A word from our pastor…..
Dear Parishioners:
A week ago Wednesday, October 29th, in preparation for our outreach in evangelization, our Parish
Pastoral Council discussed the second chapter of Pope Francis' exhortation, "The Joy of the Gospel."
I would like to share some of the things which your fellow parishioners said…….
"The Pope communicates in such a beautiful way it would be good for all of our parishioners to be familiar with what he says."
"This is refreshing. It sheds a positive light on the Catholic faith."
"The Church should provide opportunities for discussion, not just preaching."
"When we evangelize, we need to have concern for all human beings, otherwise we have a global sense of indifference."
"We need to have outreach to the poor and needy, like 'Our Brother's Place.'
"When the front doors of our church building are open, people wander in."
"It is encouraging to hear the Pope speak positively about women and the role of women within the Church. It isn't just an all-boys club."
"The formation of laity for evangelization purposes is a pastoral challenge."
"We are a very diversified parish. We want to maintain that."
"We have to be conscious of opportunities when we have face to face encounters.”
"Can people invite friends who they know are inactive, maybe not to Mass at first, but maybe to a parish activity, like the Concert
of Hope before Christmas."
"Everyone can get posters for that concert and make more posters and display them in their living and work environments."
"What I like about what the Pope says is that everyone has something to bring to the table----new ideas are welcomed."
You can see this was a very rich conversation, and it was the night of the seventh game of the World
Series.
We have several more chapters to read, reflect on, and discuss from the Pope's Exhortation. Then we
hope we will be able to make some suggestions of how we as a parish can respond to the challenges
which Pope Francis presents us. Please continue to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this
process.
Have a great week. Fr. Bill
