M USIC N OTES
The organ piece before the service today is the Concerto in B minor by
Antonio Vivaldi (1678 -1741) arranged for organ by Johann G ottfried Walther
(1684- 1748). Vivaldi composed sever al hundred concertos for solo violin and
orchestra. His co ncertos wer e admired by many other composers of the day; here,
the composer Walther has arr anged a concerto for organ. It contains the typical
three movements: Allegro -Adagio- Allegro.
During Communion, the St. Dunstan ’s Choir will sing the anthem “Dives and
Lazar us” by Ral ph Vaughan Williams (1872 - 1958). The text of this anthem is
inspired by Jesus ’ parable of the rich man (tr aditionally ref erred to as Dives) and
Lazar us found in Luke 16. A dr amatic text, Vaughan Williams set the text to a
familiar hymn tune with rich ha rmonies for men ’s voices.

We acclaim you holy Lord, glorious in power. Your mighty works reveal your
wisdom and love. You formed us in your own image, giving the whole world into

ADULT FORMATION: LECTIO DIVINA
Father Bates leads parishioners in the meditative and prayerful form of scripture
reflection on Sunday’s gospel traditionally called Lectio Divina at 9:00 a.m. in the
All Saints Chapel.

The next concert of the season is today at 4:00 p.m. St. Dunstan’s Choir, our
ensemble of men, will sing music of Randall Giles, Hans Leo Hassler, Ralph
Vaughan Williams, and a new piece by Christian Carey.
MUSIC AT MIDDAY
The Music at Midday series continues on Tuesday, November 18 at 12:30 p.m. with
an organ recital by guest artist Brian Harlow. These 30-minute recitals will occur
every Tuesday through December.
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
The Young Professionals of Grace Church will meet in the Parish Hall on Friday,
November 21 at 7:00 p.m. Parishioners in their 20s and 30s (and their significant
others) are invited to come for a meal and a discussion. Each attendee is asked to

THE PRESIDING BISHOP TO VISIT GRACE CHURCH IN NEWARK

and Primate of The Episcopal Church The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts
Schori will visit Grace Church in Newark. This is a special honor for our parish, as
she has only visited our diocese a few times in her nine -year term.

The Choristers will rehearse this coming Saturday, November 22 at 9:30 a.m. and
next Sunday, November 23 at 9:45 a.m. They will not rehearse Thanksgiving
weekend. Rehearsals will continue on Saturday, December 6 at 9:30 a.m.
