Baptize her afresh in the life-giving Spirit of Jesus. Bestow upon her a great responsiveness to duty, a swifter compassion for suffering, and an utter loyalty to Your will. Help her to proclaim boldly the coming of Your kingdom. Put upon her lips the Gospel of her Lord. Fill her with the prophet’s scorn of tyranny, and with a Christ like tenderness for the heavy-laden and downtrodden. Bid her cease from seeking her own life, lest she lose it. Make her valiant to give up her life to humanity, that, like her crucified Lord, she may mount by the path of the cross to a higher glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *HYMN “The Church’s One Foundation” *THE APOSTLES CREED GOOD NEWS FOR GOD’S CHILDREN ANTHEM SHARING OUR JOYS AND CONCERNS THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER UMH #545 UMN #881 UMH #94 *THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING All things come from You, O God, and with gratitude we return to You what is Yours. You created all that is and with love formed us in Your image. All that we are, and all that we have is a trust from You. Your love has always remained steadfast and You have proven that by sending Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. He gave His all for us. And so, in gratitude for all Your gifts, we offer You ourselves and all that we have, in union with Christ’s offering for us. It is in the Name of Christ we pray. Amen. *HYMN “We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations” 1 Thessalonians 1: 2 – 10 *SCRIPTURE SERMON *HYMN: UMH #569 Hal J. (Isaiah 1:18) 1 Thessalonians 1: 2 – 10 2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, 3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, 4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. 5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. 8 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. 9 For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
