towel out before opening that tax notice. Enough of the sad stuff. We are nearing the end of the FALL GIVE away, if you haven’t sold your quota you need too. SELL, SELL, SELL. One of the important things is family, take the time to hug you wife and your children and tell them you LOVE them. 9-11 has just passed and I hope all thanked our first responders for their decanted service. This year is nearly over and we as a SHRINE CENTER have accomplished a lot with your help and your ladies help we want to say THANKS for the hard work. Please remember our military, and pray our leaders make the right decisions for our military, and this UNITED STATED. God Bless our USA. Remember our sick in your prayers. GOD BLESS High Priest & Prophet Lucius “Chip” Duncan townplanner@bellsouth.net Well nobles and ladies Another great month has past and my how time flies. It seems like it was only yesterday when we elected our new potentate, Illustrious James Piper, and now we are almost threequarters through this year and what a great year it has been, so far. The Valentine’s dance, Easter egg hunt for the children and the potentate’s ball were all a lot of fun. However, we can all look back and pat ourselves on the back for all of our successes and learn from all our mistakes. Now it’s time to look forward to the last few months of this year and make it even more successful than the past. In the coming months we have the fall giveaway. So don’t forget we still have to get out there and sell those tickets SELL, SELL, SELL. Now we are into our parade season with 10 to 15 parades coming up. We are going to be busy now so let’s shape up our parade units, and get going. This is the time of year we get to stand out in the crowd with our shrine fez on and our funny cars. In order for everyone to see we are still taking care of our children’s hospitals. You do not have to have a vehicle for the parades, you can always catch a ride, or you can walk the sidelines and take up money at most of our parades. So come on out and let’s have some fun doing the business of the OCTOBER 2014 Al Sihah Shrine Mystic Messenger Page 5 Temple. member to be a part of great day. Upcoming combined ceremonial for Shrine and Scottish Rite on October 24 and 25th. Let’s all get as many candidates as we can. The Assistant Rabin and I went to the Lodge meeting in Tennille and talked with several Nobles who had let their Shrine membership drop. We are anticipating that a number of them will come back in the Shrine. We have enjoyed visiting with the different Shrine clubs. We attended Peach State Auto Sales where a DC9 airplane was auctioned and when finalized the Shrine Hospitals will receive some of the proceeds. Let’s remember our men and women in service in our prayers and the children and their families we serve. Treasurer Bobby Simmons, P. P. bnsimmons81@bellsouth.net October will give us an indication of how successful we are for the year 2014. First, the Masonic Dinner on October 11 will give us an opportunity to build relationships with our Masonic Family. Let us encourage our Lodge members and their ladies to attend. Wear a “SMILE” and make them welcome. Second, the Fall Give Away on October 18 will tell us how well we did on our main fundraiser. Let us make sure all the tickets are sold so we can mark our finance part successful. Third, The joint Shrine/ Scottish Rite Ceremony, October 24th and 25th will give us a way to increase our membership. Let us all get a new Recorder R. Keel Broom, P. P. recorderalsihah@bellsouth.net Noble and Ladies, Only three more issues of the Mystic Messenger to be published before the year 2014 ends. Our parade schedule is growing with requests. Parades allow us to show just one of the ways we have fun. By participating we are honored in displaying our American Flag escorted by the Legion of Honor Color Guard, or maneuvering those little funny cars known as the Scat Cats, or operating a Klassic Car (20 years or older), or riding in the truly classy antique vehicles know as the Hillbilly Trucks as a Hillbilly or a Tar Dipper, or walking amongst the crowd as one of Al Sihah’s very own Clowns, or riding with the Divan in “Big Red”. Many cities and spectators tell us that we are the parade and how much they appreciate us for all we do. Well, I must agree. We are good at what we do, so let’s put on our Fez and participate. No Noble will be turned away. Reminder. Dues Notices were mailed out in September. If you haven’t received your Dues Notice, please contact the Temple Office. If you like to set-up a payment plan to pay your Dues just contact the Temple Office. It’s that easy. Remember to sale those remaining Fall Give-A-Way tickets and attend the drawing on October 18th. Next, mark your calendar to attend the Units/Clubs Award Christmas Party and the New Year’s Eve Party. New Year’s Eve tickets go on sale October 01st. Did you notice that the Teddy Bear is wearing an original Al Sihah “Goldwing” Fez. This Fez was donated back to the Temple after the Black Camel had visited a fellow Noble. It was an honor to donate this Fez to Noble Jack for his new riding partner. Nobles, the Black Camel does not give us heads up when he is to call upon us. We all can make plans now with our love ones to start putting our affairs in order. One recommendation - ask your love one to donate your Fez to the Temple if there is no family member in the Shrine. These Fezzes can be refurbished and passed on to a new Noble who at the time can’t afford to purchase a new Fez, or the Fez could be placed on another “Love to the Rescue” Teddy Bear. Help keep our Fezzes within our Ranks. It’s good to see Blue Lodge Masons helping our Veterans. It’s also GREAT to see that about 75% of those working Master Masons are also AL SIHAH SHRINERS. There were a number of Scottish Rite/Shrine Petitions passed out to Master Masons who I expect to see at the Joint Reunion/Ceremonial on 24 & 15 October. Lots of good work and lots of great Fellowship among all who attended. When Ill Sir Billy Ray Phillips, PP can get Lady Sue to wash a vehicle that doesn’t even belong to her it’s a feat. NOW we know who does all the work on those cars and trucks that Billy Ray gets auctioned off at the Peach Auction Sales. PS. I sure can make a big wish. I know we have a few months till we can hope. We did pack up a couple of boxes for Greenville and we made some caps for Cincinnati Hospital children. We like to thank who ever brought up a large bag of pull-tabs for the hospital and soup labels. Our thoughts are now for Christmas and what is our big project for the children? We have been cleaning up the room so we can see what we have. I know we are still looking for someone to help us crochet some toe warmers. They are used when children have surgery on their legs and their toes are sticking out. This keeps them warm. On the 4th Tuesday we go to the Temple to work on items for the hospital, starting at 10:00 A.M. If you want to help you are welcomed; we do have fun doing this besides getting together. Master Masons and their ladies of the Central Georgia area are invited to attend a dinner and program. In addition to a great program and dinner Al Sihah Shrine Center will be purchasing two $500.00 brick pavers at the Masonic Home for Children for the lodge that has the most members in attendance, and for the lodge that has the most officers in attendance. In the event of a tie a drawing will be held to determine the final recipients. The bricks will be purchased in the name of the recipient lodges and presented at the Georgia Grand Lodge Meeting. Nobles, this is a great opportunity for you to showcase our Shrine Center to members and their ladies of your respective lodges. Once you’ve obtained an attendance count, please forward this information to “Jennifer” in the Recorders Office at (478)-785-5900 or alsihah@gmail.com to assist us in determining the amount of food we need to prepare. Thompson, P.P., (478)-968-5875 blulight075@windstream.net Chaplain’s Corner Noble Steve Alligood, Chaplain Ladies and Nobles: We have a great summer at the temple this year. I am so thankful for the number of nobles and their family members who were present for family night. I believe the head count was is the neighborhood of 150 people in attendance, lots of good food and great fellowship. I would like to give a special thank you Thomas Brannen P.M. and Ken Howell W.M. for the wonderful music they blessed us with. Also a special thank you to John Snipes P.M. and his wife Lisa for the great work they do at The Masonic Home of Georgia and the love and care they provide for our children every day. Just another example of the grace of God being shared through others for others. I found this poem in a book of Masonic poems entitled From You to ME by Dewey H Wollstein P.G.M. I would like to share it with all of you. THIS DAY This day is a wonderful day Let me live it at my best By being of service to others By working with hopeful zest This day is a fresh opportunity For a kindly word and deed To think of my many blessings To comfort those in need Let me use the minutes and hours According to Masonry’s plan Applying the 24 inch Gauge In love of God and man. Dewey H Wollstein P.G.M. This poem touched my heart. It reminds me of my duties as your Chaplain. We should all remember that every day we have is a gift from God, not to be wasted away. This is going to be a very busy month, with all we have going on let us remember everyone on our prayer list when on bended knee with our maker. What a month August was, ending with the Klassic Autos Car Show on the 23th of the month. So, I have to go back and catch up. Gale and I went to the Southeastern in Jacksonville, Florida, and we had a very good time. We talked about that last month. The Car Show was HOT, HOT, and HOTTER. In fact, it was so hot that we only had about half the cars we usually can count on. Overall, good music, food, and 51 very nice cars and trucks in the show were enjoyed. We were able to raise over $3,500 for the transportation fund and a $500 Gold Book certificate for one of our sponsors. Which reminds me, A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all the folks that came out to support the Car Show and a VERY, VERY special THANKS to our Sponsors this year. Over 45 sponsors helped make it a Special Show. I also want to recognize Noble Eugene Johnson and Noble Ricky Wasden as our two highest sponsor getters. The MONEY TREE went well and many of the winners donated a portion if not all back to the Unit for the Transportation fund. One plaque was given out to our Car Show Chairman Emeritus, Noble Ricky Wasden. Ricky ran the show for 17 years, and you might as well say 18 because for all the help he gave me this year. Our Potentate, James Piper, gave the award to Ricky and then gave the Potentate’s Award to a VERY NICE Old HOT ROD. Now everyone has to get ready for the FALL GIVEAWAY! I know the DJ and am hoping he performs up to Par for the event. Sounds like it is going to be a great day with LOTS of Giveaways. Remember, you do not have to be present to WIN although the excitement of the drawings is half the fun. So sell - sell - sell those tickets.
