Don was born in the City of Los Angeles in the year 1943. He was raised for most of his life in Santa Ana, until the year 1968 where he and his wife Leslie took the opportunity to move to the great City of Tustin. Don remembers his parents’ home when he was growing up. His parents were everything to him and because of their loving nature they were responsible for making Don the man he is today. He is noble, intelligent and one of the most giving human beings the Tustin Area Senior Center has had the pleasure to work with. Don graduated from Santa Ana High School. He attended Santa Ana College for two years and then transferred to California State University Fullerton. Don is a father of two children and two beautiful granddaughters. Don spent many years as the Vice President of Human Resources at Ralphs until the year 2000 when he was able to retire. He now spends most of his time volunteering for the Historical Society, Tustin Parks and Recreation Department, current Chair of the Chief Advisory Board for Tustin Police Department and the CFO of the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. When Don is not volunteering, he and his wife Leslie like to travel the world. Some of their travels have included Europe and Hawaii. His favorite travel experience was when he went to Hawaii to support his son, a senior at Tustin High School, compete in a football game Don will never forget. Apart from traveling, Don is an avid cyclist. You can find him traveling down many roads here in Tustin training for one of his many 100 mile races! The Tustin Area Senior Center is honored to have Don Ropele as a volunteer. We appreciate the time and effort Don puts into our center and always look forward to seeing his smiling face!. Peeks has always been surrounded by creativity, her uncles and cousins are musicians; and two aunts were oil painters. Anna has been painting for over twenty years in watercolor, acrylics and oil. She has studied with Marge Yaros and is a current student at Teri Gammalo’s Art Studio. In the past, Anna has attended painting workshops with Susan Jenkins, Bill Blackman, and Toni Danchik. Anna views painting as a powerfully creative process: “Once you drop the paint on the canvas, the subject takes on a vibrant life of its own”. She enjoys painting landscapes, wildlife, pet portraits, seascapes and flowers. She belongs to the Orange Art Association and was recently awarded an “Honorable Mention” ribbon at the 2013 Orange County Fair in the Oil, Amateur category. Wednesday, October 1-Friday, October 31 Teri is an artist with the ability to translate how she feels about the joy of life. Many say her paintings are alive with color and while the viewer is invited to translate the paintings...her statement is bold and dramatic. Her award winning work has been juried into many local and national exhibits, including NWS and WW. Although predominately self-taught, she has studied with many notable artists. Years of classes and workshops have built a valuable body of knowledge. “Every mentor has taught me something important about art and the many techniques. The most valuable lesson I have learned is to believe in myself...” Currently, Teri is teaching group and private classes. She teaches a positive approach to art and continues her artistic journey...as she feels the journey is the best part of painting, not the destination. Cythia Chilcott Monday, Nov. 3- Wednesday, Nov. 26 Cynthia Chilcott is an artist residing in Tustin, CA. She attended the University of Washington and the School of Visual Arts in Seattle. She has studied privately in California. Cynthia has exhibited in California and the Pacific Northwest, She has held solo shows and displays in civic buildings including The City of Newport Library, numerous offices and Bowers Museum who purchased Cynthia’s painting for the museum Entryway and note cards that were reproduced and sold in the gift shop. Cynthia paints landscapes, seascapes, floral, still life and portraits. She enjoys painting children’s portraits capturing a special action moment. She has produced a series of Christmas and special Holiday Cards. Her new adventure is creating collage using torn paper. Typical collages are of buildings seascapes, people and floral. These will be the feature of her exhibit. Cynthia is a docent at The Irvine Art Museum, Newport Beach where she guides children and adult tours. Monday, December 1- Monday, January 5 South Lobby Artists Geri Lucio September-October Geri Lucio received her B.A. in Art from Cal State Fullerton with an emphasis in drawing and painting, primarily in oil. She also dabbled in ceramics and batik making. After receiving her teaching credential she became a bilingual teacher and administrator in various Calif. Districts for 35 years, a demanding profession that rarely allowed time to pick up a paint brush. Now, having retired and being able to pursue what she loves most, she is painting in pastel, oil and watercolors. An avid admirer of nature, God’s perfect art form, she attempts to make use of her time by furthering her training and continuing to be a lifelong art student. She credits her teachers for contributing to her creative growth. She has taken classes with Erika Brown, Kamillia Hardy, Natasha Shoro, Eileen Cleary and Yelena Hyatt and has participated in workshops in local art galleries. Dr. Phil Martin November –December Phil’s artist career started with painting a few desert landscapes and castles after his first year in college. He has taken lessons at Kirk Miller Art Studio in Old Town Tustin. He has also studied under Dr. Phil Count. Most artwork in both galleries is for sale. All sales are conducted solely between the artist and the buyer. 4 Tustin Area Senior Center The Tustin Area Senior Center is proud to partner with the City of Tustin Parks and Recreation Department and Irvine Valley College to offer a wide variety of personal enrichment courses for older adults to engage in.
