“Nationally, the rate of drunk-driving fatalities has plummeted
over the past few decades…and for it credit should go partly to
groups that have raised awareness and pressed for tougher laws,
such as…the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.”

Commemorating its 32nd year in 2014, the nonprofit [501(c)(3)] Washington Regional
Alcohol Program (WRAP) is an award-winning public-private partnership working to
prevent drunk driving and underage drinking in the Washington-metropolitan area.
Through public education, innovative health education programs and advocacy, WRAP
is credited with keeping the metro-Washington area’s alcohol-related traffic deaths
consistently lower than the national average.
WRAP, however, may best be known to area residents via the organization’s popular free cab ride service
for would-be drunk drivers, SoberRide® – a public safety initiative which, since 1993 alone, has provided
60,724 no-cost cab rides home to Greater Washington residents who otherwise may have driven drunk.
Don’t forget about WRAP’s SoberRide® program this Halloween. If you’re
celebrating with alcohol between the hours of 10 pm on Friday, October 31, 2014
and 4 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014, call 1 – 800 – 200 – TAXI (or #WRAP
for AT&T wireless users) and be afforded a free and safe taxi ride home. (Must be 21
or older to use this service.)
See www.soberride.com for more details.
