BlueOrchard Finance (BOF) Investment Team Job Description Title: Vice President (VP) Position: Investment Team Member, Middle East & Africa Description of Function BlueOrchard Finance S.A. (“BOF”) is a leading commercial microfinance investment manager, which has provided funding to microfinance institutions globally since 2001. We achieve this by developing and managing innovative and attractive financial products and services that invest in microfinance institutions, which support millions of promising small enterprises in low-income regions worldwide. At the same time, our investment products generate profitable returns for our investors. The Vice President (VP) or Associate Vice President (AVP) position is a senior position on the Middle East & Africa Regional Office (RO) team and will take a leading role in the development of the portfolio. This position will report to the Regional Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East and work in close relationship with the Chief Credit Officer (CCO). The individual will be expected to manage a pool of RO’s clients, maintain and further develop relationships with the MFIs and manage development of new business opportunities for the RO. S/he is expected to mentor and train other staff members and provide on the job training and technical support to the staff. The individual must have a thorough understanding of the microfinance markets, business environments and broader economic issues in the region served by the RO and beyond. S/he will be responsible for the management of her/his loan portfolio and relationships with the clients and will work closely with all team members. The individual will also contribute to the planning and managing of new business for the RO and BOF. The individual must possess leadership and management skills and must have the ability to quickly work with BOF’s business model and processes and applying BOF’s methodology. In accordance with the BOF’s procedures, s/he will support the RM in the application of BOF’s tools, technology and methodology, including the analysis of microfinance markets and assessment of country risks. The individual will also perform financial analysis of and assess credit risk of the MFIs in his/her client portfolio. In addition, the individual will be expected to participate and contribute to the overall organizational, technical and business process of BOF. S/he will work in the Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya and may be required to undertake frequent international travel, primarily in emerging markets. Tasks I. Development of BOF’s Processes - Work with RM to develop, introduce, institutionalize and upgrade RO’s processes and procedures; - Work with RM in meeting business objectives and targets set for the RO. II. MFI Relationship and Credit Management - Initiate and manage overall communication with MFIs; - Research business risks and opportunities and select and approve MFIs to be presented to Credit Committee (CC) for financing ; - Collecting, analyzing and filing MFIs’ documentation for key clients; - Preparation and presentation of credit proposals to the Credit Committee for review and decision, participate in the Credit Committee meetings; - Prepare loan documentation, negotiate with the clients, close the loan deals, disbursement of loan proceeds and organize required follow-up on all loan transactions; 1 - Work with team in the monitoring performance of MFI clients, including monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual analytical reviews, credit risk assessment of the outstanding loans to the MFIs; - Work with Risk Office in the analysis, placement and removal of loans on/off the watchlist; - Oversee research and monitoring of microfinance markets, collection and reporting of information on MFIs qualified as potential clients, identifying new business opportunities, build loan pipeline and expanding business of RO; - Develop financial strength and credit ratings for MFIs; - Perform all the above tasks in respect to the MFIs directly managed by the individual. - Work with Risk Office and Workout Group in management of problem credits in the region III. Due Diligence (DD) of MFIs - Prepare annual plans for DD trips, oversee planning and preparation of due diligence trips to MFIs; - Manage planning and implementation of DD’s off- and on-site; - Preparation and filing of MFI Due Diligence reports; - Independently or together with other Investment Team members carry out on-site Due Diligence of MFIs and independently perform all the tasks in respect to client pool managed. IV. Country Risk Analysis - Manage and prepare country risk reports and perform quality control of the reports; - Oversee and prepare research on country risks, including, but not limited to macroeconomic, political, legal, regulatory, market and other risks; - Monitor update of information and reporting on regulatory and competitive environment of the microfinance sectors in countries served by the RO; V. Portfolio and Investors Reporting - Work with RM in the portfolio analysis and reporting to supervisors, portfolio managers and investors; - Work with RM on implementation of Fund management tasks or perform such tasks, as required; - Participate, represent BOF and speak at the investors and MFI conferences. VI. Technical Development - Suggest improvements to BOF’s tools, technologies and processes; - Perform technical development tasks for BOF and RO related to improvement of tools , technologies and processes and other development tasks; - Participate in technical task forces and support BOF’s management teams. - Assist New Product Development team in the elaboration and development of new funds, when applicable. Required Skills - Leadership skills and business and personnel management skills and experience; - Strong and proven financial analysis skills; - Thorough understanding of and experience in conducting due-diligence, credit risk assessment and evaluation of lending processes in the financial and microfinance sectors and related skills; - Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to inform and persuade verbally and in writing; - Public speaking experience and skills; - Training and mentoring experience and skills, ability to recognize and promote talented professionals; - Advanced personal organization and planning skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously; - Result-driven, ability to work in a fast paced environment, flexible and “hands-on” approach; 2 - Excellent written and spoken English and French language skills Knowledge & Experience - Degree, preferably advanced, in finance, business administration, economics, or related field; - Relevant leadership and management experience; - At least 10 years of relevant working experience in banking, microfinance or economic development sectors; - Previous experience in financing credit institutions and performing financial analysis and credit risk assessment and financial and social due diligences of MFIs/financial institutions; - Proven interest in impact investing and microfinance in emerging markets.
