Amen.” | 1 Page “Hold On” BELLS WELCOME & INTRODUCTION OPENING HYMN.............................. “Jerusalem the Golden” – CW 214 Jerusalem the golden, With milk and honey blest— The sight of it refreshes The weary and oppressed. I know not, oh, I know not What joys await us there, What radiancy of glory, What bliss beyond compare. They stand, those halls of Zion, All jubilant with song And bright with many an angel And all the martyr throng. The Prince is ever in them; The daylight is serene; The pastures of the blessed Are ever rich and green. There is the throne of David, And there, from care released, The shout of them that triumph, The song of them that feast; And they who with their leader Have conquered in the fight Forever and forever Are clad in robes of white. | 2 Page Oh, sweet and blessed country, The home of God’s elect! Oh, sweet and blessed country That eager hearts expect! Jesus, in mercy bring us To that dear land of rest; You are with God the Father And Spirit ever blest. You see the habits we try to hide, the hatred we harbor, and the sin to which we are tolerant and blind. You see that we are not the people You created us to be, nor are we the people we like others to think we are. And yet, because of Your mercy, we flee not from, but to You. We pray, forgive our many faults and failures. Set the cross of Your Son Jesus between Your judgment and our sin. Hide us by Your grace, and cover over every one of our sins with your love. Enable us, by your Holy Spirit, to amend our sinful ways and live according to Your will and command. Silence for personal confession and reflection M: C: By God’s grace you are a forgiven people! The highest heaven cannot contain our Lord; His mercy is inexhaustible. Jesus gave Himself for our sins, and through Him, and by His command, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you! And with your spirit! PRAYER OF THE DAY M: C: M: C: Let us pray. Lord God Almighty, we pray for your Holy Spirit. Yet, they keep coming. There’s something about these end of the world stories that fascinates us, frightens us and keeps us coming back for more. The theme that inspires is survival. Against all odds, when all hope is lost humanity grabs hold of courage, defies the enemy and turns the tide. What Hollywood won’t show is the real end of the world story. The end is coming. For some it will be a day of judgment and destruction, grief and pain like nothing even seen or imagined before. The Bible calls this “eternal death.” But for others the end of the world will make the beginning of a new life where pain and trouble will cease forever. When that day comes, on which side of the fence are you going to be on? How will you survive the end of the world? These and many more! There are many paths to God. What kind of God demands worship? There are hypocrites in the church. Religion is a crutch for the weak. Where is God when I’m hurting? I want to feel good about myself. All the church cares about is money. Can a loving God send people to hell? Christianity is so anti-woman. I can’t handle your outdated view of sex. How do I know I’m a Christian? I’ll be rejected by family and friends. Can you tell the story of Peter’s denial? of the Emmaus disciples? of the weeds and the wheat? of Judas’ betrayal? of the woman at the well? of the woman who anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume? Then you’ve already got a vivid way to respond to six of the objections above. Even if you can match them up yourself, we encourage you to join us at 9:15 a.m. in the church proper. We’ll be looking at stories of Jesus and asking ourselves, “Who needs to hear this?” Week 10 – November 16: “Jesus Appears to Thomas: Why can’t I just believe what I see?” Exodus The book of Exodus is the history of God's love for His wayward people. Genesis traced the history of God's promise to send a Savior for His rebellious mankind. Genesis ends with the choosing of a family through which that Savior would be sent to the world. Exodus picks up that history of God's plan to save fallen mankind. It demonstrates the detailed care God gave to that family. He repeatedly forgives, calls the family back into His kingdom, and continues nurtures them after they had rebelled against Him. In the history of the Israelites we can see our own history as God continues to offer His Grace to us even though we often demonstrate our disloyalty to Him. Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 9:00 – through December 16, Mr. Krause In the Community Room | 21 Page The Bible The A&E Network presented a ten episode series called “The Bible.” In that series, the history presented in the Bible has been broken into ten brief segments. There are five segments on the Old Testament and five segments on the New Testament. We will view these segments one at a time and discuss them as they relate to the Bible. We will notice the time span of history has been compressed. They did try to be true to the Word, but at times used some poetic license to move the history along. Sunday mornings 9:15 to 10:15 – Mr. Krause Through December 7 - Old Testament January 11 to February 8 - New Testament In the Community Room Women’s Fall & Winter Bible Classes Emanuel’s new ministry group, Women of HIS Word, would like to invite all women to the following upc oming Bible studies. Easch Bible study will be held on Sundays from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in the Church Basement. “Women’s Spiritual Gifts” – December 7 & 14 This Bible study will examine the role of women in the church and the God-pleasing, Scriptural ways in which women can use their time, talents, treasures, and abilities to serve in the church and further the growth of God’s Kingdom. “A Personal Relationship with Jesus” January 18 & 25 This Bible study will use various examples from Scripture to help women nurture their personal relationships with Jesus and their daily walk with their Lord. | 22 Page Sessions 1 & 2 Theme: God’s Amazing Creation Where?
