The Certificate III Guarantee subsidy is available to; any Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no
longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students) and is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or
Australian permanent resident and who does not have and is not enrolled in a certificate III level or higher
qualification.
Course details
This qualification is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels
with propulsion power up to 500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 750 kW, in the
exclusive economic zone (EEZ). ( 200 miles offshore)

Further Study: MED 2 (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 near Coastal), MED 1 (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 near
coastal)
Career prospects:
Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 500 kW or a Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion
power up to 750 kW, in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Students who have completed Elements of Shipboard Safety in the past 5 years will not have to enrol/pay for
these units as part of this enrolment.

Task Books: Before you can be issued with a Workplace Based Task Book you must provide us with a passport
photo. Task books are only required if a student does not have sufficient sea service and wish to gain a reduction
of sea service. Task books are required to be completed before the award is issued so it is beneficial to request
one early.Task book cost is $30.00
