Term 4 Campers
The Year 4 campers have had a great start to their camp Jungai in Thornton near Lake Eildon. Smiles
were present and great activities planned for the 3 day camp.
Ride to Work Day Some energetic staff took the opportunity to participate in the 'Ride to Work' initiative
on Wednesday morning and braved an early morning start to meet for breakfast. The BBPS team dined
at the Pantry, which proved to be a most welcome pit stop prior to reaching school. Thank you to Dan
from the Pantry for our lovely breakfast deal and thank you to Susan Taylor for coordinating this event.
World Teachers Day
Heartfelt thanks from all the teachers and staff for the generous, delicious and totally indulgent morning
tea and lunch that was provided by our parent community for World Teachers Day.

How to use the Japanese summary sheet
In response to some requests from students to be able to practice Japanese at home, I have created a
summary sheet for all students. There is a wide variety of students’ ability levels, so the summary
sheet covers all of the main things we have worked on during Japanese this year. This is an optional
extra study activity.
The idea is for each student to:
1. Identify a sentence/s which suits their individual level of challenge.
2. Copy the sentence/s in Japanese, romaji (English letters that show the pronunciation) and the
English translation.
3. Try to write it again without copying, then self-correct any mistakes.
Languages are most efficiently learnt in short frequent bursts of study. Five minutes each evening
having a look through the sheet and writing one sentence would be an excellent goal. Having all the
information means students are able to look ahead to what they might learn next, see how the
patterns work, or simply focus on memorising one example. There are no specific instructions so that
students have flexibly to choose their best way of engaging with the summary sheet.
There will be a “show me what you know” style of Japanese test next week (20th-23rd Oct). This week
students will be practicing for this. I encourage students to be proud of their personal growth rather
than comparing themselves with friends.
THREE invitations for PARENTS
1. You are most welcome to visit the Japanese room during the student led conference evening next
Tuesday 21st October between 4 and 6pm.
2. You are also welcome to join your child’s class the following week, between the 27th and 30th
October.
3. You are also invited to the BBPS Japanese show case page on Edmodo. If you create an Edmodo
account, you will be able to join the page through the code: qa47v6. Please note that this code will
expire after several weeks, so the joining code will be updated in future newsletters. Puppets
Nezumi-san and Wombat-san have made their debut on this page. You will also be able to find
copies of the summary sheet on it.
Kind regards
Susan Taylor (aka “Taylor Sensei”)
