FOREWORD:
INFORMATION - AABENRAA PORT
This revised edition was drawn up by the Port Authority in December 2012.
The information folder is intended to be a collection of detailed information on the Aabenraa
Port with practical overview of quays, facilities, navigation conditions, charges and other matters
of interest to the port’s customers and the shipping and business community in general.
The information folder is also available in a Danish edition.
In addition to this, the Aabenraa Port is always happy to provide further information’s on the
port and what it has to offer.

POSITION AND SAILING ROUTES:
Aabenraa
The Aabenraa Port is situated on latitude 55° 02’ 5 N., longitude 9° 25’ 7 E. inside the northwesterly corner of the deep Aabenraa Fjord.
The port is the deepest commercial port in the western part of the Baltic.

Fairway:
From the Aabenraa Fjord an app. 1000 m long and 11 m deep dredged channel leads to the
port. The width is at no points less than 120 m between the 11 m curves.
Largest ships to enter the port:
a) Dry cargo: Max. length 250 m. No restrictions on beam.
b) Tankers: Max. length 210 m. Max. 50.000 Displacement TS. No restrictions on beam.
Tides:
The tide is insignificant. Strong winds from NE to E may raise the water level app. 1.5 m. Strong
winds from south-westerly directions may lower the water level app. 1 m.

The port is open day and night.
Speed limit:
4 knots.

Buoys:
The fairway is marked on both sides with buoys.
Beacons:

Lights:
South of the port is the Sønderstrand Lighthouse placed. White, red and green lights with occlusions. The white sector leads through the Fjord from the Varnæs Hage. The lighthouse is a
white building made of wood and the frontside is painted orange. See Danish Chart no. 159
(plan).
Leading lights:

Tugs:
One 450 HP tugboat is permanently stationed at the port. Larger tugs are available at 24 hour’s
notice.
Resources:
Fresh water, provisions and all grades of fuel are available.
Facilities:
The Aabenraa Port disposes of the following cranes:
a) 1 harbour mobile crane, hook or grab. Max. lifting capacity 100 tons.
b) 1 harbour mobile crane, hook or grab. Max. lifting capacity 80 tons.
c) 1 loading machine (mobile), hook or grab, Max. lifting capacity 9 tons.

When tankers call at Jetty I and Jetty II, we refer to the manual Port Information and Safety
Regulations, which contains information about tankers calling at Aabenraa Port.
The manual is forwarded by the broker to tankers prior to call at Aabenraa Port.
The manual will also be available at Aabenraa Port’s website www.aabenraaport.dk and can be
requested at the Port Office as well.

RECEPTION FACILITIES:
According to national and international regulations the Aabenraa Port has established facilities
for reception of oily residues, oily ballastwater and garbage etc.
Vessels calling at the port have an obligation to deliver waste before leaving the port, cf. the
Ministry of the Environment’s executive order no.1632.

PORT CHARGES:
Shipping and harbour dues:
The dues are set by the Port Committee and charged in accordance with the “Regulations for
shipping and harbour dues”. The rates are generally adjusted every year on 1st January.
Crane hire, water supply, power supply, temporary wharfage and renting of water areas:
The dues are set by the Port Committee. The rates are generally adjusted every year on 1.st
January.
Conditions for tenancy of hinterland:
The Aabenraa Port has at its disposal approximately 315.000 m² of hinterland, which is leased
to port companies on certain conditions.
The hinterland is divided into 3 charge zones according to distance from quay - see classification plan on page 19.
In accordance with the conditions, the tenant commits himself to a turnover guarantee in form
of shipping and harbour dues via the port (minimum guarantee).
The rent is set by the Port Committee and is generally adjusted each year on 1.st. January.

Power supply to ships is paid according to the current prices inclusive duties.
Connection to reefer plug is paid with 189 DKK. After 3 days 47 DDK is charged a day.

The very flexible crane equipment makes an efficient crane service possible on all quays with
one or more cranes. It will therefore be possible to offer a loading/discharging rate of app. 1300
Ts/hour on the Sønderjyllandskajen (2 cranes in bulk cargo with a specific gravity of app. 1.0
and a continuous working rhythm of app. 60 seconds per grab).
In connection with hire of the cranes the Aabenraa Port only makes the crane and the operator
at the disposal of the customer.
It means that the cranes will be supplied with a hook or a grab while additional stevedore
equipment normally must be supplied by the crane hirer (the stevedore company).
