TIME TO REVIEW
PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS
AND
MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS
Each year Medicare gives us the chance to review our
Prescription Drug Plans and our Medicare Advantage Plans. This
is because once a year the companies that provide these plans
are permitted to adjust their premiums, deductibles, cost of drugs,
co-pays and even the drugs that are covered by their plans.
The “Open Enrollment Period” this year is from October 15th
and ends on December 7th. You can review each of the
available Prescription Drug Plans and /or Medicare Advantage
plans and pick the one that best suits your needs. If you choose
to do nothing, your present plan will continue into 2015 as long as
the plan has not stated that it is ending. You are strongly
encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to review your
plans.
Council on Aging makes available two certified SHIP Counselors
(Sandy Baughman and Anita Dierkes) to assist you in reviewing
changes that the insurance companies have made and help you
make a decision as to whether or not you want to make a change.
You can make an appointment to see a SHIP Counselor
by calling Council on Aging at
260-665-8191

WARNING — IRS PHONE SCAM
Indiana Attorney General is warning Hoosiers to be on the lookout for phone calls from scammers claiming
to be with the IRS. The scammers attempt to get the victim’s personal information, either by claiming they
owe money and need to make immediate payments, or by claiming they are entitled to a tax refund.
The call may seem very legitimate, and the caller ID information may even look like the call is coming from
the IRS. The scammer may even know your Social Security number.
HOWEVER, the IRS will NEVER initiate contact over the phone.
Tax payers will always be contacted first through official correspondence by mail. Also, the IRS will NEVER
ask you for a credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the phone.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS that you think might be a scam, you should
hang up immediately. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to ask about the call you just received.
You can also report the call to the Indiana Attorney General’s Office at 1-888-834-9969 to file a consumer
complaint.

The Council on Aging still in need of Monetary Donations!
We would like to make improvements and
re-decorate a room that is not used to its full
capacity!
The old “Take-a-Break” room (kitchen type area) is
currently used to store supplies for potlucks, parties
and special events as well as a clean-up/work
space.
Once the improvements are made, the room’s main
purpose would be used for a “Game Room” where
our players could socialize, have coffee, snacks,
and/or soft drinks while they play Euchre, Pinochle,
Bingo, and Mahjong as well as hopes for adding
more players and new games!
