NEWS
Here is a quote that I want to share with you:
``The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service to others`` Mahatma Ghandi.
In a world where more and more is about me, myself and I these words are a rare truth and a
way of life at Applewood Preparatory. I was once more stunned this week by how staff and
parents can put others before themselves. Acts of service are worth more than a thousand
words.

On Tuesday the Grade 7’s were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by the Grade 7
teachers and served to them in the Library. I don’t know of any other school where there is
such a heart of service and a sense of appreciation that accompanies it. Well done and thank
you to all the staff who contributed to this unique tradition.
A most welcoming surprise to the staff on Wednesday morning was a scrumptious breakfast
prepared by Alex Rowe and Alastair Kilpin who, on behalf of the parents, wanted to show their
appreciation for all the hard work done by the staff of Applewood. This simple act of service
means a lot to every staff member. Thank you.
More good news is the appointment of a new staff member. It is a pleasure to announce that
Mrs Samantha Minnie has been appointed as the assistant teacher in the Foundation Phase.
Wednesday evening saw the ‘grant-finally’ of the long awaited drama evening. A full hall of
proud parents got their money`s worth in watching the different plays and enjoying every
moment of it. It was so much fun seeing the learners stepping into character and ‘’bending the
tail’’. I don’t think that I will look at Shakespeare the same ever again. Well done to all the
actors and a big thank you to Mr Grant Griffiths for coaching and guiding our budding actors.
The play was a great success and enjoyed by all.
On the tangent of servant ship, I would like to thank all parents for taking part in the Siphila
Sonke Shoe Box Project. Follow the instructions on the sheet that was handed to your child
(one per family) and bring the completed gift box to school on Monday, 24 November. Thank
you for helping our learners to learn the value of service.
Regards
Mr Hart

WOW QUESTION
What was the most awesome thing you
have ever seen? Why was it so awesome?
Zoey:
When I went for a sleepover in the
holidays for two nights and I went to
the shops. The sleepover was
awesome in my camping bed.
Ashe:
Balls. It was when I was very little.
My first word was balls and I loved
playing with them.
Benjamin:
When we saw a giant monster truck
at the 4x4 convention. The engine
revved loud. It was awesome.
The hypnotist show. Because the
people go crazy. They bit into an
onion, thinking it was a juicy apple.
When he said sleep and touched
them they fall asleep.
A combined harvester on my farm.
It is the biggest thing I have ever
seen and it is awesome.
Fireworks in America because they
are very pretty.
A picture of people bungee jumping.
It is frightening and awesome.

FOUNDATION PHASE SPORTS DAY
A huge thanks to Werner Venter for our amazing athletics track. Our athletes are already enjoying the benefits of being
able to train on an accurately measured and marked field. We appreciate the time and effort he has put in to realise
another goal for Applewood’s sports teams.
