Our discussion began with a lengthy discussion on Nebulas and how stars become stars along with the difference between stars and planets. The class ended with the beginning of Fusion and Hydrostatic Equilibrium. In this months Astronomy class, Cadets will be learning about fusion, why the sun has multiple magnetic fields, solar rotation as well as flares and then lastly the solar wind. Unit 3 is by far the longest of the Units as the Sun is a complex engine and one that includes the fundamentals of physics. In December we begin the second to last unit, which is the study of galaxies before ending with Earth and the future of space travel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check-out the article o n Fox Valley Composite Squadron in the latest edition of "Window to West Chicago" at http://tinyurl.com/WTWC11122014 archive.constantcontact.com archive.constantcontact.com Celebrating a heartfelt season of giving is the theme for this year's Frosty Fest which mirrors the ... -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am pleased to announce that Illinois Wing scored a highly successful on the CI. On Thursday November 6, 2014 at 19:00 Central Standard Time Location: LEWIS UNIVERSITY One University Parkway Harold E. White Aviation Center Romeoville, IL 60446 Description: ACCIDENT PREVENTION MANAGING POWER LOSS ON TAKEOFF November 6, 2014, 7:00 P.M. at Lewis University The Chicago Designated Pilot Examiners Association will have several Pilot Examiners present useful information on how to prevent, or when necessary, manage power loss on takeoff. We will include Preflight Risk Assessment, Aeronautical Decision Making and the flight techniques required in the event of engine failure on takeoff. Recent accidents and personal experiences of the Examiners themselves will be discussed. Audience participation is most valuable on this subject and will be encouraged. We can all learn from the experiences of others. The importance of a detailed preflight briefing on the takeoff and actions to be taken in the event that something goes wrong will be covered. Making the selection of appropriate landing sites and what decision to make at different altitudes can save lives and property. This event will be attended by the students and instructors at the University. All local pilots, students and instructors will be welcome, and should gain useful insights into practicing and teaching effective takeoff planning and emergency landings. We hope you will attend and share this notification with others. For more information contact Leslie Henninger: leslie.henninger@gmail.com.
