PARISH NEWSLETTER St Teresa's Catholic Church The Presbytery, Brook Rd, Newbury Park, Ilford IG2 7JA Tel No & Fax 020 8590 2414 Reg Charity No 234092 Email: newbpark@aol.com Website: www.stteresasnewbpark.com Parish Priest: Fr Eamonn J Power MA 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A) - 19 October 2014 Dear friends in Christ “Give the Lord Glory and Power”: This weekend we reach the 29th Sunday of Ordinary Time in Year A and in the first reading from the prophet Isaiah, the Lord God says: “Apart from me all is nothing”. This reminds us that the Lord God is indeed everything. He is the all-powerful Lord of heaven and earth who created everything and that we should honour him and love him. The theme is reinforced in the Responsorial Psalm, where we hear: “Give the Lord glory and power”. Indeed, we should always and everywhere acknowledge the Lord God for his power and glorify him in our prayers, especially thanking him for loving us so much as to send his Son Jesus. With Mary we can proclaim: “My soul glorifies the Lord…” A Trip to Rome: I know it’s very soon after my last excursion, but I will be off to Rome this week for a conference that takes place every two years. It is to do with another special ministry the Diocese has entrusted to me and I will be back in the parish on Friday. Please be assured my friends that it is a working trip and not just a jolly! Sadly, people don’t seem to believe me when I tell them this! For the weekday Mass-goers, Fr Dodd will be with you. If anyone wishes to pray the rosary afterwards you will have to organise it yourselves and also the locking up of the church afterwards. Sick Parishioners: Dillys Barrie-Dangerfied - As promised last week, I am updating you all on the situation of our friends Dillys, who has contributed so much to the parish in recent times. The stroke has left her paralysed down the right hand side and with limited power of speech. However, with good treatment and much prayer she might well, over time, make a good recovery. Let us continue to keep the situation in our prayers. Sheila Guise - Sadly, Sheila’s operation was cancelled recently and the last we heard is that she is waiting for another appointment. We also keep Sheila very much in our prayers at this time. Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Another Postponement! Sincere apologies to the regulars, but next month the Novena will once again have to be postponed by exactly one week! On Saturday, 1 November, which incidentally is also my birthday, we are rehearsing the young candidates for their confirmation by Bishop Alan the next day. So the Novena will now take place on Saturday, 8 November. November Dead: The month of November, wherein we remember the dear departed in a special way, is almost upon us. The special envelopes for the deceased have been ordered and we should have them by next weekend. The same procedure as previously applies once again, in that the names of the dear departed are placed in the envelopes and these will be placed on the altar during the month of November. As always, if you wish to make a financial contribution, place it inside the envelope. As previously, all monies received will be sent away to the Sick and Retired Clergy Fund. With regard to the blessing of graves in Barkingside, I am hoping once again to conduct a joint blessing with our friends from next door in Goodmayes, on Sunday, 9 November. If there is any change I will let you know. God Bless you all.
