olunteers are so important to our Club,
and November is when we say thank you
at our upcoming Volunteers’ Reception on
Saturday, the 15th, from 5 to 7 p.m.
It is by invitation only to all who volunteered their
time and talents some time during the current
calendar year.
There are many invitations being sent; look for
yours, and if somehow we missed anyone, please let
the Secretary know. Volunteers save our Club a
tremendous amount of money that would otherwise
need to be spent. This special reception is one of the
nicest and most elegant events planned for the year.
If you are one of the invited guests, save the date
and plan to attend; there is no charge as it is hosted
by the Board of Directors. The dress is MYC Formal

count, please R.S.V.P.

fall schedule.
The Volunteer’s Reception will be held
on November 15, 5-7:00 PM. This
reception is in appreciation for all the work
and contributions our loyal volunteers have
made throughout the year. The MYC
volunteers consist of active members,
members in waiting and even friends and
relatives of members. The list of
contributions made by volunteers is an
unbelievably long list. Your enthusiastic
and talented efforts have made my job as
Vice Commodore a real pleasure.
Being a MYC volunteer has benefits.
Volunteering allows participants to meet
other members in an environment which is
different from the scheduled dinners and
other club events. We do work, get dirty
and have visible accomplishments
afterwards. Many long lasting friendships
have started at a volunteer project.
THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
See you all at the Mathews Yacht Club
Volunteer’s Reception.
On another note, the roof over the deck
project is on schedule and will be
underway in November. Skylights have
been added in response to request by
several members. The skylights were not
in the budget, so the Commodore
challenged the members to fund this. We
have had excellent response to this fund
drive and have purchased four Velux
skylights. They are two feet wide by four
feet tall and will be installed by the
contractor.
Trapezoid shaped windows will also be
installed in the gable end of the new roof.
The trapezoid windows and skylights will
add substantial natural light to the deck.
We are also planning to replace the door
leading from the porch to the deck. Side
lights will be added to each side of the new
door. Our contractor will rebuild the steps
leading from the deck to the lawn. Our
plan calls for the new steps to have a tread

which is six inches greater than the existing
tread, thereby making the steps safer to
use.
Extra care will be taken to protect any of
our plants which may be impacted by
construction. We will temporally transplant
them in the mulch pile and after
construction is completed move the plants
back. The trees on the lawn around the
deck have been pruned to make room for
the new roof.
The complete roof on the entire building
will also be replaced with a new
dimensional shingle 35 year roof.
Necessary improvements will be made
to our electrical service. The club house
will get a badly needed additional 200 amp
panel box. A new service panel will replace
the existing panel where our service is
metered. The new panel will have
disconnects for each panel box on the MYC
property. This will greatly improve the
safety aspect of our electrical service. We
will also have room for future expansion to
our electrical needs.
