It’s been almost a year since our parish bulletin went to its present format. I
hope you like it as much as I do! It is more attractive, requires less time of the
office staff and saves the parish a considerable amount of money, since J.S.
Paluch, the publishing company, does not charge us for paper.
I would at this time like to thank all those whose ads on the back of the bulletin
make all this possible. I encourage everyone to support our advertisers whenever you can.
INCREASED OFFERTORY UPDATE
After the second week of our Increased Offertory
Campaign, I am happy to report that 169 households
of our parish have committed to increasing the
amount of their giving, some by a significant percentage. I would like to thank all those who have
supported our parish in this way. Individual
acknowledgements will be mailed in November.
Please complete the offertory intention card and return it as soon as possible if you haven’t done so
yet. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call the
parish office at 472-7244.
ELEMENTARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
Please note: there will be no religious education
classes for grades 1 thru 6 on Tuesday, November
11th due to no school for the Veteran’s Day holiday.
CCD MASS OF THANKSGIVING – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH
The Holy Name Religious Education (CCD) students in Grades 1 thru 6 cordially invite you to come
and celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Tuesday,
November 25th at 3:45 in the Church. We will thank
God for all our many blessings, pray for those in
need and kick-off our annual Advent Project - food or
monetary donation for the Food Pantry, which will
continue through December 17th. All are invited to
bring a non-perishable food item to
Mass. NOTE: Grade 6 will dismiss at approximately
4:30PM from the Church after Mass.
ADVENT SPIRITUALITY PROGRAM
Dec. 2 and 9, 6:45PM in the Church Hall. The Incarnation: Keeping God in the Flesh. Two 50-minute
film presentations by Fr. Ron Rolheiser. In the Angelus we say: And the Word became flesh and dwelt
among us. What does this mean today? Each session includes the video, a discussion and an Advent
prayer service. For more information, contact Sr.
Margie/472-8315.
ADVENT WREATH MAKING
Sunday, November 30th from
12:30 to 1:30 PM in the church
hall, everyone is welcome. Bring a water-tight container (a pie pan works nicely);
freshly cut evergreens (if you
are able, if not there are plenty
that are shared); pruners and gardening gloves are
also helpful. Advent prayers, candles, floral oasis,
ribbon, and refreshments will be provided.
ATTENTION: PARENTS OF CHILDREN PRESCHOOL THROUGH FIRST GRADE
Our new Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the
10:00AM Mass is doing very well. The children are
certainly enjoying it! But we have one problem when the children return at the conclusion of their
session, they sometimes can’t remember where their
family is sitting. So parents, they need a little help.
Your child will be re-entering the church during the
taking up of the collection. Could you turn to the back
at that time and give a little wave of the hand so your
child knows where you are? Thank you!
LET’S TALK TURKEY!
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, it is possible to purchase a turkey using a Giant Eagle Advantage Card at a significantly reduced price. I am
calling this to your attention because our parish will
serve a turkey dinner once again at our annual Parish Festival on June 7, 2015. On behalf of our parish festival committee I ask that those who are able
to do so, please donate a
large (18 lbs. +) turkey for
our festival dinner. You
may drop off your turkey in
the church basement between the hours of 9:00AM
-1:00PM, Monday through
Friday, beginning this
week.
TAKE A CHANCE ON A SPYDER!
A SPYDER is a three-wheeled recreational vehicle
that combines the ease of driving a car with the fun
of riding a motorcycle. This year our parish will raffle
a brand new one off as part of our annual Summer
Festival in June. Tickets on the SPYDER are $5.00
apiece and are available in the parish office. A cash
option is available if you win. For more info, or if you
would like to help sell chances, call Fr. Brian at 4727244.
CEMETERY CARE
Notice in the Fall is always given for families to remove all flowers and vases from in-ground burials.
Mausoleum burials have a different set of rules and
regulations that must be respected. The ONLY acceptable decoration is a VASE installed on the crypt
front. For mausoleum burials NO statues, decals,
live flowers, pictures, ornaments, etc. are permitted
to be ON or placed BELOW the crypt.
Cemetery personnel will conduct the normal Fall
cleanup after November 11th.

BISHOP CARROLL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
NEWS
Did you know that students at Bishop Carroll can
earn over 40 college credits while still in high
school? Through various programs with several colleges and universities, students can pay a small fee,
around $50 per credit, for courses that transfer to the
university of their choice. That is over a years worth
of credits for college! What a savings! For more information on these programs, please contact the
school at 472-7500 or jnagy@bishopcarroll.org.
BICENTENNIAL PLANS
For almost a year now, a “Parish Bicentennial Committee” has been meeting to plan events to celebrate that momentous occasion. Bishop Bartchak
has accepted an invitation to come to our parish on
Sunday, September 25, 2016 to celebrate and
preach the 11:30 AM Mass to mark our 200th anniversary. A dinner in our church hall will follow. Well
-known preacher Fr. Jim Sichko will return to Holy
Name to preach a three-day retreat in October of
2015. Other possible events: a Parish Picnic in
Revloc; “Holy Name Night” at an Altoona Curve
game; a Parish “Decades Party” similar to a Calendar Party with historical times being represented rather than months; an Anniversary Historical Book; a
Christmas ornament; programs involving our youth;
pilgrimages to historical sites in our area; and guest
speakers. Stay tuned for updates!

Center at 472-2877 or 472-2878. Must reserve a

WHAT IS THE “ANGEL FUND?”
As you go through your church envelope packets for
you will find an envelope marked “Angel Fund.” Money we receive in this envelope will go into a special
fund to help families in our school who are unable to
pay all of the tuition they owe for their children.
Please help if you can.
Last year the Angel Fund distributed $22,432.25 to
help 42 students who could not pay all or part of their
tuition. On their behalf, I thank you.
SCRIP: THE PAINLESS FUND RAISER!
What do festivals, dinners, games of chance, basket socials, all have in common? They all raise
money through people spending money. “Scrip” is
different because we pay no more for a scrip card
than we would for any other card. E.g., $100 worth
of Scrip buys me $100 worth of food, gasoline, etc.
But through a rebate program, our school makes a
small profit on each card we sell. Hence, I call
Scrip “the Painless Fundraiser.” Scrip cards for
many, many stores and restaurants are available
in the Narthex on Sunday mornings and in the
school office.
