Physics
Government Victoria College, Palakkad is one
of the few colleges in Kerala with a tradition that is not
only hoary but also rich and varied. It has established
itself as one of the most accepted centres of higher
learning in the state. Founded as a Rate School way back
in 1866, the institution rose into prominence as a
college of renown in1887. The college has a tradition of
contributing eminent academicians and glorious
alumni who have excelled in diverse fields.
Presently, the college is affiliated to the
University of Calicut and has been recognised by UGC
(Vide. UGC Act 1966), and re-accredited as an ‘A grade’
college by NAAC. Now the college has fifteen
departments, 106 faculty members and 1750 students.
Of the fifteen departments, ten are postgraduate
departments.

About the Department
Department of Physics, Govt. Victoria College,
Palakkad is organizing a national seminar on 'Basics in
Theoretical and Experimental Physics' on 4th of November
2014. This seminar will focus on the familiarization of
current trends in modern materials science research and
fundamental statistical mechanics. The prime objective of
the seminar is to equip the participants with the basic
knowledge in experimental and theoretical techniques to
overcome the challenges in these fields. Experts in this field
will be delivering lectures on these topics. We invite your
esteemed presence and participation in the seminar.
Department of Physics is one of the oldest teaching
departments of Victoria College, Palakkad. The
department offers B.Sc. programme in Physics from
1939 onwards. Post graduate programme in Physics
commenced in 1960. We have been maintaining a
creditable record of under-graduate and post-graduate
teaching in physics. The department is recognized as a
research centre under University of Calicut.
