Alberta Dental Society of Anesthesiology
The Alberta Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ABDSA) is a component society of the American Dental
Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA)
Our mission is to provide a forum for education and training to the dentists of Alberta and Western
Canada in the field of procedural sedation. Our scope includes all levels of sedation and all modalities
as described in the Alberta Dental Association and College (ADA+C) regulations. As an advocate, our
society can speak on behalf of our members to regulatory bodies such as the ADA+C and the
government of Alberta so that dentists will continue to provide sedation services for our patients.
To join, log in to www.adsahome.org and click on “members”. Then click on “join” from the pull down
menu. Fill in the online form and when you reach the entry for state dues click on “Alberta” from the
drop down menu and enter your payment.
Membership in the ABDSA is $75.00 and ADSA membership is $195.00.
With membership in the ADSA, you get subscriptions to two excellent sedation resource journals; The
Pulse and Anesthesia Progress. The ADSA offers meetings annually in places like Las Vegas, Chicago
and Palm Springs where education and hands on training will keep you up to date on treating anxious
patients with sedation. These meetings also include programs for support staff.
With membership in the ABDSA you have the opportunity to attend our annual meeting held
alternatively between Calgary and Edmonton. This meeting features an internationally-recognized
keynote speaker. As well there is a general meeting during which we discuss current issues and
concerns in sedation as they affect dentists in Alberta and Western Canada. The 2014 meeting will be
held in Calgary and will feature Dr. M. Rollert, an oral surgeon. The theme of his lecture will be the
sedation team. Our future plans for the ABDSA include an online blog featuring Q&A about sedation
and a newsletter to the members. We hope to be able to offering mentor services, too.
Remember the more members we have, the stronger our voice will be with our regulatory bodies. This
will ensure our ability to continue to safely provide sedation services.
