Conceived and led by our instructor, Bruce Hamilton, the cycling room will be transformed With special lighting and other accoutrements. Featuring: DJ Bruce Hamilton & a Special Mix of Electronic, House, Trance, Dance, Techno & World Beats Music. It will be an intense hour and forty-five minutes of cycling fun (and, yes, a little work). If you wish to attend and commit yourself to this unique event, Signups will be open November 1st. Small Group Specialized FITNESS NEWS Training Get Ready for Winter Sports!! Many classes at El Gancho fuse core strength, conditioning, balance and power into a total body workout that will transfer into your chosen sport or recreational activity. Sculpting classes focus on full-body movements, for upper and lower body strength and balance to improve overall conditioning for your winter sports. Ball and Pilates will challenge your core stability and are ideal for training for athletic activities this winter. Challenge yourself in the "Boot Camp" class for a power conditioning workout that will make you sweat. El Gancho offers many opportunities for preseason conditioning. SMALL GROUP SPECIALIZED TRAINING Take your workout one step further… This is the ultimate individual workout in a small group class. TENNIS NEWS JAKE MATTHEWS While Jake has been with El Gancho for quite some time (since high school as a matter of fact), we are pleased that he has taken the helm of the El Gancho Tennis Department. Jake will continue to teach lessons & clinics while growing our programs and member services. Congratulations Jake! Fall Clinics The following drop-in tennis clinics will be offered for the upcoming fall/ winter: Mondays will be the Adult Drop In (open to any level, men or women) from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Thursdays will be the Advanced Clinic (minimum rating requirements are either 3.5 male player or 4.0 woman player) from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Fridays will be the Women’s 3.5 Clinic from 1:00-2:30 pm Saturdays will be a Men’s Clinic (for 3.5/4.0 rated players) from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. And Tennis 202 (a beginner clinic) from 10:30-12:00. The cost for any clinic is $20.00 per person, and this will include indoor court fees. There is a maximum limit of 8 players and you must sign up through the front desk (988-5000). Winter Rates Winter tennis rates for indoor courts are in effect and will remain unchanged from last year at $24.00 per hour. Indoor courts may be reserved up to two days prior. Cancellations for any reason the day of a reservation will be charged. AT THE CLUB Artist of the Month JANE E. CHANDLER "I always feel an exciting interaction between my personality and paint with each movement of my hand dancing across the paper. Painting outdoors, I look at the scene or object and try to capture those colors and moments with a minimum of brushstrokes. My art sometimes might be called “expressionist” or “impressionist”. I think the style is emerging that shows my unique use of color and light and shadow. Subjects range from animals, figures, florals and landscapes in watercolor, pastels and oils. Love of nature, the outdoors, and especially the Southwestern part of the United States, and the people who work and play on the land are all indicated throughout my paintings. Light is important in showing space on a twodimensional surface but color is also a tool for expressing my love and appreciation for the earth and its produce. Let the color move you!" Barbara Edelman will bring her beautiful goodies to El Gancho November 17th—19th December 8th—9th Santa Fe continues to be in a water shortage. Help us by considering the following when using the facilities: i Limit the length of your showers. i Don’t allow children to “play” in the showers. i Advise the front desk right away if a shower or toilet is continuously running. AT THE FRONT DESK SAY CHEESE! We will be updating our check-in software to include your picture. This helps us in many ways. Including, getting to know you, ensuring that no one else is using your membership, and also look out for your safety as we are familiar with the faces that are in the club at any given time. Items which have been in lost-n-found for a long time will be removed for donation at that time. If you have lost any items please check with the front desk. DOING AMAZING THINGS! Dora Cde Baca, El Gancho certified cycling instructor, will run in her SECOND New York City Marathon on November 2nd. She completed her first NYC Marathon in 2008. This will be her FIFTH marathon. Additional coverage will be streaming live onESPN3 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. EST and 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. EST, available only Gaby Petrissans, El Gancho certified Pilates instructor, attended a two day training in Anatomy Trains (myofascial meridians) which offered skills in movement patterns, dynamic stability, and coordination specific for yoga, pilates and movement therapists. You can email Karen at klankford@elgancho.com FROM Plan for a Healthy Thanksgiving There is no doubt that Thanksgiving means lots of socializing and eating, but it doesn’t have to sabotage your goals. It just takes a little planning. Here are my favorite tips for facing the Thanksgiving table without any guilt. 1. Schedule a workout date for Friday morning. (Not too early, you’ll be sleeping off the tryptophan) How about 9:35 am Cardio Mix or Cycling. If you really sleep in, you can hit the 12:15 Express Cycle. 2. Eat a small breakfast before you head out to family and friends. You’ll take the edge off your appetite and then can pace yourself. 3. Volunteer to help clean up. According to “Fitness” magazine, a 1/2 hour of hand washing dishes can burn up to 160 calories. (That covers 1/2 of the slice of pumpkin pie you had—maybe wash for a full hour.) 4. Plan an after meal activity (that doesn’t involve napping in front of the TV). Play touch football, jump in the leaves with the kids. 5. Listen to your body! Stop when your full, it’s ok to eat several small plates all day long. There’s no need to stuff yourself on the first pass. Pace yourself, enjoy the bounty all day, and never have that aching over-did-it feeling.
