IN THE OFFICE GOING PAPERLESS At El Gancho we are constantly assessing the latest developments in fitness to be sure that our members have the very best the industry offers. The same goes for all of our administrative procedures. To that end, we are about to undergo a conversion to a new software program to provide an easy and convenient platform for interacting with our members. Members will be able to log-in to a special portal for viewing their bill, making payments and scheduling activities such as tennis courts, lessons, trainings and even spa appointments. As part of that effort, we will be going paperless. Beginning May 1st, 2015 we will no longer be mailing statements. Members will have the following options: 1) Log-in to the NEW member portal to view their charges and make payments. 2) Provide an Email address and receive a statement via email that they can print out and either mail or drop- off with payment. 3) Participate in automatic payment through a checking account or credit card and either receive an e-statement or just log-in to view the account. Forms are available at the Front Desk, to provide an email address. Please contact Donna or Karen in the Front Office with any questions or concerns. We will be mailing detailed instructions for the new portal once we are ready for the system to go “live”. Thank you for helping us be GREEN! USTA—ADULT LEAGUE Now is the time to form our USTA teams for the upcoming 2015 adult league season, which begins at the end of March. Members will be allowed to form their own teams; however, each team must be comprised of a minimum of 12 El Gancho members in order to be accepted. People who wish to captain a team must let Jake know and include the names of the team members. It is important that before a captain asks members to be on their team, that they clearly discuss that players’ role on the team – i.e., will that member play almost every match or will the player be used more as an emergency fill-in? These issues must be understood between the captains and each player on their team before signing up. For those who have not been invited to play on a USTA team, or have not been able to find a team, you may sign up at the front desk available January 12th. If there are enough players in your division signed up, Jake will form a team for you. However, according to IHRSA (The International Health Racquet and Sports Club Association) nearly 40% of people have given up on those resolutions by March. So, here are my favorite tips for sticking to it. i Make sure you REALLY want to make the change. Don’t just do it because someone else says you should or you think someone would like you to be “that”. i Make a realistic plan to reach your goals. Think about completely simple cycles of action that move you one step closer to that goal. When you write down the big goal, think of ONE thing you could do TODAY that would be moving you in the right direction and then DO IT! i Make yourself accountable to someone else. Better yet, find a buddy with similar resolutions & help each other. i Remember: Nobody’s perfect. You’ll have ups and downs but forgive yourself and get back on track. i Measure your progress. Knowing where you started and where you’ve arrived is a great pat on the back. i Reward yourself (without sabotaging yourself). Buy a great new workout outfit or trip to a spa; not an extra helping of chocolate cake. DOING AMAZING THINGS! Kate Latimer attended a Silent Winter Solstice retreat at Prajna Yoga with Tias and Surya Little on December 20th. This full day of practice and instruction focused on deepening the connection to "original light" during the darkest time of the year and included seated meditation practice supported by dynamic and restorative poses to open the hips. Kate is excited to bring her new knowledge of yoga anatomy to the yoga program at El Gancho in the New Year! Come take class with her on Sunday, January 4th at 11am! BE BOLD THIS YEAR! - We want to make sure and acknowledge the amazing things that our members, staff, and instructors are doing. Please let us know how your fitness goals are going and all the exciting things that you are able to accomplish both inside and outside the club. Exposed to Santa Fe artist community at a young age, she now uses art through color and form to express herself. “The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live…” Georgia’s paintings emphasize variations of clear forms and structures. With abstract design’s influenced by her interest in Architecture and Interior Design. They show a part of her that is bright and edgy. She says, “It is an artwork of the heart, not of the mind.” “When I paint I am able to express a part of myself that is very rarely shown. It is as if there is a hidden light burning deep inside me, not able to shine through with life’s trials and tribulations. I feel love, happiness, pain and sorrow everyday, and when I paint I choose bright vibrant colors to express these feelings. Every color I choose resembles an emotion, a feeling, and reflects on a memory. Through my paintings I am able to see, and feel that light burning deep inside me. It is a blessing to be able to create a feeling of happiness, and harmony. I hope others can feel it too.” When I was a child my mom would sing this song to my brother and I, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…” By expressing myself through my paintings. I am letting my light shine. As I thrive through my life, I hope to inspire others with my faith to live a healthier and wealthier lifestyle, by sharing my paintings, nutritional and personal development coaching. Giving thanks to God for the talents that she has acquired. As well as the many blessings in her life, including her wonderful parents, Tom and Mary Baker of Santa Fe, niece Mariah, and brother Nicholas, who has gone to be with our Lord. Georgia G.
