ability levels and emphasize personal safety, stroke development, water sports and

INDIVIDUALS
The Y believes that members are co-owners of
this organization. As a co-owner, each member
is asked to pay a one-time joining fee as a
mission investment. These dollars are primarily
used for non-expansion capital improvements
like new equipment, building repairs and
preventive maintenance.
The YMCA partners with several insurance
companies to offer a variety of plans that
enable Medicare-eligible participants to
take advantage of our membership features
and facilities. Though circumstances may
vary, Medicare-eligible individuals may be
entitled to either a partial or complimentary
membership. Please direct questions
regarding eligibility to your insurance carrier
or contact Celeste Fryz, Member Services
Specialist at 412-741-9622 ext. 106.
The fee may be paid in full at the time of
joining or divided equally over a three-month
period (participating bank draft members
only). Previous members who re-join within a
three-year time frame will pay a rejoining fee
of $100 for family and single parent family,
and $75 for adult and senior memberships.
Members rejoining beyond the three-year time
frame will be required to pay the full Capital
Development Fee.

World Vision
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian
organization dedicated to working with children,
families, and their communities worldwide to
reach their full potential by tackling the causes of
poverty and injustice. They provide emergency
assistance to children and families affected by
natural disasters and civil conflict, work with
communities to develop long-term solutions to
alleviate poverty, and advocate for justice on
behalf of the poor.
We are collecting disposable diapers of any size.

Sewickley Public Library
The Sewickley Public Library is a staple in the
community and one of our close partners. We
are collecting post it notes, sharpies, 8-pack
crayons, glue sticks, and Keurig K cups.
March
Side By Side
Side by Side at St. Stephen’s church in
Sewickley, provides help and practical support
to single moms. We are collecting new socks,
sizes newborn to 14 years old for girls and boys.
April
YMCA Child Care and Development Center
We are asking for donations of new or gently
used books from infant through elementary
school.
May
Food Banks of Sewickley, Coraopolis, and
Leetsdale
Bring in any nonperishable item to donate to
help the food banks in your community.

Youth Hours, (ages 6-13)
Pool, Large Gym, and Track
• Teens 16 and older may attend fitness classes.
• Teens 14 and older may use the Sewickley Valley YMCA during all regularly scheduled
hours and may participate in aquatic classes, lap swimming, and attend fitness classes
with a parent.
• Youth, ages 10-13 may use the cardiovascular equipment in the Wellness Center or swim
laps in the large pool with a participating parent upon completion of the parent/child cardio orientation program, but are not permitted to use weight training equipment until
age 14.
• Any child age 7 and under must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian at all
times, and are asked to follow youth hours specified above.

PROGRESSIVE PRESCHOOL
SWIM LESSONS
Parents learn to work with their children in
the water. The classes allow the parent to
introduce their children to water and learn to
explore it safely. Classes are 30 minutes, and
children require a swim diaper (sold at the
front desk for $.75, if you forget swim diapers
from home).
During progressive preschool swim lessons,
children will learn to swim, and build
caring relationships while learning water
safety. Each session includes: rescue skills,
stroke development, water safety, personal
development, and games. Classes last 30
minutes.

Children and parents will learn basic aquatic
safety while enjoying fun, age-appropriate
activities.

The aquatics spectrum swim program is for

development, and fun and games. This
program is FREE for those who apply
thanks to the Buddy Matthews Scholarship.

SPLASH WEEK
Ages 3-5 and 6-12 (beginner only)
Held June 1-5, 2015, SPLASH is a week-long
celebration of water safety, teaching kids to
be in the pool, the lake and while boating.
Knowing how to be safe in and around water
helps kids feel proud and confident, and they
will use that knowledge for the rest of their
lives. The purpose of Splash is to encourage
children to learn how to swim while learning
about water safety. This program is reserved
for non-swimmers and is free to the community. Registration is required.

YMCA Summer Camps are the place to be! Kids love swimming and hiking, playing outdoor
games and sports and getting creative with arts
& crafts. YMCA summer camps are the perfect
place for kids to experience field trips and have
a blast!
PARENTS TRUST US
Our camp leadership has a combined 50 years of experience with our Y’s Day Camp.
They hire, train, and support the 60+ college-age counselors that will guide your child through
each fun and exciting day. All staff participates in a 40 hour training that includes: first aid and
safety (including aquatics), child abuse prevention, and every game, song, and activity.

In 2014, our camp had approximately
3,100 registrations over a 10-week period!
Every day, we had over 400 campers swim,
play, run, make friends, sing, play sports, make
crafts, go on field trips, socialize, hike, and be
a kid. We know camp, kids, and how to
make summer fun!
The 10 weeks of camp are broken into

OUR DOOR IS OPEN!
The Y welcomes middle and high school
students from all school districts to swing by
the OASIS Teen Center after school. Teens can
play air hockey, do homework, play indoor and
outdoor games, enjoy a healthy snack and have
access to the pool, gyms and outdoor facilities
with adult supervision. The OASIS Teen Center
will be open Monday-Thursday from 2:30-6 p.m.

WELLNESS CENTER GUIDELINES FOR
YOUTH
Age: 10-13
This program is designed for youth to use
the cardiovascular equipment in the Wellness
Center with a parent. Children participating
in this program may utilize cardio equipment
during all youth hours of operation, or get a
cardio workout doing laps in the large pool,
provided that a parent is in the water at all
times. Use of this benefit requires direct
supervision from the parent at all times in
the center. Schedule your orientation at
the registration desk. This program is for
members only and is free as a benefit of
your membership.

Teens 16 and older may attend fitness
classes.
Teens 14 and older may use the Sewickley
Valley YMCA during all regularly scheduled
hours and may participate in aquatic classes
and lap swimming, and attend fitness

All YMCA memberships include the use of our two racquetball courts for racquetball, handball, and
wallyball. Racquetball courts can be reserved by members up to seven days in advance. Protective eye
wear must be worn and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

WHO WE HELP
Faith in Action helps adults 60 and over who
live in the Quaker Valley, Cornell, Moon and
Ambridge Area school districts. Branches
also located in West Allegheny and
Zelienople.
WHO VOLUNTEERS
Men and women who
• have busy schedules.
• work during the day.
• like to make the most of their time
(volunteer while running errands).
• support other philanthropic projects.
• are retired and want to volunteer.
Faith in Action provides senior citizens with
drivers to help them remain independent and a
vital part of their community by providing rides
to doctor appointments and medical treatments,
the grocery store and access to conduct their
personal affairs.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Annually, Faith in Action provides approximately
1,400 rides to seniors in the Sewickley Valley
through a network of volunteer drivers. Faith in
Action began in 2002 as a community outreach
program at the Sewickley Valley YMCA, and
now is a program jointly supported through a
partnership between the Y and Heritage Valley
Health System.

Last year, 282 people experienced first-hand
the joy and fulfillment of sharing their time and

If you have ever wanted to learn the skills to
save a life, and are 16 years of age prior to
the end ofcourse the YMCA Guard Course is for
you. Participants will learn life guarding skills
to prepare you in finding the perfect summer
job. All participants must pass the lifeguard
prerequisite swim test on the first day of
course. YMCA Life Guarding course will begin
in April and finish in May 2015 to prepare

MAKE UP POLICY
To meet the needs of our members, YMCA
classes are tightly scheduled and often full. We
ask that you choose your programs carefully
as make-up and substitute classes are not
possible.
MEMBER CONDUCT
Caring:
The Y is committed to providing a
safe and welcoming environment for every
member and guest. To promote safety and
comfort for all, we ask individuals to act
appropriately at all times when participating in
Y programs at the Y or at an off-site locations.
Honesty:
To carry out the Y mission, we ask
that members and guests identify themselves
to staff when asked, and be able to produce
a Y membership card or identification upon
request.
Respect:
We expect persons using the Y to
behave in a mature and responsible way, and
to respect the rights and dignity of others. We
do not permit language or any action that may
hurt or frighten another person, including staff.
Responsibility: Members and guests are
encouraged to be responsible for their personal 47
comfort and safety. Please report any offending
condition or behavior to a Y staff person.

PROGRAM REFUND POLICY
Refunds will be issued if notice is given at
least five business days prior to the start
date of the program. All refund requests
must be made directly through the program
director. Refunds will be completed in the
manner by which

the payment
made.

credit voucher can be requested to be used
toward any future program.
The Y reserves the right to cancel a program
that doesn’t reach minimum enrollment.
Programs cancelled by the Y will be refunded
in full by check or as a credit voucher, based
upon the original payment.
PRORATED CLASSES
Class fees will not be prorated for late
registrations. Late registrations are accepted
in most programs (late registration for swim
lessons is not recommended) but will require
payment of the full class fee.
THUNDER/LIGHTNING POLICY
In the event of thunder or lightning,
the pool will close, and the deck will be
cleared. The area will stay closed for 20
minutes after each flash of lightning and/
or clap of thunder. Everyone must exit the
pool/whirlpool. Swim lessons will run as
scheduled with the kids learning skills on the
pool deck.
