With his father’s influence and training, he became the youngest dancer in the Ballet of Santo Domingo, joining the company at age 16. While the company toured through South America, (Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Cuba), Mr. Arvelo had the opportunity to appear in such productions as Stravinsky’s “Firebird” and Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. At the age of 25 he turned his focus to choreography and became the producer of “Show Time Review”, a weekly performance at the Holiday Inn Resort in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Even though he had moved from performer to choreographer, Mr. Arvelo continued his education in dance, studying the techniques of such greats as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, and Martha Graham. Since he came to Canada, he has furthered that training by studying R.A.D Ballet as well as C.D.T.A Jazz and Ballet, as well as Vaganova Ballet Technique. In May of 1998 he became a certified instructor for the British Association of Teachers of Dance (B.A.T.D). Mr. Arvelo has spent the majority of the last 20 years teaching ballet, jazz and lyrical jazz technique throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Canada, and in March of 2002 he opened the doors of D.A.D.X Dance Academy, where he served as the Artistic Director (2002-2008). With his vast experience in dance training and choreography, he offers an exceptional level of knowledge and expertise to his students. Mr. Arvelo has performed with Ballet Extra of Ottawa in such productions as “The Messiah” and in June of 1998 he produced his first original ballet, “Cry for the Damned”. In May of 2001 he produced a second ballet, “Reflexion”, which was performed at the Brockville Arts Centre. Mr. Arvelo has also judged at numerous regional and national dance competitions and enjoys having the opportunity to provide young, aspiring dancers with constructive comments and advice. 3|Page YOUTH COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM NOVEMBER 21, 2014 INVISTA CENTRE, KINGSTON In 2004 Mr. Arvelo began yet another creative endeavour with the opening of the Brockville Youth Stage and Dance Company (2004-2008).
