A.Y. JACKSON S.S. WEEKLY REVIEW
Friday, Oct. 31st, 2014
Happy Halloween
On Monday, November 3rd, a District Review team (composed of administrators and
Board officials) will visit A.Y. to observe the school in action and to talk to students,
staff, and parents. We are excited about the opportunity to receive feedback about
what is going well and how we can better serve our students and community.
Student’s Council ran a very successful dance (last Friday) and Halloween Spirit Week.
There was lots of participation amongst the student body and staff and everyone had a
great time.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29th, grade nine students enjoyed an early Halloween treat. They
received a “ spooktacular” J-Crew Social Follow-up that included playing hot potato
with a costume twist, some creative pumpkin painting, guessing the ghastly contents of
some mystery bags, and surviving a visit to a very creepy haunted house. All grade
nine students should be applauded for their positive, and active participation and JCrew leaders should be commended for organizing and facilitating this special event.
Special thanks goes out to two local businesses: Tom Lamb, from the Farm Boy on
Hazeldean Road supplied the pumpkins so that J-Crew members could complete their
masterpieces, and Graham Vesey from the Shoppers Drug Mart on Eagleson Road who
donated Halloween props and decorations.
The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team finished their season with loss to Colonel By in
the semi-finals. They scored a 1-0 victory over Franco Cite in the quarter-finals. The
Boys Varsity Hockey team evened their record at 3-3 with a victory over Woodroffe.
The Girls Varsity Hockey team continues to roll along with victories over Franco Ouest
and Mother Theresa. The Junior Girls Basketball team lost a close game to SRB and to
John McCrae. The Varsity Boys Volleyball team lost a close decision to SRB. Tryouts
