Change in Mass Schedule One of the most unsettling and disruptive events in parish life is a change in Mass times. Yet circumstances and resources require that at this time an adjustment be made in our Mass schedule for our two parishes due to the decreased number of priests available for Mass and the decreased attendance of parishioners. To bring us closer to the Diocesan guidelines for scheduling Mass, it is necessary that we reduce the number of Masses by two – one in each parish. In doing so, I have the goal of keeping the broad time frame for the opportunity to participate in Mass as well as more time between the scheduled Masses in our two parishes. After discussion with pastoral councils and prayer and worship committees, effective on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29/30, the schedule will be as follows: St. Madeleine Sophie – Saturday 4:00 pm, Sunday 9:00 am, 7:00 pm and St. Gabriel’s – Sunday 7:30 am and 10:30 am. This schedule provides a mass in each of the time frames Mass is now offered in our parishes. It does not disrupt the Sunday Faith Formation program, allows for scheduling Saturday evening weddings, and a more realistic and manageable transition between churches. THE DECDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA I know that this causes inconvenience and is unsettling for many. I ask your patience and cooperation as we make this adjustment and move forward. We need to move the mass intentions from the Saturday 5:15 pm Mass. Please call the parish office at 355-6600 with your mass choice. The Women’s Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the Salem Cross Inn, and bright nights Christmas light display on Sunday, Dec. 7th. NOVEMBER 9, 2014 Safe Environment Program...We have completed much of the Diocesan required “Safe Environment Program” during Faith Formation classes in the month of October. If your child missed the training, we’ll be offering it again in November at St. Gabriel’s. If your child(ren) will not be participating in the Safe Environment program this year, the Albany Diocese requires us to document this by having the “Opt Out Form” completed and on file in the Faith Formation Office for all registered students. NOVEMBER 9,2014 THE DEDICATION of the LATERAN BASILICA The Church of Jesus Christ is ever ancient, ever new. The angel brings Ezekiel to the heavenly temple. Saint Paul, today, reminds us that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel today, the money changers desecrate the temple and Jesus confronts them. He turns the tables on them, saying he will rebuild the “temple” in three days, alluding to his death and resurrection. The Lateran Basilica is the seat of the bishop of Rome, the pope. The building may have been repaired and its role may have changed since the fourth century, but Jesus Christ remains its cornerstone as he is the cornerstone of the entire Church. Our spiritual practices and rituals likewise may evolve, but as temples of the Holy Spirit, our faith remains in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
