This week Copenhagen is in the global spotlight, when over 1000 international experts and thought leaders are discussing the state of our planet. The magnitude of the challenges we’re facing are overwhelming. But there is one story we need to tell – shout it to the world even: That impressive innovative solutions that tackle most of these challenges already exist. This night is about rallying innovators and people from all walks of life to push for the solutions that can move us forward. Tonight we celebrate the people behind the solutions. Together we need to make the world aware that they are here. That a sustainable future is possible and that you can make it happen. We hope this evening at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen will inspire you. Make you excited about the future we could have if we join forces in building the world of tomorrow. Soon, the team expanded the efforts to address sustainability issues and keep interactions with suppliers transparent throughout the supply chain. @Fairphone Carbon-negative plastic AirCarbon is a carbon-negative plastic made from a process, where carbon from methane and other greenhouse gases in the air are captured and used in the manufacturing. Millions of tons of carbon are emitted into the air every day. AirCarbon uses the pollutants as resources to make products otherwise made from oil. WE CARE SOLAR (USA) 8D TECHNOLOGIES (CANADA) Solar suitcases giving life Bike-sharing made easy The Solar Suitcase provides solar electricity enough for medical lighting, mobile communication and essential medical devices for rural areas and humanitarian settings. This enables safe and timely obstetric care, which ultimately improves maternal and neonatal outcomes. With the app Spotcycle, 8D technologies has made bike-sharing fun, convenient and smartphone-friendly. With a few taps on your smartphone, the app locates nearby bike stations with availability, maps out bike paths and helps you navigate. With Spotcycle, cities don’t have to invent their own bike-sharing technology. @wecaresolar @8DTechnologies @AirCarbon A sustainable future is possible! #100solutions for #COP21 Warm and humid air Salt water solution dries the air Cool and dry air OPOWER (USA) I:CO (SWITZERLAND) SHIDHULAI SWANIRVAR SANGSTHA (BANGLADESH) WECYCLERS (NIGERIA) Pedal-powered recycling The Wecyclers initiative has deployed a fleet of cargo bicycles to pick-up, collect and recycle garbage in lowincome neighborhoods. Families are encouraged to recycle their bottles, cans and plastics through an SMSbased program. For every kilogram of material recycled, the family receives Wecyclers points on their cell phone. @realwecyclers NETAFIM (ISRAEL) Gravity-powered irrigation School boats combatting climate change The innovation increases and secures yields while saving on water and cutting costs. The irrigation system drips precise quantities of water and nutrients right at the root zone of crops. An elevated tank distributes the water using gravity only. This minimizes the need for electricity and investments in infrastructure. By building a fleet of solar-powered school boats, the Bangladeshi initiative Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha has secured year-round education in flood-prone regions of Bangladesh. Solar lighting makes the schedule flexible, which provides for additional educational programs in the evening. @NetafimCorp Recycling everything fashion ADVANTIX (USA) Through an advanced take-back system, I:CO works to keep apparel, footwear and other textiles in a continuous closed-loop cycle. Used shoes and clothing are collected in stores and retail outlets, where customers are financially rewarded for depositing their used items. Once collected, the textiles are sorted according to more than 350 criteria for designation. Advantix’s aircondiction system uses 40% less energy than normal systems. How? By use of saltwater! Where aircondition systems normally chill the air to remove humidity and then reheats it again in a highly energy-intensive process. Advantix air-conditioners lead the air through non-toxic fluid saltwater instead.
