Please call the Trust office if a correction needs to be made. We apologize in advance for any oversight on our part. 13th Annual Bocce nel Giardino It’s Bocce, It’s Italian and it was on August 23rd, 2014, at the Greensburg Garden & Civic Center. Close to 200 attendees gathered to enjoy a casual evening of bocce, food and fun for our 13th Annual Bocce nel Giardino fundraising event. The weather cooperated and the sun was shining throughout the evening’s festivities. Italian themed décor with red & white checkered tablecloths, red, green and white accents, flags and beautifully arranged fresh flowers decorated the tables thanks to Joan Stairs and Diane and Sarah Reintgen. The music lent hand to the theme with Sinatra sounds playing in the background. The food, prepared by Rizzo’s Malabar Inn, was superb. The hors d’oeuvres included an incredible display of Italian Antipasto, cheese, bread and fresh fruits. The Italian buffet included chicken piccata, cheese tortellini tossed in alfredo sauce, a carved turkey breast station, eggplant parmigiana, Italian steamed mixed vegetables, red roasted potatoes and a salad bar. The desserts were plentiful and were graciously donated by local restaurants and bakeries in the area including: A&B Mix it Up, Aroma Italiano, Aunt Anna’s Biscotti (Sunset Café), Dainty Pastry, Eat’n’Park, Foodarama, Francesca’s Cakery, Happy Camper Bakery, Herbalicious, Long’s Catering, Market Street Pastries, Spinola’s Bakery and The Cupcake Shoppe. A special thanks to Dick Flock for transporting the surplus food to the Union Mission in Latrobe. The silent auction featured an array of local treasures. Thank you to all of the individuals and businesses contributing items for the auction. You helped to make the evening a great success. Forty-two bocce teams were entered into the competition this year. Due to the incredible turn out, the first round of the competition began at 5:15pm and progressed throughout the evening culminating in the 9:45pm championship match. We congratulate our champions, Casey Krytzer and Rob Stauffer, who defeated Don Morrison and Bill McCabe with a score of 10-5. The crowd gathered courtside to cheer on their teams for the Championship finals. It was a very exciting match! The success of such an event is due to the tremendous efforts of the Trust’s Bocce Volunteer Committee co-chaired by Lyn Emrick and Magdelyn Vale. From invitations to programs to silent auction and décor, the bocce committee members achieved great success. It is with sincere appreciation that we thank Lyn Emrick and Magdelyn Vale, along with other committee members: Keith Biskup, Lana Booher, Erin Burke, Peg Colosimo, Barbara Flock, Gail Follador, Ray Follador, Lisa Frederick, Barb Genter, Kathy Hager, Mary Ann Jaram, Carol Kayser, Lisa Mensch, Roseann Mohler, Clarice Oneal, Dawna Saunders, Missy Smeltz, Joan Stairs, Cindy Strayer and Jan Taylor-Condo. This was the second largest crowd in attendance this year, with guests pouring out onto the sidewalk. Bartenders Lyn Emrick and Connie Garrison geared up and came in 2nd Place for Attendance. The beverages were flowing…the boots were scooting! Just Mr. Jones - August 14: Carl Jones is an acoustic guitar musician based out of Ligonier. His acoustic mix of pop, rock, country and more from the 50s through today entertained us throughout the evening. Cindy Strayer & Missy Smeltz were a dynamic duo behind the bar, adding another layer of fun, laughs and good times! Especially the laughs…if you know Missy! Sugar Mountain - August 21: It’s like Hank Williams and Bob Wills met up with Gregg Allman and Jerry Garcia in New Orleans, during Mardi Gras. Sugar Mountain was back dishing up some Country, Blues & Rock for their guests. Kevin & Jeanie Bock from Integrity Retirement & Estate Advisors were behind the bar and ready to serve! The Loyal Hanna Band – September 4: And the crowd goes ‘COUNTRY’. The Loyal Hanna Band brought their high-energy country sounds with a touch of rock & blues. A packed house enjoyed this warm evening and guest bartenders from Seyler-Berkebile Marriage & Family Therapy kept things cool. Neon Swing X-perience – September 11: And what an X-perience they gave us. If you weren’t up dancing, your toes were definitely tapping. Even our guest bartenders and volunteers from CASA of Westmoreland had a skip in their step. An incredible way to round out our summer series.
